    Good easy way to follow what Gasification does and how we can use it to make clean coal products.

      Actually I am working the implementation of commercially proven technology to recover municipal solid waste (blending some coal or petcoke to improve the heating value to produce pure hydrogen for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles. The balance of MSW produced in a metropolitan area assuming 1 kg per person per day converted to Hydrogen by gasification WS and PSA would provide adequate fuel for the private vehicles registered in the same metropolitan area.
      wish me luck

    Just a simplified PSA for grade school level knowledge. Any wood gasifier setup can convert over yard waste and wood into syngas/ woodgas. That is at least carbon neutral using renewable sources instead of mined sources. The syngas can be used to run a car or generator, which will lower the carbon footprint from coal and oil. I just gave you some search terms- go forth and learn.

    And there's another thing! What I cannot understand among all these wood gas enthusiasts is why nobody has tried turning the stuff into gasoline! Its actually not that difficult. The Fischer - Tropsch process need a pressure of around 5 atmospheres (car tyre pressure plus a bit), and a temperature of 300 degrees centigrade. As feedstock it needs carbon monoxide which is what woodgas is mostly composed of. Discuss please

    • @astr0creep6x6x6

      Indeed. No one wants to lead the WORLD on by implying that hydrocarbon fuels are "Green" and constantly forming in a natural earth cycle that is under both extreme pressures and high temperatures. I think we used to call it "abiogenic" oil production. Nature's way of concentrating energy.

    • @leeknivek

    Is this technology more expensive compare to coal energy plants in maintenance or requires costly investment in building these facilities.

    • @waleed2008smith
      @waleed2008smith 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. Unless you want to eliminate the ash and emissions from incineration gasification to produce electricity is much more expensive. However if you want zero emissions and zero ash Waste to Chemicals W2C will provide attractive returns for investment in large scale waste recovery systems.
      My estimates are it will cost $1000 per annual ton of waste to build a high temperature gasification system and the full production cost would be in the range of US$ 4 to 6 for a kg of pure Hydrogen. HTR gasification also produces byproducts from the trace and mineral and metal elements in the waste. New patents to produce rock wool from waste mineral components would absorb much of the operating and depreciation cost bringing the Hydrogen cost below US$4 per kg. US$4 /kg is the DOE target for US hydrogen production.

    The process needs to use biomass today but wastes material to deliver heat. Further some oxygen is present.
    I would like to see smaller insulated reactors, heated by micro waves and with added hydrogen carrier and in oxygen free conditions. We would get a lighter fuel mixture but it would make the process even carbon negative if as last step some bio char could be formed. ( not returning in carbon cycle)
    Yes, yes, I know it's infinitely easier to say this than to build one myself.

      The only commercially proven system is Thermoselect the latest generation operates on 15 mj/kg waste quality at 13.667 metric tons per hour or 15 tons per hour at 10 mj/kg waste quality. Lower heating value produces more CO2 and lower energy syngas.

    • @waleed2008smith
      @waleed2008smith 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MN - Gasification will occur when organic material is elevated to 800 degrees C. At 800 degrees C when most compounds decompose but carbon and some compounds compounds will not break down at these temperatures. HT gasification increases vessel temperature to 1200 and in some parts 1600 degrees C to melt stone and meta. Water, which becomes steam inside the gasifier has the capability of converting carbon into pure hydrogen and CO2.
      This is why water is important in the gasifier.

      "cleaner" would be a better word. For instance the jet fuel is cleaner when made from coal. Ultimately you can get kinda nit picky about clean and cleaner though considering wind turbines, for instance, are created using literally tons of coal and gasoline. So is that wind turbine totally clean? No but it is 100x or so more clean than just using coal.

    • @waleed2008smith

      Public understanding of gasification is not at a good leve. Most people confuse pyrolyzation with true clean high temperature gasification which captures 100% of all elements in waste as marketable products.
      For the system described above the percent of CO2 included in the synthesis gas ranges from 18% to 40% depending on the heating value of the waste. The only commercially proven high temperature gasification system has a guaranteed operating range for waste feedstock heating value of 10 to 15 mj/kg. at lower heating value the CO2 content of the synthesis gas exceeds 40%. At 15 mj/kg the CO2 contend is reduced to 18%. The system may be capable of operating at 18 mj/kg but there is no empirical information to prove the CO2 content will fall below 15%.
      To produce Hydrogen which is the basic building block for many petrochemical processes is produced by a standard petrochemical process called water shift which converts the CO in the syngas to H2 and CO2 increasing the amount of CO2 produced. The H2 and CO2 is separated one technology for this purpose is Pressure Shift Analysis which can produce 99% pure H2 and 95% pure CO2. In this process the CO2 is captured and ready for commercial use or sequestration.
