Sikhism is not really a distinct religion from Hinduism.
The entire Granth is basically a compilation of devotional poems from the Northern Indian Vaishnavite saints.
Instead of using imagery, Sikhs use singing, but essentially, Sikhs are the same as Vaishnavites.

guru nanak ji was not the 'founder' of sikhi it was guru gobind singh ji. he only taught his teachings as a way of life and not religion
Sikh means student. As you said our teacher is our Guru, Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. So a Sikh is the one who follows what our teacher teaches us. First thing is to take Amrit. So the one doesn't take Amrit, is NOT a SIKH. Doesn't matter if the person is BORN in "SIKH" family where the ancestors or parents are/were Amritdhari (The one who takes Amrit).🙏🏼 Please spread correct knowledge ahead.

@@KHABIB-TIME When we chant the name of God, I.e., Waheguru, our behavior changes. We become just like Waheguru. That's what our Gurus was. They were/are just like Waheguru.
Not just them, the Sikhs in their time, or in present time, whoever meditates more and more, becomes like Waheguru. Not that he/she gets powers to run this world, no. It's the behavior, the personality. And Gurbani is what that teaches us how to live our life so that we can meet God and we can only meet Him once we are like Him. Just like Him. Like water to water.

And when it comes to worship, Sikhs are only supposed to worship Guru Granth Sahib Ji..although we shall give equal respect to all 10 Guru's and Guru Granth Sahib Ji..worshiping in Sikhi means to meditate on the Name of Waheguru and living our life the way Guru Granth Sahjb Ji is teaching us.

But guru is where now ?
Only an Amritdhaari is a Sikh. You can only be a Sikh if you're Amritdhaari. You are not a Sikh if you're not Amritdhaari. Sikhism is a complete religion and being Amritdhaari is part of Sikhism. Sikhism does not give a choice to be Amritdhaari or non-Amritdhaari. Therefore someone who's not Amritdhaari cannot be a Sikh and Maharaj will not consider them as a Sikh. You can still believe in Sikhism but you are not a Sikh if you have not bowed down to Maharaj Ji and given your whole mind and body to them (taking Amrit).
According to Article I of Chapter 1 of the Sikh Rehat Maryada ('code of conduct'), the definition of Sikh is: Any human being who faithfully believes in:
- One Immortal Being
- Ten Gurus, from Guru Nanak Sahib to Guru Gobind Singh Sahib
- The Guru Granth Sahib
- The utterances and teachings of the ten Gurus and
- The baptism bequeathed by the tenth Guru (Amrit)

Yea, its the only indic Religion which in monotheistic. And sikhism in it's initial stage has followers from Both Hindu and Muslim community. So it does take certain influence from Islam like monotheism and restriction of idol worship and takes other inspiration from Hinduism like karma and reincarnation

There are many names or qualities of God. We respect you if you call the Divine Source as God, Yahweh, Illah, Allah, the Tao, Buddha-nature, or any other name of God. It is not important the name, but your connection to the One.
We respect you as a human being and for having the light of God within you, even if you do not believe.
Hi Barbara. Well we have many names of God and for us each religion has different names and ways of calling god but it still remains the same one. In Sikhism we learn that we all have the same god even if we have different paths(religions) for reaching it. The important thing is to reach and experience the devine. The discription of God in our scriptures is that god is genderless, formless, universal within and beyond reality, within and around us.

A sikh is someone who follows the teachings of guru nanak. A man who preached a message the same as an atheist with moral authority. I believe in Jesus Christ, Someone Who went far beyond human standards. So much so, that people leave Christianity because its a fire which gives off lot of heat. The heat is hard to bear but if we bear it, we will become immortal and totally please God.

@@kevinodoyle7429 other than the 5k's there are not that many "rules" to being a Sikh, arranged marriage is not very common in fact I know no person who has had an arranged marriage and is Sikh but if you want your kid to have one its not going to be denied. The being we pray to is Waheguru, who is not really a person, its hard to explain but he is ( I'm using he but waheguru is genderless ) an all knowing deity and you form a relationship with him and learn his teachings thru the Guru Granth Sahib by praying to him and going to Gurdwara ( like church or mosque )
