I recently did a similar job to the exhaust hanger brackets on my 82 - welded on reinforcements, sandblasted, coated etc. Several hours later, should have just bought reconditioned ones from Midwest Bayless...
Those old exhaust brackets are rusty and falling apart from fatigue. I'd toss 'em. You can buy BOTH brackets factory NOS for $100 and they even have zinc plating cause : FAC-TREE haha.
I like short-term and longer projects both. Glad you fixed that squeak. Good job on the muffler rebuild, sssst ssssst- à la VGG.
