I am a mute from vrchat, I suffer from social anxiety and even though I don't talk that much I still enjoy being with people, life gets lonely when you are a mute but hearing people and just listening to them can improve my day
I try to talk to mute people, well everyone on vrchat who wants to have a conversation that is not annoying little kids, I have met a few mute people and just with their gestures I get them, still ge nice to talk but everyone has their reasons
I have a friend who is selective mute and because of him I’ve started to learn some vrchat asl and my main avatar is made for asl in case I do come across someone who is deaf or mute
Really good video~ I've been a mute in VRChat for over 4 years now, and you can feel disconnected at times from things, but you can still have a blast and get involved with lots of things too as a mute ^~^ such an amazing game
RYAN! It's been so long since I've seen that name back in the days with Nagz and I loved seeing you. After playing the game for 5 years and going from Mute to Unmute several times and learning sign, It is true you can have an amazing time without saying a single word. Some people who don't say anything are the most expressive of them all.
We ran into a mute that wanted to play cards against humanity with us so we read there cards on there turn, it was pretty fun and hopefully they felt comfortable
A couple of my friends on Vrchat are actual IRL Mutes and so I began learning sign language and just knowing the alphabet you can already get so far. Being able to communicate to those people through sign language gives them so much joy to see random players taking there time to learn there language. So if you want to start learning sign language I do suggest going the worlds listed in the video because they are the best and most used ones. Go out there and have some fun and keep learning new things ! :3
I have met a few mutes over my relatively short time playing VRChat. I even have a couple in my friends list. At first i found it hard to communicate with them and sometimes that is still the case. However I have big respect for the mutes. Behind ever avatar in VRC is a person. That person is unique in their own way. And if they are mute than there is nothing wrong with that. VRC is a place where everyone can be who they want to be.
i'm a mute in vrchat most of the time, at first just because of social anxiety, but now i just legitimately enjoy the challenges and experience of communicating nonverbally and with my body. but my avatar also has four face textures i can swap between whenever so that helps a lot too.
It's fantastic that you can learn sign language through VRChat and in a community setting. Long ago when VR was fresh and the original Rift was the latest and greatest; I never imagined how useful VR would be, many people just saw it as a gimmick but now it's clearly more than just entertainment.
I absolutely LOVED seeing you make a video on this! When I play VRChat, it's usually late at night and I have to stay quiet, so I've been slowly learning ASL! It's not much really, but I can say "hi" and "how are you" to others and have made some good friends because of it :3
It's really heart warming to see how vr brings so many people together. I've only had it for a month or two and it has helped me greatly with my depression and anxiety. Although I will admit sometimes it adds stress. The good outweighs the bad tho.
One of my most recent friends, but has quickly became a great almost best friend was a mute. Mute players are some of my favorite players in VRC. I love learning how to communicate with them and a bit of the mystery they carry with them.
I'm not mute in IRL but in games, I like to be mute at times. this video really gives an understanding of people who wish not to talk. I meet a lot like this! sometimes it's best to take their time to warm up or to learn another way to communicate!
Body language and touch are the most powerful forms of communication imo. You can say alot more then most people trying to speak with words can if you're skilled at it. Imo, it's an art form. ^^
@@iiReTr0Z I never said it was easy. gestures are a small portion of it btw. that's not communicating with body language. your touch, your stance, your subtle movements, all speak volumes, and convey intent.
@@NixyVR i was responding to the part where you said its a powerful form of communication. i don't think thats true, because trying to explain the simplest things using your body is hard. although if you can do it then hats off to you because thats really something amazing.
this is why VRchat can never be replaced its so established its a place of practically no rules but with rules that are unspoken it has communites like the helping hands community its so amazing and funny that theres sign language classes and worlds dedicated to the mutes the reason why Metaverse will fail? it will never be like VRchat it will be too restrictive and no creativity.
thank you for making this video! for a long time i was self conscious about being a mute and constantly got told "vr chat is a social game and the whole point of the game is to talk so why even play if you're not going to" it put me off the game for some time.. the small speech you did near the end about how its okay to not talk if thats how you want to play and how you can still have a fulfilling time ingame and make friends whilst being mute made me smile a lot. I had no idea people taught sign language in vr but that's such a cool idea and i think ill stop by those worlds to learn some stuff if i can :]
i always get excluded from certain things and whenever i join my friends in vr games they often leave because they know i wont speak, i get ignored around 90% of the time, howver 10% i get treated as if im very cared for, i get a lot of attention and people speak for me, i think its an amazing thing seeing conversations youre in from an outsiders perspective, thats what being mute is.
very interesting video. when i first heared of mutes i was thinking about playing vrchat because of severe social anxiety. didnt go outside or speak with someone for around 10 years. and vrchat seems to help a lot of people. i also didnt know that you have to get diagnosed with mutism. i thought mutes are either anxious or want to stay gender neutral. so thx again. learned a lot
Thank you for clearing up what "mute" means in VRChat. I recently started playing and have met a lot of "mute" players. They're all really cool even though im horribe at talking 😅
i love the idea of bringing sign to vrchat to help those who dont talk, or those who are totally mute so much but just remember outside of learning through vrchat though if you do have an interest in learning any form of sign language to learn from someone who is deaf and not hearing
I know American Sign Language since I went to a special education school, however when I learned to talk with speech therapy and got into mainstream school where everyone talks all the time and no sign language, the only ones I see signs everyday are my interpreters but it's not the same with friends (my friends are either far away or went to college in a different state), I see my friends on social media but it's all text based/pictures. Im glad i found the sign community in VRChat. just another way for you to actually communicate if u cant hear or speak (by choice or not practical). sometimes i rather just sign because with sign language ur body language does play a big part to get ur point across and when ppl sound so "dead" inside this game, it just doesnt make it fun sometimes

I have selective mutism!! I'm working hard to try and become more comfortable with speaking in public spaces, and vr is really helping me with this. :>
Now that is nice video. Have not seen this video earlier, and i am creator of Sign&Fun. I helped deaf community since 2019 and my world was popular in old times. We have still to work at videos, and many videos need updated too because sign language is living language, changes over time. Stay mute has many reasons. Part is also due your voice and background, so you don't want others hear who you are. Can exposes your identity a bit by guessing gender and age, and accent will tell where you might come from. Social anxiety is another point, VRChat is good to learn to speak with others as therapy. And still we have some big streamers on Twitch which are still mute. So yeah it's possible. But as mute in VRChat, that is kinda hard to go around. Sign language is good solution because it's faster than TTS or keyboard / pencils. If you wish don't speak, go learn sign language! Respecting to have some look at deaf community and my world. My world is updated often and in future i want redesign world again to make it more comfy place.
Tried joining the HH discord, and as soon as I was asked by the bot to put a short introduction my social anxiety got the better of me and I left Was in the server a total of 3 minutes before I got scared and left

Hey twice I know this is off topic. But remember the avatar you were wearing in your FBT video? I’ve been wondering where to get that avatar. Sorry if this bothers you!
