      I couldn't disagree more. It's like Melissa McCarthy, it just gets repetitive and boring after a few movies. He got successful with deadpool where he really shined but then decided he'd just act like deadpool in every movie he does and it's just.. sort of sad.
      Especially when people like you are like "wow! A one trick pony! More please!!!!"
      Same goes for the music industry too, that's the reason music sounds like crap now, they realised people liked the experimental auto tune sound and said "oh you like that huh? Well here, have nothing but that, infact screw it, robotize the instruments too!" And on and on it goes, and it's all because of people like you.

    As a software dev, Dude's whole existence is one hilarious nod to my profession. "Remember guys, today is the day we get fired" is what every developer thinks when incomplete code is rushed into production because management long forgot (if they ever knew) how professionals write software. Dude's list of "I'm here to kick ass, TBD, and third thing here." with the placeholder text had me laughing harder than anyone else in the theater. Why? Because I've put that exact same kind of thing into my own code many times in the past.
    The writing in this film was surprisingly clever and my whole family left the theater laughing and remarking that it was the best film we'd been out to see in a long time.

    • @darkvisiongothacked
      @darkvisiongothacked 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      yeah some of the best joy ever is when programmer comments/errors/etc get left in at production. there have been some hilarious gaffs over the years in gaming from it, but even more business focused you get some really funny shit that pops up now and then. Prob the favorite one i ever heard was a program my mom worked on years back and her co-worker had left as one of the "errors" that he had coded in. So program goes into production, users start using it...then all of a sudden IT department is getting a call from a user because "the program is insulting me". What did the error say? "you are an idiot". See they (the co-worker) KNEW in order to get that error one would have to have done something welll...dumb. no reason for a user to do that set of actions, so they had set it there as a placeholder...and just forgot. Needless to say the error had to be changed, but yeah good fun.
      Also love some of the just at this point kind of meme list that gets shared around of ridiculous programmer comments people have found over the years. though imo the all time king for forever is "When i started coding this only god and i knew what i was doing. Now god only knows." You see a comment like that you know tracing any function is about to be a bitch and a half.

The only real pain points for me were the overt "what Hollywood thinks games look like" shit, like the absolutely godawful UI elements when Guy puts on the glasses, which were both 20 years out of date and insanely exaggerated, and Taika's portrayal of a weird evil hippie gaming executive. I'd say narratives about self-discovery and self-improvement are in many ways diametrically opposed to agenda-driven narratives about how oppressed someone is. One is about blaming everyone else, the other is taking responsibility for yourself. Now, they don't HAVE to be complete opposites - oppression, racism, what have you does exist, and it's perfectly possible to acknowledge this while still enjoying stories about self-improvement. But it seems like the concept of "victim blaming" and its variants have made it impossible to point out that despite whatever -isms might be at work in society, your own efforts are also going to play a significant role in where your life goes.

Trust me That shit makes my blood boil. But it's all about money. Nothing else. You think studios have enough integrity to just promote equality cause they're good guys? No. They way over cook it because cinemas are massivellllyyyy declining. Every movie is an atom bomb of a risk that's why they can't stop jumping on to old familiar properties but with a twist... What if.. he was a she!!! Ah god dam it you did it! The same but different! Now let's shove this pack of shit down people's throats and if they don't like it they can blame lefties or blm or gays or trans or women or Marxists!

It leaves to to think about it another time with some tea (or some beers) and go: yeah, that stuff in free guy was pretty interesting to get deeper into. It also proves that having a strong theme, asking a deep question or whatever else you want to do with a movie needs to be everything the movie is. I myself find it difficult to enjoy a movie that doesn't stir the mind on some level. A movie without a message is fine, but not quite as fun for me. I scratch my head over it, it just doesn't fit so much to the rest of the script, maybe they actually tried to make it a joke joke, like the real one you know, like making fun of this whole "white supremacy" madness we have to live through. The character producing it seems to be a tad ironic/cynic type of guy, so maybe that's the case. We see how awkward it sounds when you don't read in the New York Times, and that is the message here.
    Awesome movie though. As a developer, I'm glad they actually spent some time to understand how things work and how to show them to the non tech savvy people so they will get it without overcomplicating things. And placeholders like "FRIENDLY GESTURE" are hilarious.

    "Yeah that paper on white supremacy and the dismantling patriarchy was so good"
    Not a single male character is shown as strong, self-assured, capable. They're all comedic tools to be laughed at or hated (or simping on the females). What female characters are laughed at in this film?
    I had such high hopes for this movie... I never finished watching it, I was so annoyed. I was going to do a movie review of it on my web site, too. I had much the same reaction. I went in simply hoping for at least a semi-neutral experience. When I found myself actually.... smiling??? and then chuckling a bit, and even laughing (out loud)... I gradually started to relax and enjoy a genuinely fun movie. The couple of out of the blue politically correct jokes fell quite flat on their faces, but they were swiftly buried by the onrush of FUN that ensued. It was like - OK, we made our obligatory politically correct jokes, are you happy now? However, the editing thankfully kept them very very brief. I'd actually forgotten them until the Drinker mentioned it. Bottom line? I was totally shocked. I had fun, laughed and thoroughly enjoyed the film. Highly recommended breath of fresh air!
