Unreal. I have a Juke - and this exact problem happened. Brought out a Mechanic and he told me I'd need a new starter (maybe a new alternator). Watched this video, tried your fix, and the CAR STARTED. $50 fix to replace the connectors with new. You saved me so much money - thank you!
Your two videos saved me. I was headed on a trip to Florida from DC when mine started acting up. I feared I would be stranded but these videos helped me get there and fix it next day. Many many thanks bro.
This video just save me money. My 2018 Nissan maxima was having the same problem. Just a simple twist remove the switch. I did not even need a screwdriver. Many thanks ❤
I have a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and need to replace the hard rubber bushing that goes into the break pedal. It comes into contact with the tip of the switch to turn off the break lights. The cruise control switch also rests on a similar bushing. Both bushing disintegrated after only 22 years😂😂😂, so no complaint here. They cost $5.00 each. I think a mechanic would charge over $50 to replace them. Definitely you solved a big problem for me. Thanks!
All I did is to remove the switch, open the switch gently by releasing it from side clips, you will see two free terminals. Take them out. Use maf sensor cleaner to clean it. rubbed them gently against sandpaper (two small round points) put them back on, make sure both terminals should touching each other. I have fixed my cruise blinking and not engaging issue. You probably don't need to buy new one😂. 5 minutes and done. Cheers
A friend took a look and said that the switch was making contact and not loose. I'm going to test an see if it is the brake booster. I love you TH-cam posters. You saved me.
That seems to be early for those switches to fail, but it is possible that there is dust or grit in them that is making it lose contact every now and then. I took apart the one that caused my issue and it looked pretty good inside except on of the contacts looked like it had over heated and was completely discolored, the other contacts looked great like they were new.
We have a 2013 Nissan juke that we’re having problems every now and then turning it on. Thank you very much for making this video. I will purchase the sensors and follow your instructions 👍🏽👍🏽.
This helped so much. After squandering around for 15 minutes trying to figure out where to start, I watched this and was finished about 6 minutes later on my brake switch
Great video. Thanks so much. It took only a few minutes to remove and re-install both switches. I actually didn't replace the switches but just turned them plunger-side-up and sprayed W-40 into them and they have worked perfectly.
I recently aquired a relatively low mileage(89,000) 1996 Nissan Altima. It runs great, everything works as it should, except for the cruise control. I tried to use it, and it would not set the cruise speed. The cruise control light on dash blinked. I read it may be the brake light switch? The brakes light up fine, but I was just going to go ahead and purchase a new brake light switch, since they're not a whole lot of money. Then, looking on rock auto, I see my car(apparently lots of cars) also has a similar looking, cruise control release switch. I don't have a way to test the switches, and now I'm not sure which one to replace, or maybe just replace both? Does spraying WD-40 on them somehow restore the connection or something if one, or both quit working? Any Advice would he greatly appreciated.
@@BradleyGunner-67 Hi David. I'm not the original poster. He replaced both switches and that's probably the best way to do it. But I'm, at best, a "shade tree" mechanic, so I just took both of the switches out and sprayed down into the plungers with WD-40. They are still working fine today. WD-40 is good for restoring SOME connectivity problems and worked well in this case. The switches are easy to remove and replace and require no tools to do so. Just take care to put them and their connectors back just as you found them and it should work. If not, then just replace them as the original poster did. One or both of these switches does permit the cruise control to work. I'm not sure which one, so service them both. Good luck.

There are videos showing how to clean the switches with just an icepick/meat thermometer/whatever long thin and sharp, and a flathead screwdriver. Newer vehicle switches can run you 60-80 bucks for just the brake.
I can understand trying to save some cash now with inflation out of control, and gas prices still through the roof... When I did these switches for my juke they were not expensive back four years ago. Also to note in four years since I replaced the switches they have not failed to operate one time, the car always starts.

Your garden is so impressive I wish I could do that much but I am limited by water here, the well only produces about 1.25 gallons per minute so it is easy to dry it out with too much watering.
Hi thanks for the video but my Nissan Juke released button won’t work once I put it on park , I won’t be able to press the release button to move it from park to drive or reverse could this be because of the break switch
Yes it possibly could be cause the brake switch is not working. I just tested it in my Juke, if I do not press the brake in the shifter will not move from park.
Hi can you tell me where do I find the small black circle plate piece that the brake switch goes into? There's one for each piece that sits on top the silver plate
You should post the link of your other TH-cam in the description as well so people can watch both. It took me a minute to find this video and on the other video, to where you mentioned that you would be posting this one, I thought, "If only he had a link going straight to the video of him replacing these parts." 😉I have a 2015 Nissan Sentra and I'm hoping this is what my issue is. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks fro the video - I think this might be my problem on my 2103 qashqai. Are there any adjustments on the switches ? I have also got the "traction control " light on the dashboard .....could that be related to a "false" brake indication ?? Thanks in advance
Would the cruise control switch being pushed further toward the brake pedal fix a cruise control not engaging? (I.e. the cruise control light comes on when turned on however i cannot set a speed).
I consider you a hero. Thank you on behalf of many great people who don’t take the time to say thank you for figuring this out and going above and beyond to make a repair video along with links to amazon.
I’m not sure if the 2020 Sentra has the same switches but it definitely has the same issues. My niece drove over 1000 miles to our place a couple weeks ago. Somewhere along the way someone told her that her twilight was out. I went out to the car with her and told her to turn the lights on. Sure enough only one twilight was on. I told her to press the brake pedal, nothing! The third brake light worked but the two in the tail lights didn’t. A 4 year old car and if this is the switch issue, she’s past her warranty for a faulty switch ( I know bulbs, brake pads, tires, wipers etc aren’t covered ) so this is on her. I’ve never had a tail light, or signal light burn out within the first 5 or 6 years so if 3 bulbs in the rear taillights burned out that’s pretty sad. I’ve never had a switch malfunction but then I’ve only ever owned one Nissan an early 80s Stanza. By the number of TH-cam videos and Nissan Forum comments, this is a very common Nissan problem. This is also a safety hazard as brake lights come in pretty handy in avoiding being hit from behind.
Idk if you would comment on an old video but what about replacing the white part that connects to the brake switch. One of wires (the light blue one) snapped off and now it won’t turn on. Should I just replace everything or is there a way to fix the wire.
It should be repairable, not sure what you mean by snapped off, hard to know without actually seeing it. If there is enough wire left to work with you can just reconnect the wire but worst case if the connector is damaged I would go to a junk yard an get the wires and connector from a wrecked car of the same model and just replace them, just make sure when you get them from the wrecked car to cut the wires as far up as you can so that you have something to work with.
Great video!!! do you know if the switches have a specific position (the contact area with the pedal) I see the switches have a finish in the cylindrical face that you insert in their slot... can you move the gap in between the pedal and the sensor? Thank you very much!!!
Sounds like it might be a different issue. I had the issue where my car would not start every now and then, the brake switch is what caused that issue, now that the switch has been replaced the car starts every time.
Did you replace the cruise control switch, because your cruise control wasn't working? cause I can't find the cruise control fuse, and the green light won't even light up.
I thank the guy that make this video cause it help me a 100% I take a 1min to fix minds if I have take it to the mechanic they would charge me A arm and a leg!! The last owner that have dis car never know what the problem was I take it up on my hands and fix it my self all I do is watch TH-cam videos and work on my car
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra , My brake lights work but my cruise doesn’t. I have the blinking set cruise light blinking on the dash . Do you think this applies to my situation?
Well when I first looked up at the brake and cruise switches both buttons were pushed all the way in. So if cruise was not engaging them set the cruise push pin to be out more so when brake pedal came back up it would now just barely push pin in. I even think when the cruise switch was screw nearly all the way in thus the push pin was all the way in and still wasn't even touching the brake pedal. How do you know if you need a new switch of any kind brake or cruise. My brake lights come on when pedal depressed. So would think nothing wrong with brake switch.
I think the cruise control switch on the brake pedal is for disengaging the cruise control when it senses that the brake pedal has been pressed. I replaced my switches because my push button start had become intermittent and I traced it to the brake pedal switches. I did not need to replace my cruise control switch for this issue but I did because it was cycled/used the same number of times as the brake switch and the brake switch is what was causing my intermittent starting issue, therefore it was logical to assume a similar failure could occur with the cruise control switch so it was also replaced at the same time, why wait for it to fail too.
@@madscientisthut i already changed the fuses , checked the wiring , the connector & light bublbs & still dont work , but i havent changed the switch & idk if that could be it

There's one for each piece that sits on top the silver plate
based on your description I think this is what you are looking for, let me know if it is not it.

@@madscientisthut thank you so much this is it, such a life savior.
glad to have helped you
You should post the link of your other TH-cam in the description as well so people can watch both.
There was no adjustment for my switches, not sure about the traction control light. Sorry for the late reply I have been super swamped.
Thank you so much for a nice comment! I make these videos for stuff I cannot find info on to help others out of the same kind of situation I was in.
I just change the sensor thanks for your help I was thinking in return the car. But now is working good
Glad it helped
The Juke was my last Nissan...ever
@@madscientisthut yeah sorry I say snapped offf but it looks like the wire was cut.
Thanks though I’ll try looking for the part.
Does cruise control switch control excelleration of nissan
Sorry, I missed this one when it came out!! I like your repairs!! Super good channel. BIG Thumbs UP #25
No problem. I miss lots of new videos but eventually I make it to them. Thanks for the nice comment!
Thanks for the vid just did mine in o'Reilly parking lot
If you get stuck somewhere just wiggle on it a bit. Worked for me and might just need to clean it after that.
Now before you switch them what did your car do I was just wondering
Was a great help in diagnosing and fixing my problem…many thanks.
Great video. Thank you. Took longer to drive to the parts store then it took to replace the switch.
What would you say is wrong is the break pedal is still really stiff after changing the break switch and the cruise control switch?
I've got a 2000 N16 Nissan Pulsar and don't have cruise control, Replaced the brake light switch and the issue is still there? What do I do?
Do you think this would apply to a Nissan Altima
Great video!!! do you know if the switches have a specific position (the contact area with the pedal) I see the switches have a finish in the cylindrical face that you insert in their slot... can you move the gap in between the pedal and the sensor? Thank you very much!!!
Very well explained and great camera work!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, glad to have helped out!!!
hi i have a question why did you change the crusing control
I figured both switches are about the same age, they both get used the exact same number of times so I might as well replace both.
I ask you because my crusier control doesn't work everytime i turn it on the light blinks but never engages, thank you anyway
I'm surprised the switches are still made in Japan. What year is this Nissan vehicle?
I thank the guy that make this video cause it help me a 100% I take a 1min to fix minds if I have take it to the mechanic they would charge me A arm and a leg!!
The last owner that have dis car never know what the problem was I take it up on my hands and fix it my self all I do is watch TH-cam videos and work on my car
Can one disconnect the CC switch and drive ok if bad?
Very very helpful. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you so much I loved how you had the two different angels. It was so helpful!!
Does this work for the 2011 Altima? I went to start my car and noticed the brake was very stiff. Dash lights were on but the car wouldn’t start.
hello my break lights wont turn on when i press on the break , will this fix the problem ? on my 2004 infinty g35
It could be one of many possible causes: switch, fuses, wiring, bad connector, bad light bulbs are other possabilities.
@@madscientisthut i already changed the fuses , checked the wiring , the connector & light bublbs & still dont work , but i havent changed the switch & idk if that could be it
With what you have already checked it is a very good chance it could be the switch.
@@madscientisthut alright thanks & also for taking your time to reply to me 👍
You are welcome.
Interesting. Isn't it a rare or common issue? Would the obd scanner pick up this fault?
Great job how ican know this not working in y car?
MSH thank you! Fixed my xtrail after viewing this.
I'm having a starting issue, would I be correct to assume that what I see in your video applies to my 2017 Armada?
Great video! Clear cut, and to the point. All done without some long intro, and annoying background music..!👍
Hi what type of break and cruiser switch model do I need for a 2017 Nissan Juke?
