  • Bestselling author Neal Stephenson is known for delivering novels with poignant and incisive reflections on our present and future. Now the acclaimed novelist joins us for a Town Hall conversation about his latest book Fall; or, Dodge in Hell.
The story follows billionaire magnate Richard “Dodge” Forthrast who is left suddenly braindead after a mishap during a routine medical procedure. Per his will, Dodge’s brain is scanned and its data structures uploaded and stored in the cloud until it can eventually be revived. When Dodge’s digital brain is reactivated, the accomplishment shatters the human understanding of death and leads to the creation of an eternal digital afterlife. But this brave new immortal world is not the Utopia it might first seem.
Stephenson takes the stage to discuss this grand drama of analog and digital, raising profound existential questions and touching on the revolutionary breakthroughs that are transforming our future. Join Stephenson for a deep dive into his latest mind-blowing speculative literary saga for the modern age.
Neal Stephenson is the New York Times bestselling author of the novels Reamde, Anathem, The System of the World, The Confusion, Quicksilver, Cryptonomicon, The Diamond Age, Snow Crash, and Zodiac, and the groundbreaking nonfiction work In the Beginning . . . Was the Command Line.

This book, immediately preceded by REAMDE, was spiritually rewarding experience. Thank you Neal for making lockdown bearable.

Fall isn't about VR. It is horribly overwritten but somewhat rewarding if you really want to wade through it

I loved Snow Crash, Diamond Age, Cryptonomicon, etc., but Jesus this guy is boring. I can't listen to someone say UM 5,000 times in 20 minutes.

I'm sure if he ever read this he'd track you down, get down on his knees and BEG you to teach him how to effectively speak in public so that no one in the Miasma ever again would call him boring.

@@MS-sv1tr Is that the same excuse he uses for writing 20 pages about someone waking up in the morning as his attention-getter for a novel?

@@MS-sv1tr dang that was a harsh burn. call the medics. Apparently, being an idiot on TH-cam is important to your identity. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Gotcha. oooooooh. The fact that you took me literally that I actually thought there was a connection there makes me worried that you do not understand any social cues whatsoever and are likely some sort of serial killer.

@@MS-sv1tr To spell it out for you, the connection was that both strategies (spoken and written) that he is currently using are wildly boring. He has turned into a boring communicator on the whole whether it be a novelist or speaker. Now, please move along somewhere else.
