    they are crystals that's why they glimmer...they don't add glitter to the minerals.

  • @godzandheros
    @godzandheros 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    They don't have glitter in them, it's the stone. Like amethyst is a type of quartz, if you grind up quartz you're left with a fine sparkly dust that's in the pigment giving it that sparkle. It's crushed up quartz.

      It's probably Mica, in all of them..

    Ok, this set is just so dreamy to me with a little bit of yummy mixed it for good measure! 😘 I really am so exited and grateful that you've done all of this for us. Seriously, Sandy, Ellen Hutson & Daniel Smith- could it get any better?!! LOL And you captured that glimmer PERFECTLY!!! Anyone that's ever tried filming or photographing sparkle knows how stinkin' hard it can be, and you nailed it here my dear!! And I've already said it twice, but I'm going to say it again. THANK YOU!

      @@kimesch9698 pretty sure there's a yellow apatite which would be amazing if it's got similar properties to the green one but from the looks of it I doubt it would be a strong pigment, maybe similar tinting strength to the lapis lazuli but I don't know enough about it to tell

    Rhodonite is beautiful, as long as you're prepared for the granulation turning a doe coat tan or buff as it oxidizes. :) It's LIGHTfast, but not colorfast.
    My Amethyst Gen. is significantly less sparkly than the examples I've seen others swatch.

    I am buying the intro set or the Turquoise Genuine next month! I have no D.S. But there are some colors I know I will not be able to resist. I am taking a loose watercolor course, and I am not bothered by the lighter pigmentation of many of these. I am quite sure they will make fantastic mixes in transparent colors! Thanks for the swatches! They help us make our first selections, and beautiful painting!

    I’m confused. The Daniel Smith website says that the Primatek line only has 36 colors, not 37/38 colors. Your color swatch chart shows 37 so I’m wondering which one is missing from that website list. I know this is an only video, but did they discontinue one of the colors or did you make an extra swatch on your chart?

    • @SandyAllnock1
      @SandyAllnock1  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is an old video so I’d need to dig to figure it out but I do recall at the time there were a small number of colors they had just at their retail store-they were on the way to discontinued but I didn’t know it early on. That might be what you’re referring to.

    Wonderful review! I was wondering if I could replace a cool red on my palette (such as quinacridone magenta) with the Rhodonite Genuine and a phthalo blue with the Mayan genuine? Or are these colors more of an "add-on" for your colors. Thanks so much for the help with this video!

    How can we get a full list of the right names and colors of the paints with glitter. I don't see them listed in your discription. I clicked on the link and it just went to a website with all the paints. I can't tell which is which. If I were more experience, I might understand but I am new and learning. I don't want to buy the wrong ones. Some say pearl or luminous and not glitter and I'm not sure if that means the same thing. I know pearl isn't the same as glitter. I'd love to get the starter kit then start building on blues, purples, pinks and so on, but it's hard to tell, from the link and the names are not listed in the discription. I mean, maybe it is and I'm just not understanding.

I've been trying to teach myself over the years, watching TH-cam videos, during seasons when I have free time to paint and draw. Anyway....I've watched many tutorials on TH-cam, and they are so helpful and lovely!!! You words have encouraged me so much and helped me to believe I can! Your words have ministered to my heart! • @SandyAllnock1

      @ashtoncousins3743 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not a huge fan of the shimmer line. It seems like the Primatek sparkle has a more natural look. I just didn’t know if adding darker colors to it would take the sparkle away ❤️ thank you for replying!

    • @godzandheros
      @godzandheros 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because it is natural, the "glitter" in them is due to the crushed up stones in the pigment themselves. Like amethyst used in this video, is a type of quartz, and so when you crush it up and shine light on those pieces, they're gonna sparkle.
