In Part 1 of the Big Rebo series Rebo gives his introduction beginning in Louisiana before moving to Park Village in Compton in 1966. Rebo is a legendary Compton Crip mentioned in Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member by Sanyika Shakur.
Big Rebo died after a long battle with stage 4 cancer on December 9th 2020.

Got arrested in 1991 went to los angeles county jail sent to 9500 housing unit.Walk in interred the bunk area,Big Rebo , Steel Bill, were running the crip car.They had all bunks lined up in a role against the wall strategically facing the door where they could watch whom came in plus have the advantage over the Mexican to the left of unit. Also Southern dont mean country, country is small towns in the middle of nowhere or outside of metro areas. New Orléans or Baton Rouge isn’t country but a town like Monroe, Louisiana is bc it’s a small town that a interstate passes through.
Rest In Peace O.G. Rebo!! When my family moved to Compton in 1976, O.G. Big Rebo and O.G. Moondog used to party with my uncles and aunts on Coral and Corregidor in Park Village. Eventually my family moved back to San Diego in 1983 but my time in Compton, I learned a lot and I saw a lot. Longfellow Elementary in the Grandees is where I learned how to fight.

I'm from Memphis and you can definitely tell by my accent. I've found it surprising that a lot of the OGs and just black folk in general who are from LA, when they speak it kinda sounds Southern. Very articulate as well. You can definitely tell that they're parents migrated from the South.

My homie will use to live in the Park Village projects I'm used to go visit him a lot he was only Mexican at the time to hang out where are the Crips are on there and then we're all cool with him this was in the late 80s he knew all the Samoan cats as well he's got a lot of cool pictures in his albums too and used to ride my scooter through there before they had security and all that back then anybody could roll through there but it was very active from what I remember

For those who never been to the NOLA, If you ever go. Hit the Whitney plantation, the only plantation that deals directly with slavery. Though I felt like my guide went somewhat soft on the Slave masters/white people in General.
I didn't know at the time but there is a Memorial to the German Coast Uprising slave rebellion, which was led By Charles Deslondes. The guide never mentioned the rebellion or the memorial.

I remember i was a youngster lock up Rebo found out my dad was king snake so he got me pulled to his dorm so I could hang with him. It's was cool he made sure I was straight cuz he had respect for my dad.
