@DeathfromAboveWargaming Successful DFA!!! But it looks like it was completely not worth it lol... never attempted a DFA but if that is the result why bother???
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming it's a situationally strong maneuver. Guaranteed displacement is good, though in that situation Dan should have probably charged you to push you out of the objective area rather than DFA. Other than that, generating bunch of clusters on the punch table can be very much worth it, if your target has damaged head, open torso with vital crits and so on. It's also good when used by something like crippled mech that lost a lot of its firepower, as DFA damage does not diminish with body parts lost.
The battletech compendium from back in the day had rules for how to play with out using hex maps. Me and the boys were so happy reading that lol. We made so many homemade buildings/trees and converted one of the tables in my friends garage into a permanent play table. Such fun times
Ah, the joys of playing classic where nobody can hit! This is why we have the pleasure that is Override! Nice to see a DFA executed properly though, and successfully at that!
Many thanks for another classic BT video - greatly appreciated, especially seeing another heroic Davion Force in play. I'm a classic player since 1987, but also enjoy Alpha Strike. Beautiful terrain!
Thank you guys for putting out more classic to enjoy. Btw there are those of us out there who do like your house rules and use of optional rules! Also if you could do one of those old style classic campaigns, with the new production, that would be amazing!
Wow, those Mad dogs always are so soft but bite big. And always love the Timberwolf I was surprised to see undamaged mechs at turn 6 guys well done and a really Great report guys.
This is the beauty of Battletech and Alpha Strike. You can taylor the rules to suit your wargaming tastes. You guys at DFA really create some of the best battletech content. Great for late night painting of Clan Trinaries 😉
I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain that Gauss ammo does not explode when you crit it. I think I remember this happening before in a different video of yours as well. Either way always enjoy your videos!
Great to see more Classic, hope to see more in the future. You should always role for crits in area's with ammo even if you blow the area off, because an ammo hit causes two pilot hits.
Absolutely loved the video guys! I'm a fanboy for classic though I love watching your content in general. The paint schemes were awesome as well. One quick thing I haven't seen others say is technically all attack declarations are done first, alternating players saying what's firing and at what targets and with what weapons. And then after this is when you then actually do all the rolling for shots, technically alternating but that doesn't really matter. This is very commonly misplayed but is really not that big of a deal. Just thought I'd point it out. This can affect your decisions because if declarations are not all done before seeing damage you can choose to shoot different targets based on what's happened or even alpha strike knowing that your mech is dead anyway. Also yeah as far as I know things with multiple crit slots can continue to soak up crits even after being hit once and breaking. Could be wrong though. Also I was gonna mention the tip about rolling with your big guns first then clusters but you beat me to the punch lol. Thanks for the awesome video!
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming no prob! I couldn't tell you how long our group played without realizing that wasn't right. It's super easy to skim over in the book and as someone who plays Warhammer I'm used to just declaring and shooting at once
With that Death from Above, Dan has finally, officially become part of the DFA Wargaming Wrecking Crew. A glorious, single leg dropkick that would make Drew Galloway/Drew McIntyre proud. Dan should definitely play Clan more. Aaron seems to have bad luck across the years whenever he fields a Centurion, but for once, the Centurion lived! Dan's Mad Dog and Timber Wolf both walking through fire, to deliver righteous Clan wrath brought a tear to my eye. I will watch this BatRep again, to see if Shutdown Override and Arkham Bridge songs make an appearance. Best songs for BatReps. I love Classic. Best mode to play. Great for working the brain and making people smarter. Also loving whenever you guys put your personal stamps on minis by kitbashing them. I cannot say enough good things about you guys. Mainly because there is not enough time in the day to do so.
Does anyone else think Dan could be Sean Austin in disguise? Sounds like him, lol. New to the game. New to the channel. Loving it all. Keep it coming, DFAWG (especially CBT 😊)
I use flechs automations quite a bit. They do massively speed up the game. It does have it's drawbacks though, not all weapons are fully supported (anything with multi ammo types) and it doesn't support vehicles/elementals so you do need to use some record sheets and manually roll for some weapons/ammo types. Another issue is it doesn't seem to support the floating critical optional rule so all through armour crits go to the centre torso (although this does speed up the game as mechs are less durable as a result) and you need to remember to turn off auto ejections on any mech with CASE (very annoying if you forget). Great to see another battle report and bonus for me as I'm mostly playing classic again these days.
Love CBT. With that said, when both forces were being presented, my first thought was "the FedSuns player is going to lose". The force seemed too light compared with the Jaguar's. Timber Wolf and Vulture are heavy hitting, plus as you said, Aaron, they are hard to kill. But one of the great things about CBT is precisely something like your good shots against Dan's Vulture, blowing out his side torso with concentrated fire that almost makes you think the pilot was purposedly aiming at that torso. That's something that more streamlined systems can't really capture. Great battle report as always, no matter what system you use. And congrats to Dan for a well deserved victory. Now we need a big battle between Aaron, Thom, Dan and Ben. In AS, because I'm not a sadist. Good luck on the next one Aaron, pray to Wolf Jesus. He will provide.
Something I noticed, when Dan's Vulture took five crits, Gauss ammo doesn't detonate, the guns themselves do, so he should've just marked off the ammo as being destroyed, haven't seen if y'all clarified that later on, so if you do, feel free to ignore this comment. :)
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Nah, it was an ammo crit. And only one damage from falling unless falling on their head, I think you made Dan roll twice as it's the seatbelt roll to prevent falling damage.
I like using Flechs for checking mech loadouts and how much heat they generate, where as Mordel doesn’t list it until you download the record sheet. The only two gripes i have with Flechs is, it doesn’t list the BV2 for each mech, forcing me to use MUL to generate a list. And all LB-X guns list ammo as cluster only
Do you guys ever do scenarios from sourcebooks? I recently picked up the first strike and Coventry sourcebooks and they both have a lot of cool scenarios that would be fun to see on TH-cam
Classic is good for a change up, but personally don’t play this way anymore. I like override for RPGs. From experience for tabletop battles with mates I prefer alpha strike for speed of play, and it’s the easiest to teach inexperienced players to get them into the hobby. Keep the battle reports coming. Love them.
Miniature rules used to be in the rules compendium, master rules, etc. They came in what was the standard rules by FASA, and not in a supplement. I'd argue that they're classic Battletech. If someone wants to argue that they weren't in the original box set, well, neither were AC 10s & 20s, or clanners.
Many would find it difficult to describe a star of clan mechs marching through the desert as graceful, warrior Caleb reflected, but then again most people did not have the refined senses the Smoke Jaguars had. Where others might see multi-ton warmachines clumsily aping the human form, Caleb saw the skill and barely contained power each stride expressed. He saw the *intent.* It made him smile. "Point three to point commander," he spoke as the mic clicked on. "Yes, point three?" The sand and heat caused the radio to crackle despite the star's close formation. "Before we reach target, I wanted to ask if the rumor was true." "We do not have time for this, quineg," came the harsh response. Caleb shrugged. Star commander Ren always was a bit stuffy before battle. Before he could give the ritual response and close the line, point two, a warrior named Colin, cut in. "I heard that same, point three. Come now, lead! If true, we should know the glory we are granted!" There was a moment of quiet before commander Ren answered, "aff. It is true." Caleb's smile grew wider. "In the Founder's name, Star Colonel Dan sent us personally?" "Aff." Colin's voice shook with obvious excitement over the comm channel. "The Smiler himself!" "The Laughing Killer," Caleb muttered under his breath as pride swelled in his chest. "No force can stop us, quiaff!" "Aff," Ren replied with impatience. "We will smash the freeborn trash and bring glory to the clan. No more idle chatter before we reach nav point alpha." The line went dead, leaving Caleb alone with his thoughts. His hands tightened on the controls, making the plastic creak, and it was all the young warrior could do to keep up Mad Dog from accelerating to top speed and leaving the rest of his star in the dust. With the Star Colonel's eyes on *his* star, he knew his skill and dedication would finally be recognized... Swatting aside some spheroids would be short work, and then all of Fincastle would fall to the jaguar's claws!
What are you missing with CBT? I can't really say because it either grabs you or it doesn't. My group has an online and in person component (three of our players are out of town/state and four are local.) So for the past year and a half we've been doing Override for the online campaign game, and then a few months back we started a bimonthly Alpha Strike game but then one week we started doing CBT again and now we're doing the Mallory's World campaign in-person in CBT. So as the current campaign winds down (we're doing a mega-battle on TTS using Override, nearly fifty mechs on the table along with a dozen or so tanks) we're lining up the next campaign and I put it out to a vote for CBT or Override and the vote came back 100% CBT. (Don't get me wrong, Override has a lot of virtue to it and was introduced to make company v company and larger engagements viable in a shorter timeframe, especially for bimonthly sessions. But the new campaign is reverting back to one player, one mech.) For me, it's the chess aspect of it, and the nuances of tactics and positioning. It's bits like dumping ammo because you've taken a torso breach, or angling in to concentrate fire on the damaged side of a mech. Neither AS or Override give that sort of granular feel. The deliberate pace of changing facing, the huge consequences attached sometimes to taking a turn and bleeding speed or continuing straight to bump that TMM just a little more, that's huge in CBT. It's the same reason we tend to play a lot of light/medium/fast heavy games and rarely put anything on the table seventy tons or up. (Unless it's an antagonist unit in a campaign.) It's checkers and chess- both classic, playable games but games that engage different people in different ways.
Good assessment. I do love the movement granularity of classic (facing change, tmm based on how far you actually went)… some of the other crunchies tend to bog down the game for me (like “reroll. reroll. reroll again.” on the crit table)… But I do agree it is a nice change of pace - very different kind of game. You do lose a lot (dare I say too much) with AS.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming for the reroll issue if there's a divisible-by six number of slots for a single set of locations we just use that, or if it's a four-slot we just call it out when the rolling starts ("One to four" so if they get a five they just grab and reroll immediately.) It's one of those small things that saves a second or two each time and the strange frustration that comes with it. Also! One of these days y'all might want to play around with the combat drop rules. We've been doing that a fair bit with the Mallory's World campaign because that's how the 17th Avalon Hussars generally make their way into a fight, and it definitely makes life interesting. Fair warning- if you're not entirely sure about the piloting skills of your pilots, don't try to drop your unit too tight or somebody's going to find out the hard way how much junk their lancemate has in their trunk.

@@DeathfromAboveWargaming With two challenges due to the tech level of Battletech in the end of 31nd Century and 32nd: 1) Energy consomption it will be in battletech a 40 heat 100 damage weapon ... 2) Mass and volume due to the presence of a miniaturized Large Hadron Collider ( IRL the CERN Large Hadron Collider has a Circumference of 26,659 metres (16.565 miles)) It will be a huge mass 35 tons at last and be splited in two locations probably - torso and arm and will be the sole component of the arm . "Word of Blake satisfied or satisfied, never refunded" Wunderwaffen, not so much, if you combine with the negative trait Difficult to Maintain ( it's experimental technology ) , Illegal Design ( for obvious reasons ), EM Interference ( it's an EMP nightmare ) and Obsolete ( after the demise of word of Blake ) and the range of a standard PPC with the same minimal range .
Interestingly enough, we don't roll our own chance for a critical hit, as when we started playing BT decades ago, we hated when we rolled a crit against ourselves, so our opponent rolls it instead. At least it's not our fault if we die then.
I don’t think that is correct. Read the section on 46 on “Multi-slot components”. So in our situation, if the gyro is destroyed but you roll a crit on a gyro location “slot” that has not been hit already - it soaks the crit but nothing further happens.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Maybe. It has been so long since I played BT Classic. Still watching the video. I was being tongue in cheek. I LOVE classic!!!!!
Mech factory while android exclusive and expensive if you want the full version is the best system by far. You could totally just turn on a screen cap app and run the whole game with the screens posted on the side.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming it has every manager you could want, rosters, virtual record/combined map manager so you can save your game right in the app and come back to it later, mech customizer. All the heat and damage and ammo is automated. It's great.

Good assessment. I do love the movement granularity of classic (facing change, tmm based on how far you actually went)… some of the other crunchies tend to bog down the game for me (like “reroll. reroll. reroll again.” on the crit table)…
But I do agree it is a nice change of pace - very different kind of game. You do lose a lot (dare I say too much) with AS.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming for the reroll issue if there's a divisible-by six number of slots for a single set of locations we just use that, or if it's a four-slot we just call it out when the rolling starts ("One to four" so if they get a five they just grab and reroll immediately.)
It's one of those small things that saves a second or two each time and the strange frustration that comes with it.
Haha sounds intriguing
In some sci-fi seting pulsar is not only a neutron star , but also a weapon with a battletech acronym APPC Anti-Particle Projector Cannon...
You will take some anti-protons , pratically it's a mixture of PPC and nuke ...
An Atlas taking a shoot from a battlemech sized weapon of this type will disappear in an atomic mushroom...
Sounds like a Word of Blake experimental weapon
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming With two challenges due to the tech level of Battletech in the end of 31nd Century and 32nd:
1) Energy consomption it will be in battletech a 40 heat 100 damage weapon ...
2) Mass and volume due to the presence of a miniaturized Large Hadron Collider ( IRL the CERN Large Hadron Collider has a Circumference of 26,659 metres (16.565 miles))
It will be a huge mass 35 tons at last and be splited in two locations probably - torso and arm and will be the sole component of the arm .
It will be an assault class only weapon for a mech defined as 100 metric tons weapon of mass destruction , a walking warcrime
But two caveats in case of weapon destruction it will explode case and case II are inefficient , and due to the production of antiprotons rate of fire will be 1 shoot per 2 rounds , but the production of ammunition will produce the 40 heat as the firing:
the sequence will be :
round 1 produce the antiprotons 40 heat ,
round 2 fire the antiprotons 40 heat, but if it hits it's annihilation guaranteed .
"Word of Blake satisfied or satisfied, never refunded"
Wunderwaffen, not so much, if you combine with the negative trait Difficult to Maintain ( it's experimental technology ) , Illegal Design ( for obvious reasons ), EM Interference ( it's an EMP nightmare ) and Obsolete ( after the demise of word of Blake ) and the range of a standard PPC with the same minimal range .
Oh yeah, it's CBT time
It’s not test firing, it’s checking heat.😉
Interestingly enough, we don't roll our own chance for a critical hit, as when we started playing BT decades ago, we hated when we rolled a crit against ourselves, so our opponent rolls it instead. At least it's not our fault if we die then.
Haha love it.
1:47:00 Wolfhound Dies: Aaron: "So..I Hate you...." Dan: "Ok."
If a component is previously destroyed like your gyro example if it get hits again it's a reroll the location
do you have a page reference?
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming p46 battletech manual under heading innapplicable slots
I don’t think that is correct. Read the section on 46 on “Multi-slot components”.
So in our situation, if the gyro is destroyed but you roll a crit on a gyro location “slot” that has not been hit already - it soaks the crit but nothing further happens.
Yay classic
Why are you charging heat on Dans mech on the same turn it took an engine hit. Sneaky nasty Aaron... :)
You take heat in the heat phase. The engine crit resolves in the shooting phase. I am pretty sure that is how it works…
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Maybe. It has been so long since I played BT Classic. Still watching the video. I was being tongue in cheek. I LOVE classic!!!!!
@gavincross2902 hahaha don’t you trick me like that! Classic is hard enough 😂
if it was HAG ammo then it wouldnt explode as gauss ammo is inert
I liked your Dad... er... Mad Dog joke, Aaron.
Haha I am what I am 😂
Mech factory while android exclusive and expensive if you want the full version is the best system by far. You could totally just turn on a screen cap app and run the whole game with the screens posted on the side.
Android exclusive may be an issue - can you run on PC?
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming no but you can just run a android emulator on PC so also yes
@jacobmccarthy655 interesting - maybe I will check it out.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming it has every manager you could want, rosters, virtual record/combined map manager so you can save your game right in the app and come back to it later, mech customizer. All the heat and damage and ammo is automated. It's great.
Csj pulls out another victory
The plot armor thickens. Damn Timberwolves haha
I think this the first time I have seen Dan win!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 conga rats Dan
You saw it first here on the channel 😂
Hexless is the best Battletech Classic.
Star Caapa into Hawk Hawkinz
DFA is the shit!!!!
DFA is just not worth it with Clan firepower.
*triggered*
What's Smoke Jaguar doing in the ilClan era ? Oh that atrocious writing happened thank goodness that guy is gone
