Because I don’t trust youtube that much because they can shutdown at anytime or they can demobilize and delete channels that don’t fit with there globalist masters agenda and plus your videos are very cool and informative, in my opinion it would be a lose to this country if something where to happen to your channel.

    My dad was a LRRP in 68-69. When I was a kid he’d always scold me for moving too loudly when we were in the woods hunting lol We weren’t talking, moving slow and deliberately. I thought we were silent, but I guess when your life’s on the line you get a whole new perspective on what silent is.

    For those wondering: The LRRP’s (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrols) were primarily trained for deep insertion behind enemy lines to do reconnaissance and surveil the enemy. Something that was quite amusing to them was how the Vietnamese had no idea that the LRRP’s were there. Some LRRP units would report watching an entire battalion walk by never even knowing they were being watched. With the intel they gained they were able to report enemy troop movements to nearby troops and call in air strikes. In 1969 the LRRP’s were reorganized as Rangers and absorbed into the 75th Infantry Battalion (Ranger) which would later become the 75th Ranger Regiment. When they became Rangers the new mission was to actively attack the enemy even more than before. The teams continued this campaign ambushing the Vietnamese continuously. To the point the Vietnamese had an open bounty if a LRRP was ever captured alive. Though many miscredit this nickname to the US Navy SEAL’s the term “the men with painted faces” was actually a term given to the LRRP’s by the locals.

      First, to avoid being considered a troll, I'd like to say that I really like watching this channel's instructional videos !!
      That having been said, I couldn't figure out why a lerp team with only 3 guys (which is actually the proper number), would engage with the enemy in a firefight ??
      The second "R" in L.R.R.P. stands for reconnaissance, so getting into a shootout is counter productive to the mission's overall main objective. The small arms carried were for defense, in breaking contact, not actively engaging the enemy, who almost invariably had superior troop strength...
      Recon was needed to call in airstrikes, and arrange for ambushes by larger groups of friendlies, not attempted suicide...
      I'm glad to see that somebody else here actually also knows the details of managing a war from the higher officer strategical standpoint, not just bread & butter small unit tactical...
      It was fun watching though !!!
      One of the better TH-cam channels available !!!

    • @Collateral0
      @Collateral0 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Jeff Thompson LRRP’s began doing ambush missions after being converted into Rangers. Basically they would set up ambushes. Like setting mines on trails to ambush the enemy. But early LRRP units mainly did reconnaissance.

    Cool video, man. Love your stuff.
    Reminds me of what one of the French commanders at Dien Bien Phu said in 1954, when they were defeated by the Vietnamese. The French had some former German Army and SS soldiers under their command at the battle, and one of the commanders said, "We had the finest soldiers in the world under our command there, and we were beaten. If we were unable to win, there is no way you Americans can.'"
    Pointless conflict, but I love stuff like this since it makes you think about which wars do and do not need to be fought. Keep it up, man!

    • @kennethh5657
      @kennethh5657 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Cactus not quite understanding what you are saying. I know the army switched from 7.62x51 to 5.56 in order to save weight.
      Two reasons for the switch actually.
      First. the army did a study and found it took a average amount of rounds per enamy killed(I think it was 12-18) and figured by increasing the amount of avalibile ammo on the soldiers it would increase the KD ratio.
      Second. The army realized that it was coming down to who ran out of ammo first that decided a lot of battles. If memory serves me correctly the army figured the average person fired a round every 1.5-2 seconds. This ment one mag of 7.62 would last something like 30-45 seconds and a combat loadout would last something like 7-8 min of sustained combat. Whoever ran out first would either be killed, captured, or have to run. So the point was to increase how long the average soldier could be combat effective. Basically out last the enamy. Switching to 5.56 increased the combat time to like 12-16min for the same amount of weight.
      On a side note. The Vietcong were using 30rd mags while our soldiers were using 20rd mags. This allowed the enamy to advance further without reloading. This is why we finally adopted a 30rd mag. I believe the 20rd was kept initially because it artificially kept a GI from blowing through his ammo too quickly and because it was a normal size mag. I could be wrong on this though. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Going to post it at the top of comments the best books I’ve ever read on SOG.....”ACROSS THE FENCE” & “ ON THE GROUND” both by a SOG team member “team Idaho “ John Stryker Meyer. it left me spell bound. A genuine page turner. It got so intense I had to put the book down and take a rest. This was an embarrassment to those who actually carried out the patrols. I was 19 in 1988 when the USAF sent me to the Philippines, and it was one of our favorite shows. We would watch it on Filipino TV in English, every Monday night that I wasn't on duty. I was Security Police, and it felt like we were living a bit of the show. We were driving M-151s, and carrying Vietnam era M-16s, M-60s, and occasionally XM-148s.

      @@Brent0331 your point is well taken and comment was maybe not worded the best. I have nothing but respect for marine infantry. Back in the late 70's we jumped into Camp Lejeune for mouts training. I was an M60 gunner at the time. Well I let about a 10 round burst loose a little bit to close to one marines face. We wore steel pots in those days and he jumped up and buttstroked me up side that steel pot! Let me tell you brother that rang my f°ckin bell!!🤪

The retaining pin wiggled out of the trigger group on my M240G while conducting a night shoot off the back of a ship while we were at sea. Lets just say I had a little run away gun action that night. My golf coach at NMMI was a LRRP. The only thing that he discussed was a crazy EOD story. They had a mortar land right in the middle of their patrol and it didn't explode. They backed off a couple hundred yards and called EOD. They showed up in a beat up Ford truck, picked it up, looked at it, chucked it in the back of their truck and drove off. Balls of freaking steel.
