Just bought the target hammer for my 586 and will have it fitted when it arrives. I never knew they even made them for the L-frame and it's hard to believe S&W never offered a target trigger/hammer option for the original (pre-lock) L-frame series revolvers. Just the appearance alone really complements the look of this model, not to mention the added comfort a wider trigger/hammer surface provides. S&W offered this option on certain K-frame revolvers but not the 586/686, which never made any sense to me.
As I mentioned I bought the target hammer/trigger about three years before I found a 586 that I liked enough to buy. It really makes a difference in comfort when I hold and shoot it I also bought early 80s S&W finger groove combat grips for it. They are original EOM and I paid a little too much for them. The replica grips weren't an option.
Great additions if you like to target shoot or hunt. My 586 no dash has the combat hammer and smooth combat trigger. I find it better for double action shooting. Like it's name says distinguished combat magnum with emphasis on combat. Great revolver.
It looks great. I recently bought an almost never fired 586 M silhouette 8" 3/8 barrel and it has the target trigger & hammer, front sight with 4 positions for elevation i guess, i think it is a nice hunting revolver but it is ilegal in Mexico where i live. I will keep it in my collection because it is an awesome revolver. i would give it in exchange for some other gun like a S&W617 wich is no longer sold in Mexico or a model 15 stainless in good condition because those are models with permitted calibers according Mexico's law but i think is virtually impossible to make that kind of deal through the border.
Yes the 586 are tough enough for the full magnum loads that I shoot; 158gr SJHP and SJSP. If you migrate to the US you will need to be a green card holder before you can legally buy a handgun. I hope than all the migrants know who to vote for so father can keep our Right to Bear Arms. If they vote for the Republicans well always keep those rights.
Yes, they are OEM target hammer and trigger. They are both wider than the original hammer and trigger. I happen to like more finger contact area. I have the original set put away. If I sell the gun I'll include the narrower hammer and trigger. I found the target hammer and trigger before I bought the revolver by three years. When I bought the revolver I took everything to my gunsmith who installed and fitted them.
Nice. Had 2send it back due to the barrel actually bent and blueing was missing in splotches lol. Hope they do me right didn't even shoot it. But I just ordered it it's a mod 27 classic series wanted it just cause the target hammer and trigger alone. And it's my 1st n frame too
Thanks! I also found combat grips with finger groves but they don't have the thickness of the target grips. I thought the combat grips would be thicker than that. I'll likely be selling the combat grips. Original combat grips from the 80s are very difficult to find. When you find them they are usually beat up and not really worth the asking price.
Hello, really like the video. I just recently bought a 686 no dash and would like to do the target hammer as well. I assume that you are in Texas? I live in the Dallas area. Could you tell me who the gunsmith is that you use?
You'll need to buy the hammer and trigger online like Gun Broker or from www.gunpartscorp.com/. When I was looking for a 586 I found the target hammer and trigger well before I found a suitable 586. I think I had the parts three or four years before I found the right 586. I paid $65 for the target hammer from GunPartsCorp.com. Here is a link to a target trigger on eBay. I don't recall what I paid for mine I cannot access purchase history beyond 3 years. www.ebay.com/itm/SMITH-WESSON-J-FRAME-TARGET-TRIGGER-400/184478035095?hash=item2af3bf6c97:g:nKIAAOSwnl1ffRRr
Nice looking 586, I like the look of the hammer& trigger you put on the gun. But I always thought the 586 came with a target trigger from S&W...I bought one back in 82, great gun.
It comes with target grips. The grips with the finger groves are combat and are thinner. You can still find target hammer/triggers on eBay and Numrich. There was several weeks between locating one then the other.
If you need the target hammer and trigger for the K frame there is a set on eBay www.ebay.com/itm/256483282699?itmmeta=01HXJ8MF82A2PHW68YTZ0M8208&hash=item3bb7984f0b:g:myMAAOSwAoRmIC5j&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA0DXT6vJCvypspquPJAAPe98%2FoSCSxGpFrXtjVwzrl9li8%2BJQbjO6lM%2F2He10xKDUN%2FIxy%2Fwsn094FiVIHruvKlrvBnFhvD%2BryE0q8oSFCG%2FhR8LM5TV6BKM9M3rzB%2BC8fLnXOVFZZ%2FMDGoiNHT%2FGc0UcstP8I8yu%2FRI4Vy1ZFTdKe4UrBoDrtnTFHkpfZv0%2BjjlrAgvJbxKmq%2FyKXHVDxtCx8QznlsCGfgfGKN%2B3rNPTMDhZwcgyIVzzTYPGW9hUd6BjgxtCQP05FKga7F1NOSo%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR5j00cjsYw

Got the big ones on my Smith model 19-4. They feel great. Look awesome.
Thank you very much!
Are those K frame replacement hammer & trigger?
Yes, they are OEM target hammer and trigger. They are both wider than the original hammer and trigger. I happen to like more finger contact area.

Beauty.
It’s perfect.

Yours looks Stainless, not blued,...which would make it a 686 not a 586 blued ? Unless it's the lighting in the room. Sure looks Stainless to me.
Its the lighting. I don't care for stainless guns.
Oh okay thanks for the information. Can you tell what gunsmith that you use?
