The crazy thing is that this band played for three hours a night with this same kind of passion and intensity. Definitely the greatest band I ever saw in a live setting.
This was filmed in November of 1969 at a television studio in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The audience was very small, but this was shown on national television, and they were just becoming really big in 1969 when their first album came out earlier that year. Between 1970-75 they were one of THE biggest bands in the world. The intensity that they performed with was typical at every show, it didn’t matter where it was or the size of the audience, they played HARD. They usually played for 2 or 3 hours.
GFR sold out Shea Stadium in 1971 in just 71 HOURS! The only other band to sell out Shea was the Beatles and it took them weeks. In 1969 they were unplugged and kicked out mid set when opening for Led Zeppelin in Olympia Stadium in Detroit because they were blowing the roof off of the place! You need to watch “Heartbreaker” and “We’re An American Band” live in L.A. 1974.
Keep one thing in mind #MDreeezy, as you react to ANY song before 1997, especially the music from the 60's, 70's and 80's ... there was no such thing as 'auto-tune software', digital/stereo equipment and any other hocus-pocus BS studios use today to enhance a singers voice. The music created by my generation {perhaps your own parents generation} came from raw, unadulterated talent with heart & soul layered in between. The artists back in the day had to have actual talent to sing, play instruments {singing & playing at the same time was common theme to}. The person's 'looks' came in 3rd sort of speak. They weren't looked upon as most important as they are today. I don't know if you have had the opportunity to see any one of your favorite artist LIVE, but if and when you do, I guarantee they won't sound ANYTHING close to their studio versions.
Glad you listened to this great band from the late sixties to the mid seventies. I met the lead singer, Mark Farner, several times. He’s a really nice guy. I recommend you react to Heartbreaker live 1974 next by them.

Now that is real music. Technology has advanced a lot (i.e. auto-tune etc...) but not musical talent. I'm not a fan of rap and have never really considered it as music. It is definitely an art. But music? Not IMO. Good reaction. I would suggest some earphones to get the full experience. This bassist was often referred to as the " God of thunder."
You need some modern rock too! Check out The Warning ⚡. "Evolve" live at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. They are a 3-piece power trio like this. They will blow you away.

This band has a lot of bangers them and Deep Purple was my favourite bands growing up . I’m with you on the new stuff rock ,hip hop but I did come across a artist that changed that REN he can rap with the best and he plays Multiple instruments.He’s been around but not mainstream check out money games ,theHunger Because he has a band called the big push it does live bus game in England you won’t be disappointed plus your Prescribers go to the roof yourself

A lot of their songs are more than 8 minutes, and they play them just like this one. I'm 65 now and I started listening to them when I was 8.
