Paws of War Helps Marine and Service Dog Living on the Street

- This is Part 1 of an on-going story of Robert, a US Marine veteran who was living on the street with Hero, his service dog. Paws of War deployed a team to help get them off the street, bring Robert to a hospital, and Hero to an emergency Veterinarian.
It was at that time that we sadly learned about Hero’s cancer diagnosis. While he’s not in any major pain, we know that his time is limited, so we’re going to help him carry out his Bucket List by doing all of the things that he loves. We want Hero to experience thing that he’s never done before, and give him the best remaining life, one that he truly deserves.

Robert is homeless but is there for his dog 100% 😢. He's a better owner than alot of citizens, who abuse or abandon their dogs. I don't know if he has PTSD, but that can really alter someone's life. These guys deserve more help than society is giving them.

I was in tears. It just blows my mind how the government doesn't look after its veterans. The people who gave their lives for their country, and said country can't even look after them. I know that man is absolutely devastated right now. You can tell how much he loves his dog, and when you have a pet who was been your only lifeline time and time again, the thought of losing them is crushing.

What a beautiful rescue story for the veteran and his dog. How tragic that Hero has cancer. It’s wonderful that the rescuers are trying to give him the best life possible for the rest of the time he has left with us. And, yes, our tax dollars should be used to help homeless veterans and animals. There’s no funding for poor animals that are in need of rescuing. There’s only private, charitable organizations. There’s very few laws protecting animals from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Even when they’re rarely enforced the human perpetrators get a slap on the wrist. We need to have better legislation passes and the ridiculous amount of tax money that’s going WHERE, again? To be budgeted in to help as many of these needy animals as possible. They’re so helpless without us.

I pray that Hero never experiences pain and that he leaves Robert while being loved and cared for until the very last second when he’s ready to be with the heroes up in Heaven. 🙏🙏🙏

Disabled veteran myself homeless with my pup and cats over a year . We been living in my car so we are great full . Im younger so I don’t mind it too much really pisses me off this vet has had a rough time and now things gets better his puppy is leaving him. I’ll pray for you and the pup! It's sad to see things like this happen to, ESPECIALLY a VETERAN who fought for this country and when the country you believed in, loved, and fought for and that same country turns their back on them not cool. I was crying just looking at the thumbnail. Beautiful story and sad at the same time.

My gosh thank you so much to the beautiful people who help this poor man and his gorgeous dog ,the dog is service dog and he is struggling 😢 heartbroken watching this but I'm delighted seeing persons caring for both of them. There are many things my tax dollars are used for that upset me. Then there are ways my tax dollars AREN'T used, that upset me more! There is no excuse good enough for why our veterans are left like this! I'm so grateful to your organization for taking better care of his dog than our government takes care of the human! Same here in the UK, it's truly sickening, no after care or help until the charities step in. Our government treated the amazing Ghurkas badly who fought along side British troops, they are fearless, my uncle fought along side them on the Khyber pass. Our government didn't even give them a pension and weren't given permission to stay in Britain after the war. Politicians are crass ungrateful b------s. I believe this has now changed but was fought for by many famous faces.
