Thank You Danny for saving your MOM's spider plants, you know that it brakes my heart when I see plants not cared properly.....I am experiencing dementia and some times I hurt my plants, like over watering or forgtetting to water them. i really like the shelfs you arrange with those BLOCKS ! Keep loving the plants GOD gave us for our enjoinment .....
I recently got a spider plant from my bf's mom & it was thriving indoors! But I brought it outside & it was all good until the weather became colder. Now I brought it inside & it started wilting more, but the stems are still green so there's still hope. Thank you so much for journey, I learned a lot & am determined to save my lil guy!
There are three main ways to propagate spider plant babies: by cutting them off and planting them alone in soil; by planting them in soil while they are still attached to the mother plant, severing them off of the mother plant later; and by rooting them in water.
Thank you Ange! I will definitely make a video about how I created the pot pond. Its pretty simple though. I just went to the hardware store, found a big pot, water proofed it using silicon and aquarium safe glue. I then lined it with pebbles and aquatic lillies. I usually have fantails in the pond as they are quite cold tolerant. They love it, especially in summer.
You are a savior!!!!! My spider is kinda not doing well I brought it in over the winter but its spring now I didnt repot just potted up last spring moved her outside and I see a difference in a weeks time spring is nice here in Texas USA and I so hope she makes it...would love to see another update on your spider....happy growing everyone💞
@@gloriayoung6219 Yes plenty of rain water is actually better than tap water! Only thing I'll say is just make sure its not in direct sunlight as the leaves will turn brown really quickly. They are super sensitive :) I love hearing about your progress though!
regular potting mix is ok. The trick is plenty of water and filtered light. Theyll burn in direct sunlight. I have spider plants even growing out of my fish tank. They loooooove plenty of water
Killed a few of those and your video just convinced me to get another one. I was gifted last year several spider plant babies but sadly they did not do well in the area I placed them in. Now I know, so probably getting them again but after summer. It's so hot here in my place, Manila. Thanks for the tips.🪴
You are most welcome! Yes they like shady spaces and require lots of watering. I noticed that when I put them at the bottom of the shelf, their leaves widened! Never give up! 🌿☺️🌱
Hi Danny I literally just today unpotted spider babies I had potted up in September. It really didn't grow much over the Winter so I unpotted it and put it in water. Immediately it looked better. So fingers crossed!
@@botanidanny Me too! It seemed to perk them up. Im wondering if the soil I used was too dense so when I do repot I will add more perlite and make it airier. Great vieo! They are such a popular plant but I think many people put them in too high light and they suffer for it.
@@mollys1584 I am so glad that they are perking up! I honestly didn't realise just how much water they actually like. Its a lot! I think repotting is a good idea especially if its not doing well in the current soil. I've made so many mistakes with Spider plants. Initially I thought they'd make great bathroom plants but it turns out they really didn't like my bathroom. As soon as I changed its position and put it on my nursery shelf, they honestly started to thrive. I agree. They are super sensitive to too much sunlight.
@@botanidanny looking forward to seeing more of what you get up too. (It's funny coz I'm rooting up some baby spiders in water at the moment, and slowly getting them potted up and ALL the old leaves are dying off on them too after they're in soil.)
@@southofthesticks Oh thats so cool! I hope your new spiderettes do well! Id love to hear how they are going 😊 I havent tried propagating my spiderettes yet cause i feel quite inexperienced, but i have plucked a few for a terrarium or two
You can put them in a hanging basket or pot. Theyre pretty good at filtering indoor air. It probably looks better in a hanging basket so that the spiderettes hang down. When mine settle in more, Ill probably transfer them over to a hanging pot, so yes! Also I have propagated a few baby spiderettes into my terrariums which they are loving, stay tuned for a future video ☺️
I would have placed those attached Plantlets on a separate moistened soil in a pot. This allows those Plantlets to also pull in moisture without stressing the parent plant.
I will definitely do that. ☺️ I wanted to wait til the plant was a little greener before propagating. I think the spider plant looked like it was in shock
Hi I have 1 sick plant that I got as gift ofcourse it was beautiful then.I water it but alas not doing well.I live where very hot but also very windy outside so I have it in side. Please help .How often does it need water and how much light . Thank you from South Africa
My spider plant has sooooo many babies i dont need to plant up as ive already got too many and given away to friends and neighbours. I think the babies look nice but have never kept them on the mother plant before. But this time id like to leave the babies on the mother plant but dont know if this is normal to do so. What would you advise
Gday! You can leave them connected to the mother plant. They’ll be fine. However, because they are still connected, the mother plant may need extra water to feed all of the extra baby spiderettes. It sounds like your spider plant is very healthy! ❤️🌿☺️
@@elizabethmiller7357 the brown tips come from the chlorine in the tap water. The plant tries to expel the chlorine via its tips. You can use tap water but let it sit for a day or two before using
You could take it back. Depends how healthy or unhealthy it is. Spider plants are suuuuper hardy. They look like they wont make it, but given the right conditions they will survive. Id put it in a shady area and water it lots on a daily basis. If it has spiderlings, Id propagate them into new pots too.
I accidentally over watered my spider plants. (Poor drainage in planter) I backed off + they seem better. I'm about to replant them into pots with better drainage. Do they need to stay a bit moist, or sl. dry top of soil before watering?
They actually like lots of water. But having at least one drainage hole is good. I literally showered the two spider plants in the video with water every day and they seemed to love it. They are quite sensitive to sunlight. Lots of filtered light is best
I have holes at the bottom of the two pots in the video. They do like lots of water. Some people even propagate the spiderettes in little glass jars of water. So its probably ok to leave the base on. I personally prefer the water to be able to drain out though
I actually water them every second day. They love that shelf space. That lush one at the beginning used to be in my bathroom as was looking so brown, as soon as I took it outside and put it on my nursery shelf and watered it every second day it started flourishing!
How did TH-cam tell you my spider plant was dying and I was about to THROW IT OUT!!!
No dont throw it out. As long as there are green leaves they can bounce back and survive! 😊🌿
