One of the first AS games I played, I had a Kodiak, my opponent had a locust. He went running by me, fired, rolled a crit, double 1's. Saved by Case :-)
When the guitar riff from Weapons Hot kicked in 2:41 I threw my plate of chicken tendies through the wall and started kicking and punching the air LET'S FUCKING GO!!! Maximum hype zoned and an excuse to go to Home Depot this weekend for wall patching supplies in one move. That's a win-win.
Very fun BatRep, guys. Never fails that the song "Arkham Bridge" starts playing when a battle shifts a pivot on the fulcrum, as when the ammo explosion critical happened to destroy the FedCom 'Mech. Hello to Dave, and seeing the fight as one on the edge for majority of the game was great. Lots of tension, lots of immersion. Also was funny to see Aaron's Capellans fielding the Davion variant of a Warhammer. Using their own 'Mech against them and causing all sorts of trouble. Capellan trickery for the laughs. 😁
Great battle report! Very fun to watch. I play a ton of alpha strike too, and go to a lot of the big events on the east coast like Nova and Southern Assault so I always enjoy seeing alpha strike on the channel. Some great tactical play there too with contesting the objectives and controlling ranges. Not to be a rules lawyer, but since the questions came up in the game, I will mention that fire control hits do not have any effect on to-hit rolls for melee attacks, and MP critical hits affect all movement ratings including jump (both rules on p50 of the commanders edition rulebook). You were correct that heat does not affect jumping MP, but the MP critical does. One small suggestion for through armor criticals in alpha strike games, since you are using the big pilot die, is to have one single small dice in your group of shots that is a different color. Make that your "critical hit" dice. So that the only way to get a crit hit is to roll a 6 on both the pilot and the crit dice. That way the probability of a through armor critical is the same as the core rules where you only get one chance per unit per turn (unless you split fire of course). If you allow the possibility of any of the individual shots being a crit, it greatly increases the chances of them in a game which greatly favors units with large volume of shots like the Ontos for example.

Yeah regarding damage. I do feel multiple attack rolls is the way to go when play AS. Allows your mechs to feel more like walking tanks that can some what take a hit. The default method is too lethal, which is nothing bad but it forces everyone to play too conservatively.
First of all Aaron if you don't appreciate Chargers we can't be friends. Good game. I don't know how it'd fit for your time budgeting and video length and all, but the great advantage of Alpha Strike is that you can throw more minis on the table and have larger engagements. Something y'all might consider is doing something like a reinforced company vs. company (12 mechs, 4 vehicles) and two players to a side to manage the card pile. Ability to easily scale up engagements is the biggest strength of the AS ruleset. Plus two to a side gives a fresh dynamic of table interaction. Also, make Thom run the vehicle lance.
After watching your other AARs I do like the optional rules for variable hits, and the smaller movement speed. Having medium range be halfway across the map is pretty crazy. In addition, your map set pieces are as always great. Could you do a video showing off the collection by building a few maps with what you have?
Thanks! And agree with the scaling… 2:1 goes quick but you are basically immediately in range. Stressing over movement is less critical as you can reposition fairly quickly (for better or worse?). And we do have a video showing how we build the maps in our hobby playlist! 👍
Absolutely loved this. Question for you - what source for the roads and river used for your board? The river especially really worked with your hill setup for this one and it looked super cool.
If I was still a single, motorcycle riding dude rather than a single income dad who just got conned into getting his daughter a phone, I would totally get that. 🫤
Where did you get that bridge/highway terrain from? It looks really cool and fits in battletech really well, and as a hexless player its the sort of thing I am always looking for!
I love Dave leaning into the FedSuns propaganda, but he can't have the GI JOE theme, that is a bridge too far! Them's fighting words, FedRat! Of course, the Celestial Wisdom shined upon you!
I think the moral of this game, can games have morals? Anyway the moral of this game is CASE will win you the game. Two anmo hits but CASE made the difference.
12:20 - "FIRST BLOOD" - from the Unreal Tournament (1999) video game
6:48 Knowing is half the battle. The other half is extreme violence.

Ah poor, silly Locust. 😂 love it!!
My son headshotted my perfectly undamaged Griffin with a Flea once. Hilarity ensued.
Aaron is correct about Fire Control criticals - they do not affect Physical Attacks in AS
Look at me. I know a thing or two every now and then… thanks for confirming!
It makes sense and it's a way to get you into melee when things get desperate
Ok gents, you have certainly out done yourselves with that table setup
My group loves the amount of effort they put in. For sure a glorious spectacle.

I was hoping to find the song name in the comments thank you
@@jonahs8525 Check out the whole albums here on TH-cam. You'll start recognizing the music during battle reports.
Would love to see more Alpha Strike content!
It could happen!!!
You have Two Shreck PPC carriers, clearly your theme song would be Smash Mouth's "All Star" - hell. it's even in a swamp...
Unreal tournament

Didn’t I use a 6L? Maybe not. But those Capellans are sneaky 🤓
I would love a video on setting this table up.
Looks amazing.
Thanks. We have a recent video on setting up these tables in the hobby playlist 👍
Dang, that was a bloody battle. Thanks for doing a rules-as-written playthrough of Alpha Strike.
Thanks for watching! Might do some more AS soon!!
Nice to see an almost rules as written AS game now and then.
*almost* 😄 Maybe some more on the way. Thanks for watching 👍

Dude that sunder print needs to be adopted as the new CGL art its so cool
Thanks Aaron. Love your battle reports. I am a fan now! I'm waiting for my Mercenaries box. Hopefully it'll arrive in Europe soon. Cheers!!!
I missed the 1:1 scale and the 1,2,3,4 modifiers. But really enjoyed it thanks guys
Great to see you finally play a game of standard Alpha Strike Aaron, as that's what we play by far the most. Excellent battle.

LOL a personal hell for Thom!
Superb, great to see more Alpha Strike content (although I'm also loving the Overdrive stuff). Dave was diced ! :)
Love the terrain setup on this battle.
Exciting match. Dave's choice to concentrate on close range omni configs and double with an Ontos was a risky gambit
Not gonna lie, that table setup was quite unexpected
Yay! Alpha strike ❤. Go DAVEons!
Really enjoyed the battle report! Inspiring me to finish up my Clan Wolf Beta Galaxy Star with armored infantry support.
Just got here... realtime comment... WHAT A FRICKIN' COOL TABLE!! Y'all are killin' it, yo!
Haha you are too kind! I did enjoy setting this one up!
Loved seeing all these new machines! Great flow to this battle too. Also a big fan of the range rules used here
Love the bridge terrain on this one, plus two great looking armies. Fantastic stuff!
That was a really good game. Good job both.

Thanks for watching!!
Time for alpha strike
First time being this early let's go!!!
Great to see some more Alpha Strike! Great battlefield!
Where did you get the river tiles?
Haha I have no idea - I ordered them from somewhere in Europe. Can’t find it anymore.
Unreal Tournament
Can you imagine how often your Gauss rifle and PPC would hit the dirt with those ridiculously low arm mounts on the Falconer?
Haha some of the designs make literally no sense

Thanks. Roads are from gcmini. Can’t remember or find where the rivers are from…
Great game! Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks as always for watching!
I would, in fact, buy a shirt that said "automatical" or "aotumatical critical" on it....just saying

Where did yall get those lovely vehicles?! I'm jelly...
How much time did it take you to set up that incredible play field?
Thanks! Maybe 45 min?
7th FedCom. A Loyal unit abandoned and died on Talon. :(

Then don’t watch it. Seems simple enough. We make our rounds on all the BT games, and Alpha is one of them.
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Fair enough. Didn't see the note it was Alpha Strike, so totally on me.
@harleaqin it may not be as bad as you think 😛 tbh it’s almost like a totally different game in so many ways, so I understand your aversion!!
