This guy was fire... Eric Clapton heard him on the radio while he was driving and said he could think of nothing else until he found out who he was. Later on, Clapton said he was afraid to go on stage with SRV because he wasn't sure he could keep up. The guy makes non-musicians want to play guitar and makes guitarists think about giving it up. What makes it even more crazy is that he played crazy-heavy gauge strings, usually 13s. Watching him bend those heavy strings up towards the nut makes my hands ache. Texas Flood is an amazing album and well worth the price to get.
Great reaction! A clinic in blues is SRV with Johnny Copeland, Tin Pan Alley - will knock your socks off! I also highly recommend Life Without You live at The Capital Theater - Stevie speaks a message directly to the crowd, plays behind his back, with his teeth - losing a tooth in the process, and does a guitar swap at the beginning. Charlie Wirtz was SRV's friend who made guitars, (& Stevie's guitar Charlie) & he passed suddenly. SRV wrote this song for him. Its a show stopper. ❤ Thanks as always, I love your reactions!

Day and night , but his live shows- Oh Man they were thrilling, hundreds of us under his spell, when he played soft no one spoke a word. Seeing him live was out of body experience. I have seen him when he was wasted and sober. Phenomenal either way. Never the same solo.
Lenny by SRV is one of my favorites. Its one of the most beautiful songs ever written on guitar. You dont even realize that he still shreds on it.

I was living in Austin, Texas in the ‘80s, where he was also living, and got to see him and his brother play many times. His brother Jimmie is 4 years older, and I’d seen him play before I’d ever heard of Stevie. There’s a show from Nashville where Stevie plays “Voodoo Child” behind his back. Everything from El Mocambo is good. I like some of those old early songs. “Testify” is a showcase, “Mary Had a Little Lamb” is essential, and “Little Wing” live might be the greatest thing he ever did. Thanks!
The performance in Nashville was part of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telephon that air across the nation and maybe further.

It’s still one of the best things I ever seen.
My first time to your channel. I stopped because it was Stevie and had to watch you get baptized in hisTexas Flood waters. You'd never know it by watching his monster performances, but Stevie had a heart as pure as his blues and was as humble as it gets. It’s the fastest guitar switch in history due to a broken string and he never misses a beat. Also, I mentioned Joe Bonamassa. He’s def worth your time. Start with “I’ll Play the Blues for you” and “Going Down”, Live at the Greek. Take your pick from there. He could play the phone book and fill a stadium doing it. Reese Wynans now plays keys for Joe, but used to play for SRV.✌🏻

The story goes, Stevie used to borrow guitars from a guitar store in Dallas (because that's how good everyone knew he was) After trying out a few the day he tried this old beat up 63' strat. Many had tried it, but no one could keep it in tune. He borrowed it, and he never took it back. It was also known that Stevie had powerful hands, and much of his sound came from his hands. His guitar was an extension of his soul.
This was shot in 83'.
Growing up in Texas with Stevie Ray Vaughan, getting to see the man live in both Houston and Austin it was always too much to explain to some people how incredible he was. As the TH-cam reacters went crazy a few years ago they were amazed at what the man could do to a guitar. My opinion was of course, there was no better Blues player at the time and it's doubtful there will be another in my lifetime. The oddest way to think about it is that no matter what stage you see SRV tearing it up on, it was just another show for him. He did this every single time he took the stage, right along with one of the best bands every to keep a tight line for a fantastic bluesman.
All live stuff is all you should listen too. Albert king and Stevie ray vaughn are a must in studio live, also, Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland!
He's the baby brother of another Texas legend. Jimmie Vaughn and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. A number of videos out there of the playing together.

Notice that the two cameras are perfectly positioned - because they'd become familiar with this movie. It practiced and rehearsed - and thank goodness for their camera work!
SRV was one of a kind. He is the only guitarist I know of that made legendary guitarists like Eric Clapton cringe when they had to follow him on stage. It's like he plugged the guitar into his soul...When you saw Voodoo Chile with Black Pegasus, I knew it was only a matter of time. Thanks for the reaction and the respect to SRV.

There are so many amazing guitarists but this is a good start...
He is one of the best ever., sadly he passed away way to early in life like alot of talented people, but left us with some amazing music.. That face he making in America is called THE STANK FACE, that is when you feel what your playing
I just got finished watching 14 yr old guitar phenom Taj Farrant doing a 2 hour SRV tribute in Texas. I love the respect and my God how amazingly he played and sang this song. We have our memories of the great SRV. He was just incredible! I love seeing a kid with the heart and skills coming up in the music world and blowing people away! The future is fantastic for the blues!

What you said about with the first minute, first 5 seconds got my attention cause I always explained to my daughters from way back is that a song has to grab me within first 3 notes! Stevie had us hypnotized when he’d play especially more so with the slow ones where he’d come and sit on stage so he’s right here! I was in my groove then decided to look back at the rest of the crowd and yes, hypnotized is what they were, in awe, jaw dropped. Mesmerizing. Not only is he playing mean lead but he’s doing rhythm too!
I love watching people react to Stevie. I really love when they react to this video. And I really really love to see their reaction when Stevie throws the guitar behind his back and plays lol.

The amazing part to me, is how well Double Trouble stayed with him the whole time he was improvising the solo. They were that tight as a trio.

There are a lot of great guitarists... and then there is SRV. This dude was seriously on another planet
First things first, SRV burst onto the scene in the early 80's. I am 63 years "young" and have been to hundreds of concerts. I live in NYC, so it was easy. My then husband and our friends were die hard blues fans and LOVED SRV!!! We saw him three times, and yes, I saw him play that very guitar. He is considered by many to be the GOAT of guitarists. Had Jimi Hendrix lived, it wouldn't have been that way. He got clean and sober only to die in a helicopter crash 4 years after. The world lost a great guitarist and a humble man, R,I.P SRV!

I was. lucky enough to see him live on his last tour...it was mesmerizing. After the show my buddy and I sat there after the show in silence, well aware of the magic we had just witnessed. Glad you're enjoyed it!

And in general, the studio versions are great, but Stevie is always best experienced live. He never played any song the same way twice, so it's great that so many of his and Double Trouble's live performances are up on TH-cam now, for all to enjoy. (Sadly he died in a helicopter crash in 1990.) Listen to as many different ones as you can and pick your favourites. 😊❤
Speaking of worn guitars…check out Willie Nelson playing on ‘Trigger’ (guitar’s name). At his 90th birthday party concert recently it has even more holes! Still sounds great! You can see it well when he’s singing ‘Roll Me Up and Smoke Me’ with Snoop Dogg.

Great reaction!! SRV ALWAYS gave 150% in every performance Another one to check out is “Ain’t gone’n’ give up on love” 3/25/87. There are several versions of this particular song on TH-cam but the one on 3/25/87 is in my opinion the best because it has the most extended guitar work of all of the others. Don’t get me wrong they are all great but this one just has a lot extra. Also, his version of voodoo Child live in Tokyo is unbelievable. Glad you’re going down the SRV road you won’t regret it. PS I subscribed to your channel.
I saw SRV 3X. 2 times were mind blowing but 1X he was so fucked up it was awful… actually walked out after 1 1/2 hours when he started fucking his amp.

SRV, Texas Flood, at El Mocambo is the greatest live electric blues performance recorded on video ever.
Was lucky enough to see him at the Wax Museum, a smaller venue in DC, with my now deceased husband who was a huge Stevie Ray fan. You couldn't take your eyes off of him. Quite a talent lost too soon.
If you look at the small venues he was playing you weep for the masses that never got to see him live, Those that had, cried when his plane went down...he is one of those FOUND after he passed....
AS A 5TH GENERATION NATIVE TEXAN I HAD ALL OF SRV CD,S AND VIDEOS AND TO WATCH HIM PLAY STILL TODAY IS AWESOME, IN
TIN PAN ALLEY WITH JOHNNY COPELAND HE PLAYS THAT AX LIKE A HARP, IF I DIDN'T KNOW BETTER YA WOULD THINK HE WAS BORN WITH IT, AND THIS GITUAR, WITH THOSE 13 GUAGE STRINGS HAD TO NEW FRETS AND THE NECK REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES.
YOU WILL GET TO WHERE YOU CAN'T TURN IT OFF AND PLAY A SONG, WORK OF ART OVER AND OVER AND ASK YOURSELF HOW CAN HE DO THAT .

That Strat has quite the history. Legend has it that it was bought already well used in the 70's and Stevie loved the feel as the neck was the shape he preferred. After having for awhile he was working on it and noticed the tag that was between the body and neck that showed who produced or inspected it. It listed LF1. That would indicate it was put together by Leo Fender, owner of the company. Likely from parts leftover as the body and neck are from different years.
The guitar behind the back gets everyone's attention. But what amazes me is a bunch of guys just walked up on a stage and performed completely live and it's that damn good. Do you realize how albums output from hours of recording don't come anywhere close to this. It truly blows my mind.🤯🤯

I grew up in the 80-90s in TEXAS listening to this man!
One of the great things about SRV is that if you aren't specifically familiar with each recording you can add studio and live versions to the playlist and won't necessarily be able to pick out which is which. Not because he manages to recreate the studio version perfectly each time live (as some bands do), but because even the studio version sounds like someone laying it all out live. You get all of him every time.
Cant help tearing up every time I hear SRV. 1st heard from a mate who had his vinyls in the 80s in Wellington NZ. I also worked at a pub called the Greta Point Tavern, one of the guys there told me his sister was Stevies girlfriend! This was 1986.

This man was an inspiration. Lived life by the drop and drug, then got clean, but unfortunately died shortly after in a helicopter crash on his was to a concert. He played with Gauge 13 strings which are the heaviest and thickest strings you can put on a guitar. Many stories of him losing skin, fingernails stuff like that while playing.
VooDoo Child Live from Nashville's show is one of the best with behind the back playing IMPO. He really shows out, LOL!!! As far as the El Mocambo show, I enjoy watching him doing "Little Wing". One of the last interviews I seen from him has left me in a state of limbo so to speak ... he said he was going to do something different such as not trying to see how fast he could play. Would have loved to see/hear what he had in mind. His song "Riveria Paradise" could have been a prelude to his evolving interests. A video you may enjoy is of SRV and his brother Jimmie ( an artist in his own right) doing their tune "Pipeline" on a dual guitar together.
