It doesn’t mean it isn’t going to affect your life. People have had their lives ruined by these online mobs even though they have never engaged in these debates. Just because you don’t know it’s happening doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist nor be obligated to leave you alone.
Just remember folks its always the people who constantly virtue signal about being "tolerant" and "accepting" that act the worst when others don't think like them. Don't be afraid to call them out on their hypocrisy.
It's not hypocrisy, it's hierarchy. They are insane, and must force everyone else to accept their insanity. It won't stop until we fight back, and return our culture to sanity.
Id love to see if theyd have any ability to see the irony of actualizing a quote from a republican president. “If youre not with us, then youre our enemy.”
The Drinker said something very poignant around 5 minutes in. He said "Imagine basing your life around Harry Potter." I think that's the biggest reason why so many people are so angry at her. The bottom line is, they invested too deeply into this fictional universe. Now that they feel let down by its author, they should have to come to terms with their own obsession. But they just can't. That would mean self-reflecting, and it's just too difficult for them. It's easier to lash out at Rowling than to come to terms with their own issues, so that's what they do.
Well, not gonna lie- Harry Potter is VERY emotionally significant to my life. That being said, when people were mad at her for supporting Johnny Depp (I took that as a signal in his favor but ok), they would tweet "I don't feel safe at Hogwarts anymore". Yeah, I wouldn't put it that way, that's so cringe. It astonished me that people didn't go "hey, this person I deeply respect said this thing, perhaps I should listen." and just abandoned HP. It was odd. That's when I knew something bad was happening in the culture that people didn't take the time to perhaps change their own mind, but the world must be altered to THEM.
I don’t agree with everything she said if anything, but I don’t care either, she wrote some books I like and from that came some films I love, I disagree with some of her points on trans issues ect, and that’s where I leave it, why can’t other people do the same? Lots of people simply can’t disagree with someone and still remain respectful to them these days, sad to see, but we have to remember there’s a lot of reasonable people out there too.
They've even attacked a VTuber named Pikamee, who is not even involved with any of the drama and got her to cancel her stream. They even had a site dedicated to finding people who have streamed the game. It's not about streamers having their viewers turn on them, they're literally forming lynch mobs to hunt down anyone who plays the game.
They didn't get her to cancel her stream. She allowed herself to be bullied into it. That's not the same thing. Never bend the knee. Never explain. Just do what you want to do and your audience will respond. If you lose the woke and they're the majority of your audience, you cultivated them as they're a tiny minority IRL.
....... wow that actually just annoyed the hell out of me. v-tubers are usually very wholesome and these people decide to come in and screw with people who are just about having good vibes. seriously, fuck these people.
I think MightyKeef hit the nail on the head. They chose this game as their battle, because it's easy. Boycotting and protesting any of JK's other revenue streams takes too much effort. With this game, people can just get out of bed and start raging on the internet.
That's pretty much how it is for the majority of their "causes". It's easy to just pull out your phone and start raging from your soapbox about something you had no intention of every buying in the first place. But what about the iPhone you're tweeting from? Supporting Apple means you're supporting slave/child labor in China. What about TikTok? Well, that's a Chinese company, meaning the money they get goes directly to oppressing LGBT people, Uyghur minorities, and more child/slave labor. You could go on and on with all the things they buy and support that are "problematic". But the difference is not using those things is "inconvenient". Having to buy a new phone? NOooo, I'll just keep using my iPhone, and pretend Apple did nothing wrong. Not use TikTok? NOoooooo, I don't wanna stop using that, so I'll just pretend it's okay. Etc. The wokescolds on twitter are all too eager to attack other people for not living up to the standards that they refuse to live up to themselves. Because it's far more convenient to just yell and scream, and not think about how they're being massive hypocrites.
And they won. There's trans in the game. Not only has giving the toddler the ice cream taught the toddler that screaming works, the toddler hasn't even stopped screaming.
I dont know what JK is like on social media (I've only ever seen the infamous trans post), but the Harry Potter series was an embodiment of the best of left-wing ideals. I think that's what they can't stand - someone who remains stubbornly unpolarised, with a middle finger in their general direction.
@@CarrionCrow993 exactly! People didn’t like Harry Potter or JK because she was showing left wing ideals. Now suddenly she is supposedly a far right extremist… it shows the terrifying shift of the left… it’s going radical and it’s so scary
Not just stepping out of line, but also not going that step further. There are still people who follow these trends but have boundaries, but when they say "this far and no further for me", it's the same like stepping out of line for the fanatics. Because the main problem of fanaticism is that someone always comes along who's even more fanatic and the rest has to follow or be rejected by the group/movement.
Imagine not being in a cult and holding people accountable for their actions, rather than worshipping people regardless of their actions, just because they are on "your team".
And HOW MANY 'anti-trans' comments did Rowling actually post?!? I thought she only really made ONE post on twitter that suggested she thinks there's a difference between being 'born' a woman and being a 'trans' woman? Did she release a FLURRY of 'anti-trans' messages that I missed?

Playing violent games is no more encouraging kids to become violent or perform violent acts than Tom and Jerry made kids want to perform violent acts. It’s all a smokescreen for people who want to control what others do with their lives.
No the whole violent media thing is a smokescreen for weapons manufacturer lobbyists to protect their bottom lines. Don't get into the culture wars they are trying to pull you into. THAT is the smokescreen.
It's utterly insane, I heard a freaking Gamestop employee say she wouldn't play the game simply because of J.K. Rowling and I was in the store when she said. Yeah because you not playing the game is clearly gonna affect one of the richest, most successful women in history. It's nothing more than grandstanding, thinking they are making "a difference" when really they are just validating their fragile egos.
Even if in some other universe boycotting this game did anything the only people you’d be hurting are innocent developers just trying to make a living. JK has fuck all to do with the game and she’s set for multiple lifetimes. You aren’t hurting her.
The irony is the so-called "victims" in this scenario are acting like high-school bullies intimidating and threatening anyone who simply want to play a video game. What an insane world we live in.

With that kind of logic that she created the Harry Potter universe we could e.g. say that parent's of the girl we know as "Mona Lisa" also had something to do with the famous painting about that said girl because they literally created the person who is depicted in the painting. It would also be asinine to attack Leonardo da Vinci or the painting if e.g. "Mona Lisa's" mother was a racist/slave owner/killer etc. Same way it is asinine to antagonize a game which is based on a world Rowling created just based on that connection between them. Context matters (in this case too), not just if we are able to connect a thing A to thing B in some way.
The idea that buying and playing this game somehow makes a person “immoral” is so ludicrous it’s frightening. What’s even more ludicrous and frightening is that there are actual people in the world who believe playing and buying this game is some key indicator of a person’s values or psyche or their propensity to become radicalized by said game. Hypocrisy is the religion of the woke liberals ..... and they are devout. For people that ramble on and on about their identities they have an incredible lack of self-awareness, lol.
The funny thing is that this makes people not want to support your cause. Which is kind of the problem you see is that people undermine the very causes they apparently stand for.

I really respect JK for her ability to hold onto her property, now a days you are forced to sign away all your IPs but she manages to hold to her creation and it's inspiring.
there was a rumor she was offered a ton of money to sell the IP to Warner like Lucas sold off Star Wars. But since the backlash, I don't think she will ever let go of the IP, especially after the trans trolls threatened her kids, and even future grand kids just because she said people with a PENIS shouldn't be going into and exposing themselves in women's safe spaces.
yea i agree, even George Lucas gave away the Star Wars franchise to Disney for a buck. J.K. is also the only women in the top 15 all time wealthiest women on Earth that made her wealth off of something she created. All the other women were married to wealthy men n which the men died, and they inherit all the money, or they were daughters that inherit their parents' money.
Whilst wholly dependent on individual circumstances in truth few independent creators are ‘forced’ into signing away anything, at least not in the literal sense. No, most simply get dazzled by the stupid money big corps typically offer up for all rights and interests to their lucrative creations and happily proceed to sign it all away. To her credit Rowling is one of the few that has, so far at least, declined such temptations, although it helps being already filthy rich of course… 😉

As someone who has zero interest in Harry Potter, the campaign to cancel the game has only made me more interested in it. I wouldn't have given it a second thought, but now, it has my attention, and it looks legitimately good. Funny how that works.

@@Caffeine_Club exactly. These so called activists aren’t actually doing any journalism work or trying to change policy. I’ve begun to believe that one of the chief sins of man is sloth, and it explains the feminist mindset so well. You see, they know themselves well enough that they don’t want to do research topics that affects people’s lives and aid the truly poor and downtrodden. It would require years of dedication and study that a slacker (or slacktivist, to be more precise) would never dream of doing. But they still want to be morally vindicated. Fighting forced prostitution, environmental damage or economic affairs is tough and mentally draining. But they still want to FEEL like they’re doing something for the world and their fellow man even though they’re just too slothful to do just that. When you become an adult you having this longing for purpose and much of that purpose comes through aiding your fellow man. So when they recognize this desire within themselves but ALSO recognizes their laziness and apathy they have to meet somewhere in the middle and that mostly comes down to 1) trying to attack trivial/mostly harmless things like a Harry Potter video game and ruining real peoples’ lives 2) doing something to make people FEEL good that’s a token effort at best but accomplishes nothing in substance, such as making a black woman a super hero. I've seen one Harry Potter movie once, I don't remember it at all and I think this game looks awesome. I saw a great image of a framed cross stitch saying: You picked a weird hill to die on but at least you're dead.
The films are crap. The story itself is OK, they just picked child actors more or less based on looks rather than acting ability or chemistry with each other. Plus they made extremely weird and unnecessary additions to the scripts which add nothing to the films purely to add more unnecessary CGI VFX shots. For the first 3 films it wasn't a problem, but it is from the 4th film and progressively worse from them on. The adult actors do fine I might add - the problem is that most of the dialogue is the bad child actors.

In answering the final couple questions regarding spells in the Harry Potter canon 1. There is no spell in the canon (at least not in the original 7 books) which "turns people inside out". 2. Sectumsempra - the spell that evicerates the target and "gashes them open", was created by Professor Severus Snape, not Voldemort. 3. The spell that was reffered to which "removes bones from peoples bodies" is called Brakium Emendo - Might acttualy be (and probably is) a spell that mends broken bones, but when it was cast in the second book/movie by the invenerable and unfathomably incompotent Gilderoy Lockhart (who pronounced the spell "Brakiam Amendo"), he botched the spell so hard that it completely removed the broken bone in Harry's arm. (Perhaps) some fun little side notes - "Brakiam" sounds a lot like "Brachium" which it the latin/medical terminology for fore-arm - the part of Harry's arm that was broken - before Gilderoy "fixed" it. "Brakiam" also sounds a little like a shortened/conjoined version of "Brækket arm", which is Danish and means: Broken Arm. "Amendo" means "amendment" in Esperanto - an amendment in common usage meaning; a minor change disigned to improve the subject.
"Isn't there a spell that can remove all the bones from your body, so you're like a jelly-man?" That was a short story by Ray Bradbury. Is this a timely story? Nah, couldn't be.
Yeah, but when animated skeletons chase you around. They don't see you with eyes that they don't have. They're just communicating with the one waiting to get out of your body.

There are very little triple A companies that produce entertaining video games these days. Apart from your one or two outliers indie is probably the best way to play games. Made by real human beings that set out to make great games instead of companies who try and pander to every single group to make as much money as possible
This is true, but when those AAA companies do produce a really high quality and entertaining game (i.e. Elden Ring, GoW: Ragnarok, and now Hogwarts Legacy) the praise is always well deserved
Nothing says ‘dignified boycott’ like screaming spoilers to a video game all over social media. We all know those boycotters will end up playing it, and _hate_ themselves for it.
If they have the spoilers then they have already either played it themselves or watched a streamer who already finished it. Either way, they have either supported the game or the people who are playing it. If they had even a shred of self-awareness, they’d be hating themselves already.
What I love is nobody actually cares about storyline spoilers in an open-world game... you just go around doing whatever you want and get to the main quests when you get to them.
as a former lib/centrist who became proudly conservative in 2016, you're going to start seeing that more and more... People try to shame me for it, or act like I'm stupid or ignorant for picking a team, but I'm a conservative because I am trying to conserve the liberals ideas of the Western Left before 2015... None of my positions have radically changed. None of my core beliefs have shifted. Radical leftism is just that; radical. That would be fine if the moderate left held any sway, such to the extent they had since their inception, but they just cede all their arguments and resolutions to the worst among them out of mere cowardice. Horribly saddening to see a whole political sphere I once loved fall into darkness. I am proud of believing and projecting conservative ideals, even if they might not align with every traditionally conservative perspective. It's been really heartening to see many people form all walks of life identify as conservative and bring their own ideas to the fore. We're not all straight white men. When my friend asked me why I identify so strongly as a conservative I told him sometimes you have to pick a side if you want to have a say. You can't change the world in a democracy by not voting. Apathy is moral decrepitude.
melonie mac has said several times that these movies/shows are targeting the smallest percentage audience. i STRONGLY DISAGREE. The production companies are targeting Blackrock financial as their target customer base. Anything else is irrelevant. I originally wanted to buy it before the controversy because it looked cool. Spite is what made me pre-order the deluxe edition. The game is genuinely very good. Very immersive, good fan service, good combat that requires some attention and skill, good exploration.
I wasn't even going to play the game but after all that hysteria... I got myself the Deluxe Edition. Didn't even regret it, great game. It's like with the Parental Advisory sticker on music albums. Meant to do harm, became the best marketing possible ❤
It’s funny cause a lot of these dramas stem from twitter, but what a lot of media and people on twitter don’t realise is the large majority of people don’t use twitter or care about it because it’s not real life 😂
Played it last night and this morning before leaving for work, it’s really cool so far and honestly darker than I initially thought it would be. Aside from no Quidditch, this is the game I’ve always wanted.
7:28 It became mainstream. The effect wasn’t immediate, but gaming slowly morphed into something more insidious. I hadn’t realized how bad it got until around the early to mid 2010s.
Lmao what do you think they’ll do, they’ll probably play the middle ground and then admit the Trangry boycotters were 100% justifies and right. South Park is woke garbage.
I'm a filthy casual and never felt the gatekeeping. There were hard-core gamers and I wasn't one of them and frankly didn't want to be. I just wanted to play casual relaxing games. Never understood why so many people demanded that hard games be dumbed down.
The outrage over the fact that a popular game was difficult, (Elden Ring), shows the direction the industry has taken. Journalists were furious that there was a game for the hardcore player base and that it was incredibly successful.
Ironically, probably one of the most inclusive games I've ever played (even goes out of the way to make sure the PC is non-Binary by default never referring to the player as him or her)
I think the "buying it out of spite" thing is overstated. The large majority of people that own the game play through the first quest, which means people are actually playing the game, and when you look at the stream numbers and whatnot, it's clear that people are actually interested in the game, not just buying it.
Hagrid motorcycle ride in Orlando is DOPE AS F. One of the coolest roller coasters I've ever been on. I was able to get 3 rides in 1 day hahaha. Worth it.
Funniest thing about this is that not only does the game has the 1st canon transgender character and the first official on screen lesbian couple, you can also make your own transgender character 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's a very basic open world game with a lot of handholding and a billion fetch sidequests. The whole hysteria is just because it's harry potter and people enjoy corrupting everything with the message.
@@FireRising86 Enjoy what you enjoy, I'm not judging you. Just my two cents. Its got all the worst parts of open world games and has been done many times before. If it didn't have the harry potter name attached to it, it wouldn't even register.
The ironic thing is they increased the notability and awareness of the game exponentially by throwing such a fit about it. I don't follow gaming, or the Harry Potter-verse, so I never know about any game releases, yet I can't stop hearing about this one.
One thng about Hogwarts students one cannot say is that they never miss leg day. Especially the Gryfindors and Ravenclaws with thier common rooms in towers while the Hufflepuffs nestled in the kitchens and the Slytherins sulk in their dungeons.
You can't turn people inside out. But you can turn them into dust, electrocute, incinerate, torture with the crucio curse, and turn them into a chicken. 5/5 game. They really did a great job. They managed to exceed expectations with such an ambitious project and made the game a lot of us have wanted since childhood. The combat is one of the best parts. It takes a bit to master and isn't too easy. And it all remains as true to the world as possible. It's just a joy to play. It made the mob all the angrier when the game itself turned out to be good. Even the major game critics gave it 9/10, though they had a big disclaimer about JK and her "evil thoughts" below.
Honestly, the fact the combat isn't easy is part of the fun. It feels like you're actually learning (you know...like you're in some kind of wizarding school or something).
It’s sad it has to be said over and over and over, but here it is again: ACTIVIST DO NOT SPEND MONEY. They do NOT have money, they have YOUR money. If you cater to them they will find a reason to still hate your product and “boycott” it by doing what they were ALWAYS going to do - NOT BUY IT.
When things become mainstream, it all goes to shit. Gaming, comic books, car meets etc. When more people get their hooks into something, they drag it down. The worst part is that it's mostly the fake ones who are dragging out down and the paper who actually love it are the ones who are suffering while watching their favorite thing burn.
I've always had a lot of time for J.K. Single mom who survived on benefits and wrote books from in a cafe is now one of the wealthiest women in the world and yet does a hell of a lot of charity work and philantropy - most of which she doesn't ask for any recogniation for. She's also that rare breed of multi-millionaire who sees tax as a moral duty and privelege - when asked why she didn't moe abroad to pay less tax, she said that she'd live off the state when time's were hard and it would be a betrayal for her to turn her back on the state when she received a six figure contract'. Fair play. She is an old second-wave feminist who believes that 'womanhood' is a lived experience that is shaped by biology. I'm not sure I if I agree with that or not but frankly I don't think - as a man - I have any righ to be telling a middle aged woman that's she's wrong about it means to be a woman. It's her opinion - God, there are real shits out there to boycott.
You clearly bought into the bullshit rags to riches tale - she was on benefits and a single mum? Big deal - looked after by the state. Wrote the book in her mates trendy cafe…. Not a dirty grotty backwater cafe….. all bullshit….
I was kinda bummed out, I was told that you could killing curse muggles at the game and it would be like GTA and you would get like 5 stars and Aurors would show up and work you over.
She said that there are physical differences between biological and trans women that she would like people to understand and acknowledge. She wanted her experience as a woman to be recognized. It was a really mild and respectful statement, but her sin was saying that gender and sex are two seperate things. She's gotten a lot snarkier once she realized how insane the TRAs are.

It's a religion and JKR is a heretic, if they could they would burn her at the stake.

No, most simply get dazzled by the stupid money big corps typically offer up for all rights and interests to their lucrative creations and happily proceed to sign it all away. What a great vid. Not only true, but absolutely accurate too. Thanks for sharing. I'm grateful that there are still some people denouncing, pointing out and execrating these abominable realities, which are no less true because they are horrible. Magnificent music, stunning visuals, gorgeous animations, certainly entertaining and interesting story, fun mechanics and progress, it's very good! whatever haters -and fanatics wanting to shove their political agendas into gaming- say.

It's pretty, it's fun to play and I'm looking forward to logging on for another several-hour session (just have to make sure my calendar is clear).
And yeah, if people hadn't whined about the game so much it would have totally passed a lot of us by because I had literally forgotten that it was even a thing until people started drawing lines in the sand. The Streisand Effect strikes again.

It even has a name, the Streisand Effect. People don't like to be told what they can and can't do, and are stubborn in the face of tyranny. Activists very much don't understand that and have been wreaking havoc on their own causes for years now because of it.
A lot of people wouldn't have known this game even existed had the drama not gone mainstream and put its existence in everyone's faces.
I'm one of them, I've never read the books or seen the movies and hadn't heard of this game before the controversy. I love RPGs but was under the impression that Harry Potter was more of a kid's thing that you'd have to be nostalgic for to enjoy, so I likely wouldn't have even considered playing it had I learned of it organically, but the reviews have all glowing and praising the open world so I decided to give it a shot and pre-ordered it.

This nonsense is grade A slacktivism and it’s killing not only our youth’s sense of worse but political discourse as well.

It sickens me how many reviewers for the game feel the need to mention Rowling's "abhorrent views" yet can't provide any examples.
All JK did was point out the obvious. There used to be a word for "people who menstruate". Biological sex is a reality, there's only 2 of them, and there can be labels for them both. If we made new labels, whatever those new labels are would just be the new "man" and "woman" label. In answering the final couple questions regarding spells in the Harry Potter canon
(Perhaps) some fun little side notes -
"Brakiam" sounds a lot like "Brachium" which it the latin/medical terminology for fore-arm - the part of Harry's arm that was broken - before Gilderoy "fixed" it.
"Brakiam" also sounds a little like a shortened/conjoined version of "Brækket arm", which is Danish and means: Broken Arm.
"Amendo" means "amendment" in Esperanto - an amendment in common usage meaning; a minor change disigned to improve the subject.
Amendement is also used in french and english for the same meaning. Especially with law.
Love all of you. Great collaboration! Melonie Mac - "John 1...17"? Nailed it, you're in.
"Isn't there a spell that can remove all the bones from your body, so you're like a jelly-man?"
That was a short story by Ray Bradbury. The "protagonist" develops a phobia of skeletons, and so finds a doctor repellent and unethical enough to remove all the bones from his body, leaving him an inhuman horror on the floor.
Is this a timely story? Nah, couldn't be.
Yeah, but when animated skeletons chase you around. They don't see you with eyes that they don't have. They're just communicating with the one waiting to get out of your body.
Kinda happened in the second HP book too, but it was only Harry's arm.
That happened to Peter in family guy

Nothing says ‘dignified boycott’ like screaming spoilers to a video game all over social media. We all know those boycotters will end up playing it, and _hate_ themselves for it.

Work you over? Pause.
Am I ignorant in asking, what has Rowling done apart from offer the opinion that people with a vagina are women?
That's literally all she did. She is 99% woke but that one dissenting opinion was enough to be exiled from the cult.
I think her actual quote was “women have uteruses”
Pretty much that, but certain people just cant handle facts
Thank you for the replies everyone! I found the quote: "People who menstruate. If only we had a word for them".
That's _it_ ?
She said that there are physical differences between biological and trans women that she would like people to understand and acknowledge. She wanted her experience as a woman to be recognized. It was a really mild and respectful statement, but her sin was saying that gender and sex are two seperate things.
She's gotten a lot snarkier once she realized how insane the TRAs are.
