🎂 Happy 6th BookTube Birthday, Simon! You've inspired me to read Song of Achilles and The Miniaturist, which I finished and enjoyed them both immensely. I have The Island of Missing Trees and The Bread The Devil Knead waiting to be read and Hamnet on the way. I expect to enjoy them all. Just keep being yourself, Simon, I love you just as you are! 💜
Happy Booktube Birthday my friend. I read Stay With Me and Tin Man because of you and have signed copies because of your kindness! I adore both of them. Girl Woman Other is a masterpiece. So many great moments. And having inspired so many of us over the years. I am often jealous of your amazing bookish life. Here is too many more years.
Hahaha. Don’t be jealous. The exhaustion is REAL. Though it’s lovely that books have become so much of my life of course. Ha. Let’s hope we do another collab within the next six years.
You and Eric Karl Anderson were the first two booktubers I started following, and I continue to enjoy you both. I think Hamnet and The Prophets were two books I read because you had great things to say about them, and they fall into my favourite books of the past 5 years. I have also enjoyed your videos with your mum and pleased to see Louise with her own booktube channel. And I really enjoy your vlogs of you getting out and about. As I'm on the other side of the world it has been like I've been travelling vicariously through you, especially over the past couple of years when we've been unable to travel. Wishing you many more years of booktube xx
Glad you are still enjoying the channel. Phew. How fab two of my favourites have become two of your favourites of the last five years. That’s brill. Delighted you can fit into my travel bag so I can take you all these places. Ha.
🎂 Thanks for bringing Still Life into my life I shall be forever grateful and for also introducing me to booktube as a general concept as I started following you first because you popped up on the Booker prize thing and something else more mainstream I can't quite remember now. I don't have many bookish friends so it has been nice to find such a warm group of people who treat reading serious pleasure if you aee what I mean 😊 I am especially grateful to booktube during difficult times mentally as it is a way of connecting with people you choose to connect with yes but also with the added advantage of no pressure or obligation. I know I can find a friendly face somewhere on booktube whatever the emotional weather.
Glad I inducted/introduced you to BookTube. Isn’t it a lovely place to be. I did indeed do the Booker Prize BBC show, I can’t think what the other thing was.
Happy 6 year anniversary Simon🎉. You are the first BookTuber I found… autumn 2019. Your channel was a huge part of my pandemic routine. Books I’ve read (I’ve loved them all) because of you: Hammett, Tin Man, Still Life, Grown Ups, In The End It Was All About Love, How Much of These Hills is Gold. Still Life was my favorite book last year, made me so happy.😊 Thank you for sharing your love of books, places, authors and reading with us🥂🥂🥂
You might not see this since this is from a couple of years ago, but I just want to say how grateful I am to have found you on here. You have made me love books (again) so deeply and introduced me to so many incredible authors and stories, so I just wanted to say thank you in return 🫶 I go back and watch your videos when I need to be in a familiar and comforting company (why I’m here now, lol), and I’m just so happy you’re still here even with all the incredible things you are doing and have achieved outside of yt. Akwaeke Emezi, Sjón, Sarah Winman and Mike Parker are just a few of the authors I’ve found through your recs. I’m sure I’ll think of more in a bit… Loved this vid. 🎂
Thank you for all your hard work! And the joy! I’m so grateful you introduced me to Elif Shafak. As I’ve said before, you re-ignited my love of books - and I now have a bookstagram account and review books! Book people are such lovely people! So happy 6th birthday 🎂 and here’s to many more years!
Congratulations on your 6yr anniversary. Some of my favourite videos are with you and your Mum. I also love your out and about videos in the UK. I've added so many books to my list because of your videos. Many of which I still need to read. I found Booktube at the beginning of the panda-pop. I watched your entire backlist of videos during the lockdowns when I had to continue working in a very stressful/pretty horrible job. Those videos helped distract me. Thank you. Keep being you. Wishing you all the best for many more years ahead.
🎂!!!!! You have single handedly make my TBR miles long! Favorite reads thus far, Hamnet and A Still Life. Thank you for your wonderful inspirations, and hope you have many more years on TH-cam! xoxo
There are several books I’ve discovered, loved and adored thanks to your videos (whether hauls or wrap-ups), and the ones that come to mind right away are: Love After Love, The Prophets, This One Sky Day and The Mermaid of Black Conch ❤️📚. Happy 6th Booktube anniversary, Simon! I’ve loved being on this journey with you during the past couple of years 🎂🥳!
🎂Congratulations Simon. It has been a pleasure watching you over the years. You are the 1st book tubers I have ever followed. My favourite videos are your vlogs & anything with your Mum. It is such a delight to see you together talking bookish adventures. Books I've read because of you & ❤️ are: The Essex Serpent, Tin Man & Hamnet. I am sure there are more & you sure have influenced my book buying over the years. I also have a mini library too. Keep vlogging & just being you 🤩🎉👐😻💖Thanks for sharing your passion of books with us all 🐻 📚 🌟 ❤️
Happy Book Tube Birthday! Your videos bring me such joy. My favorites tend to be your vlogs. It's so fun to see behind the scenes moments with Chris and to tag along with you on your travels. The first book that came to mind that I wouldn't have read had you not gushed about it is Still Life. I'm in the process of reading it now and am loving it! 🎂
Glad you enjoy the vlogs. Weirdly, or not maybe, they’re the lowest watched videos. Not sure why that is. I love making them and the editing is a challenge which I enjoy too. Hope you enjoy Still Life.
🎂 my favourite video was probably the 30 books in your first 5 years as that was the first video I watched of yours and I've been hooked ever since! Congratulations on 6 years! 🎊🎊🎊
Happy 6th BookTube birthday Simon!!!! I'm not sure exactly how I ended up seeing you for the first time, but OH! how the algorithms smiled on me that day! I adore your channel and content, I never miss a video, and thanks to you I have read some of my favourite books of all time! As someone who lives in Canada, I especially enjoy your vlogs, and getting to "come along" on your travels (be it to Italy, or the local shops), and of course anytime you post your chat videos (especially with your mum)!.I will say, that The Prophets is one of the best books I've ever read, and came to me by your recommendation. So, thanks for that, and thanks also for introducing me to so many other great content creators!! Grace, Lauren, Jen Campbell, and Brittney, are all faves that I found because you pointed me in their direction. Hope to be here celebrating another 6 years with you!
That’s such a lovely thing to hear… that I’ve not only sent you to lovely books but also lovely people. That’s brilliant. Do check out some of the newer ones I keep wanging on about like CJ etc etc.
Congratulations on 6 awesome years, Simon! What a fun retrospective and glimpse into your future plans. (I do you think you are one of the most diverse readers I know, to be honest.) Your channel is one of my favorites and I've discovered so many great books and authors because of you. And yes, a podcast would be lovely (miss The Readers!) although I can't imagine how you would have time! Here's to the next 6 years and the next 6 and the next....
Awwww thank you so much Melissa. Glad you enjoyed the video. I might find time for a podcast if I get contracted to do one… which might not be far from reality. Though don’t want to jinx it.
Congrats on your anniversary! 🎂 I don't comment often but I've watched you for about 4 years and I have always enjoyed watching you. I love your enthusiasm for the books and authors you love. It has been wonderful watching your career changes and the other opportunities you have had. I have most enjoyed seeing your family on the channel, including your mom, siblings, and Chris.
Thank you for commenting this time Laurie. It’s lovely to hear from as many of you as possible. I’ve tried to make it a family affair… I mean my mum has her own channel now after all. Haha.
🎂happy booktube birthday!!!! I’ve read some amazing books because of you. My absolute favourite - island of missing trees it’s so beautiful. I’ve just got you made a fool of death with your beauty because of you so can’t wait to get into that. I love all the content you produce and love a double entendres - especially your face when you realise 🫢Just please be yourself you’re a joy to watch and I can’t imagine anyone getting upset with you being you 💜
I don’t think people would really be upset, though that said people get upset if I get my shoulders out on Instagram so you never know. Hahaha. I think it’s just that in real life it takes me a while to be myself… and online takes me even longer. Haha.
Congratulations!!! Your channel helped me and so many other book lovers through the lockdowns. My two favourite recommendations were My Life as a Unicorn and The Paper Palace. I enjoy seeing what you're reading and why. I particularly love the Women's prize reading. Thank you - can't wait to see you back on the telly 🎂
🎂🎂🎂 Happy 6th book tube birthday Simon! You have recommended many books that I have read but the most memorable one that I had not heard of at the time was Tin Man. Hard to choose a video as enjoy them all. Will end by saying it’s important we all feel we can be ourselves…and I will not be unsubscribing if I hear a few swear words🤪 Here’s to the next 6 years
Happy Booktube Birthday! Thank you for all the content you create on here, I've been subscribed for about 3 years now and have picked up loads of books on your recommendation that I have loved - including The Prophets and Monique Roffey The Mermaid of Black Conch. My favourite videos of yours are the vlogs :) 🎂📽
Ooh you’ll have a new vlog coming next week. Well the week after this. I was going to do one this weekend but I’ve just been chilling with the invalid.
I didn't realize quite how much you have influenced some of my reading! I have read Stay with Me and Hamnet (loved it!). I'm in the process of reading Girl, Woman, Other on my Kindle and Still Life is on my to be read shelf, maybe it will be the next one I pick up. 🙂 Happy 6 years 🎂 I can't wait to see what you have coming up!
We definitely are spoiled by the quality and consistency of your sharing your bookish life, thank you for the wonderful years. And more importantly for sharing your mum 😁 I've read loads of stuff because of you so I'll one up the question and say I recommended From the Wreck for a challenge prompt and 3 people read and enjoyed it, I think you've really carried that book to an audience.
Ha. I don’t see it as sharing mum weirdly. It’s just documenting our time and reading together. And now she’s off out on her own. Hahaha. So pleased you enjoyed From The Wreck. I’m looking forward to Jane’s new book.
Happy BookTube Birthday! I discovered Tin Man because of you, which is now one of my all time faves! I also read Everything I Never Told You because of one of your Crime Times with Pip, which is another favourite book of mine.
Love your videos. Added some books to my tbr. Thank you for entertaining us and keeping some of us going. My depression and OCD has been bad and you've gave me a chuckle. Keep doing what you love. You should be proud of your achievements. You are a brilliant book tuber. Happy reading. 🤓 Happy book tube birthday. 🎂🎉
🎂. Became a SavidgeReads groupie 3 years ago and thank you 🙏. I love your chatty videos, with plenty of the double entendre and love the vlogs. Of course, video with your Mum are fab. You have encouraged me to read outside my normal genres.....I read Still Life and think it is one of the best books I have read.
Hahaha. Savidge Reads groupie. That’s tickled me. It’s so lovely to hear I have got you reading outside your usual genres. I’m hoping to read more outside of mine and take you along with me.
🎂🎂🎂🎂 My fave videos are any with you and Louise, especially women's prize ones ❤️ I recently read Still Life because of your recommendation and Cresi is now my favourite fictional character of all time! Congrats on all you have achieved 🎉🎉
I have enjoyed a lot of your book hauls and reviews. Some of my favorite videos though are of Chris , your mom and you on outtings. I also enjoy your author event videos.. 6 years ago my mother and I moved into a lousy place we do not really like . We were rushed to find a house so we settled. She likes it a tad. I not so much. But the night we moved in I found your book tube channel. Your videos have helped bring light to this dismal life. Thank you from Indiana USA.
🎂. I read Girl, Woman, Other because of seeing you talk about it on TH-cam. I’ve recommended that book to lots of family and friends, your channel too. I loved those videos where you start with a pile of books balanced on your hand! It’s so exciting to find out what the books are. Thank you and keep up the great work 🙂
🎂 Please keep on keeping on. Here’s to you being you and to another 6 years and more! Thank you. I’ve been here for 3-4 years and read many books you have recommended, but I’d have to say Tin Man. I’ve also just started The Offing. He has just met Dulcie. 😊 Love everything, especially your vlogs and seeing your Mum with you.
Happy BookTube Birthday, Simon! Thank you for all that you do. I haven't been much of a commenter on yt, but I have always appreciated your thoughtfulness when discussing books. I've found so many books through you, and I've been thinking that I need to make a goodreads shelf that cites you so I can remember all the great books you suggest. I think, instead of a book, I'll note that I started reading the Women's Prize because of you (and your mum!). Book prizes aren't as big a thing in Canada, and sometimes not all the books are available here when the prize is on. But I like getting excited about my tbr, and I've worked my way through a lot of last year's list and also this year's list. 🎉🎂🎂🎉 I hope you're having a good rest this weekend, you look like you've been super busy. Keep well!
Thank you for commenting now Kat. It’s lovely to hear from as many of my love or viewers as want to chat. Means a lot. Glad you enjoy the prize coverage. I actually really like the Giller Prize, it can just be really hard to get the books here.
Happy booktube birthday! 🎂 I discovered your channel late last year and have tried to watch some of your back catalogue, but so many videos still to go! I read Rizzio because of you and found out about What's in the Box Mrs Harris even though this is my local book shop (I had no idea!). Your super busy summer will mean you are pushed for time to produce content, but maybe a few shortish Instagram Lives on your travels could take away the stress of editing and prepping? Just a thought. None of us want you to worry or get burn out. Have a great Jubilee bank holiday (s). 💙
Hahaha I think my backlist of videos is proving quite popular while I have this reduced service for a little while. It’s lovely seeing older videos getting comments again. Oh and Instagram lives… I stopped doing them as I found them soooooo stressful, the tech isn’t as stable.
Hello Simon glad to see you on here I agree I absolutely loved The Prophets. Thanks to your recommendations I also adored The Island of Missing trees. I appreciate your videos so much so thank you for being here also Still Life I read thanks to you -birthday cake chuckle: 🎂 🎉
What an earnest and lovely video -- so genuinely delighted to have a cuppa here and enjoying your company. Thanks for being such an "open" book! I read "A Still Life" because of your recommendation and it's easily one of the top books I think I've ever read? Thank you for that!
🎂Happy Sixth BookTube Birthday, Simon!!!🎂🥂🍾I’ve been a subscriber only for half a year or so, and I’ve been enjoying your videos very much. Thank you!🌷My favourites were those about the Women’s Prize and all those you did with Louise. There’s a book you recommended which has become one of the highlights of this year for me: Sarah Winman’s Still Life🦜I also bought it as a present for a friend, and it made me reread A Room with a View. As to future videos, I do hope you’ll be covering the Booker Prize😊📚🎂
I might cover the Booker this year. It depends on the list if I am honest. And timing. But as I’m away a lot it could be just the time to read the longlist… maybe. Haha.
Hi Simon, I credit you getting me properly back into my passion for books around 5 years ago, so will be always thankful. I can only speak for myself but I think I would enjoy unfiltered you even more 💕🎂
🎂 Happy Anniversary!!!! I read Island of Missing Trees because of your recommendation and I am so so glad, incredible. Now I have to trust all your recommendations.
Hahahaha oooh that’s quite a bit of pressure. Maybe give it a couple of books you love that I loved before you trust my thoughts on all the books. Hehehe.
Happy booktube birthday! One of my favourite books I wouldn;t have read if it wasn't for you was Flames by Robbie Arnott. Absolutely loved that book and I hadn't heard anyones else talk about this book before you did.
I’m very excited for his third book coming out this autumn. He’s become an absolute favourite. Well he will after the third book as I have that rule. lol.
🎂 1. Favorite videos in past 6 years: The vlogs. Also love the evolution in the editing with the close-ups, the black and white tangents (love those as well), and all the interesting bookish adventures. 2. What would like to see in the next 6 years: More of the same, but also the mentioned plans with exploring more translated fiction sound great. The bookish and general life adventures, as well as the on the go thoughts as you read books are the most interesting to me. 3. Favorite books read because of SavidgeReads: Probably Hamnet. But I've also discovered Elif Shafak, and read (and loved) several of her books because of the channel, and the Sky Arts Book Club.
What a lovely phrase. The evolution of the edits. Translated fiction is definitely something I want to read a lot more of… and have been and it’s been giving me a buzz.
This was such a lovely video. I can feel the love you have for your experience on youtube. I have truly enjoyed watching you over the years and wish you the best for upcoming years and all the bookish adventures. ,🥳
I love reading books set in the place I am staying. The Red Hill sounds like just one of those for you. Maybe I will have to go there, sounds amazing. Love this video
🎂Hi, Happy 6th You Tube Birthday. Thank you for introducing me to From the Wreck, I loved this book so much and recommend it to everyone, I would never have read this without your recommendation. You have introduced me to so many brilliant books and your channel has been a complete joy in my life, Its wonderful that you have had such amazing experiences because of your channel and your videos with your lovely Mum are so enjoyable. Sending love❤️📚
Sooo favorite videos would be the ones with you and your mom doing the Women’s prize predictions with your sticky notes…love those! Books I have read because of your channel…ooooohhh lots. Two favorites are Hamnet and Grown Ups. 🎉👏
Hip hip hooray, congrats on your Booktube birthday! That rhymes. Anyway, I read Hamnet after seeing your review (5 stars for me) and you certainly put The Prophets on my radar (5 stars as well). After your video on The Island of Missing Trees, a copy is now sitting snugly in my tbr trolley. Hoping to read it within a few months. I also asked a copy of the Rain Heron for my birthday after hearing your review. Still need to read that though. So the book influencing force is strong with this one.
Congratulations 💐 I really enjoy all your videos. I love traveling with you on all your amazing trips and adventures. I am so grateful for you and your channel. The Island of Missing Trees is my favorite book so far this year thanks to you. 😊 I have also read the Mermaid Of Black Conch another favorite.
The happiest of BookTube birthdays to you, Simon. "Tin Man" is a favorite of mine and I never would have found it without your channel. Thank you for introducing me to so may amazing authors and wonderful books, for leading me to other Booktubers, and for reminding me how much I enjoy reading. Congrats to you on all your success and all the best as you embark on year seven.
Congratulations! I have been looking at your former you tube contributions. What a Great effort. You are really appreciated. I am loving the Prophets too.
Happy Happy Booktube- a- versary !!!!🎆 Do you like that??? Thankyou sharing that best laid plans are something that can be changed, forgotten, rewritten, thrown out, pursued, put on the backburner and achieved. I love that you are so honest with how you would like to do projects/ideas and that they are not always possible. The books that you have inspired my to read recently have been The Island of Missing Trees (which I have passed on to all the readers at work) and Violets. Both of which I loved, but it was Violets that caught my heart. I think vignettes are my catnip too. You have also inspired A LOT of book buying, including Hamnet, Still Life (I loved TIn Man), Nightingale Point, The Bread the Devil Knead ....... at the list goes on. Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou
Best laid plans sometimes have to change and that’s ok. I think we forget that sometimes or are worried about changing them when change can be for the best. So pleased you enjoyed Violets.
Happy booktube birthday, Simon! 🎂 To be honest, read quite a few books after hearing you talking about them. Some that come to mind are Hamnet, The Death of Vivek Oji, The Island of Missing Trees and loved them. I still need to get to Girl, Woman, Other 😊 Keep doing what you're doing, always like stopping by your channel and watching your videos 🎉
It's sitting on my shelves now, will definitely pick it up soon. It was always on loan at my library, but decided to go and buy myself a copy instead. I'm sure I will love it 😊
🎉🎉🎂🎂I love your videos with your mother. The chemistry you have is wonderful and that has developed in front of camera over the past few years. Mum has become more relaxed and conversational as she’s developed and gained experienced. I’ve discovered both Elif Shafak and Sarah Winmann (and many others) on your channel. I’m not one of your constant chatters but I’ve been watching for the best part of 4 years I would say. And if I saw you wandering around the Mumbles I would probably be too afraid of annoying you to approach. As much as I’d love to stop for a chat
If you see me in the mumbles you must say hello. I love it when people say hi. It’s ace. Making videos with mum has been lovely. It’s been a delightful part of our relationship and now she’s off making content of her own. Imagine!
🎂 happy booktube birthday Simon!! 🎂 Thank you for your 6 years of wonderful videos ( I've been with you about 3, but often watch back) and thank you for being you!! I have two answers to my favourite video of yours , one is your favourite historical fiction video, I have got so many recommendations from that one. And the second is the womans prize videos with your mum....again SO many recommendations! My book that I have read and loved because of you is Still Life. 🎉
Awwww so pleased you’ve enjoyed the videos with my mum. It seems they are quite popular. Hahaha. I need to read more historical fiction, I used to love it so much. Still Life, oh what a book!
Happy BookTube Anniversary/BirthDay, Simon🎂🎂🎂 I recently read _The Island of Missing Trees_ based on your review and it may very well be my favorite book of all time (I've been reading for 59 yrs!) My parents passed away a couple of years ago, and my Dad grew fig trees in containers in the northern US, and this book just had ALL of the feels and connections for me! Thank you. I don't know what you should do next but I feel sure you will sometimes recommend another book just for me, without your even knowing it. Keep on keepin' on!!!
Oh my goodness. I can totally see why The Island of Missing Trees connected with you so much. It’s such an amazing book. I bought an indoor fig, called E-leaf Shafak, see what I did there, especially.
@@SavidgeReads OH - I love that!!! I hung a "The Happy Fig" sign on the one surviving potted fig of my Dad's that my brother has. We also started some sticks this year from it, in hopes of the sibs getting trees from it. Thanks again, Simon (E-leaf Shafak - teehee)
Happy TH-cam birthday, Simon! 🎂 I wanted to thank you for all the videos. My favourites, well, that is a tough one. The Women’s Prize videos with your Mum are special and fantastic. I love seeing where you agree and disagree. Your interview with Robbie Arnott is up there for me and inspired me to buy Flames and The Rain Heron! And also thank you for the HiBearNation readathons as well. The Autumn one 3-4 years ago was the first BookTube event I ever participated and you commented on my Twitter post which gave me joy. I read Ocean Vuong’s novel because of your review, and Hamnet. Many other book gems along the way. All the best to you Simon and thank you!❤️
Thank YOU for watching and such a lovely comment. So excited for Robbie’s new book. Can’t wait. I’m thinking about how I can do something readathony/readalongy again… let’s see how the summer goes. Ha.
🎂 I’ve read so many books based on your recommendations, but one of my favorites is How Much of These Hills is Gold 💛 I don’t think you could do anything that would make me unsubscribe (unless you were secretly like a murderer or something but I have a good feeling that’s not the case 😉). I don’t know if I can pick a favorite type of video - I love your vlogs, your collaborations with your mum, sorting the shelves, your wrap ups (but no pressure hah). I think it would be really cool to do recommendation videos with some of the librarians you’re getting to work with (but, again, no pressure, I know you’re crazy busy).
I’m so pleased how many of you have read C Pam Zhang. That’s ace. I am planning what videos I can do with librarians this summer so you’re onto something. It’s just how much filming we can do when the four days I’m there will be insanely busy.
Congrats on your 6 years! I call that commitment. The book which stands out for me as your recommendation is Tin Man, so memorable. Very hard to choose a video, maybe the one of Matlock Bath tied with all the footage of cats and going for fish and chips at Parkgate!! As well as the books, of course. I would love to have a weekly 'Book from the Blog' feature as I am a keen backlist reader. Definitely keep on keeping on!!
I haven’t back been to Matlock Bath in soooo long. That needs to change and maybe I’ll take you all with me again. I am hoping to take a lovely author friend to Parkgate for fish and chips next month.
Happy 6th book tube birthday. I love everything about your channel it brings so many people so much joy. Now .. what about a visit to Australia next year. We have the Writers Festival in Sydney in May which I am sure you would love
Hi Simon, I'm not usually a commenter but it felt right to do so today to say congrats & thank you!! I love watching your videos, hearing about what you're reading, and getting a peak into your life all the way from NZ! Looking forward to whatever it is you do next!! 'Tin Man' is a fave I've read after your recommendation - and one I've passed on to others too!
Thank you so much for commenting. I love people commenting and saying hello. It’s always such a lovely thing and makes me feel like I am getting to know this community better and better. I’m hoping to visit NZ when I do my Australia trip. Chris had cousins there.
Happy 6 years and cheers to many more! I love the library in and out videos! I am about to read tin man in June, which I found out first on your channel!
I read the prophets and in the end it was all about love because of how much you enjoyed them! I've enjoyed the blogs and the kind of focus videos where you talk about one b lol in more depth
I would LOVE videos on pre-Booktube reading; I miss The Readers! Still waiting for a Thomas reunion/appearance here🥰Vlogs and catch-ups are my favorite videos, and I know there's been tons of books I picked up because of you but a recent one was Summerwater by Sarah Moss which I loved, listened to the whole thing in a day! Congratulations and here's to many more years!💜
Pre-BookTube videos is definitely a series that I can work on. I would love to see Thomas again, especially with everything that’s going on with him. I’ve been thinking of him and sending lots of thoughts to him.
Definitely the book I read because of you is The Death of Vivek Oji, and wow did that blow my mind so I owe you big just for that one. Not sure I can pick one favorite video. Maybe the one from your first visit with Chris to the site of On the Red Hill? In terms of the next six years, here’s a vote for more of you being yourself and being happy in the content you create, while you create it, because it brings so much happiness to others, myself definitely included. Happy 6th!! 🥳🎂 PS: Sarah Winman is really special!
Happy birthday Simon! You inspired me to read Still Life by Sarah Winman, I know you love that book and raved about it so I had to read it and I absolutely adored it. You and your mum have also inspired me to read more Greek myth retellings and it has become one of my favourite genres so many thanks for that! Lots of love xx
It’s my mum who got me into myths and legends, so really the credit us all hers. Hahaha. I can only take a tiny bit. Mums done another video on those kinds of hooks recently actually.
Happy BT birthday! 🎂 The book I know came from you is Hamnet (as you know)...and I'm pretty sure I heard of Elif Shafak from you as well...definitely Sarah Winman (but haven't read her yet) ❤️
🎂 I love the sound of library ghost tours! No practical advice about night vision I'm afraid but I hope you're able to do it. A few book tubers I watch recommended Hamnet but you were particularly passionate about it, and rightly so, and I think I found the incredible Akwaeke Emezi through you. Also Citizen by Claudia Rankine, I think I remember you talking about? My memory is a bit of a sieve I'm afraid, so sorry if that wasn't you! It was a really remarkable book though
I really need to get this night vision kit sorted as I think it could be huge fun. I loved Citizen. I need to read the final in that unofficial trilogy. And Akwaeke… probably my best author find in all these years on here.
🎂🥂I’ve loved many books you mentioned. The Natural Way of Things was one I might not have known about. I had a nice chat with the author when she came to our book festival in Vancouver
🐻🎂🧁 Happy booktube birthday! i enjoy watching al your videos, but especially love the collaboration ones (Have a nosey videos are a treat!) because you know some lovely people, the vlogs, book hi-BEAR-nation, author interviews, etc. In the next 6 years, i would like more innuendo, double entendre, and just more of you being you without a care for what people may think! (spoiler alert: we will all love you regardless) I'd also like to occasionally hear you talk about books that are not recent releases and therfore may ot be frequently mentioned by you or any other Booktubers, but that you love and are worth checking out . the backlist isn't always a bad thing. Most of what I read, in fact, is backlist. FYI I just put My Mess Is a Bit of a Life on my book wish list!
Hahaha. I’ll see what I can do in the next six years. I’m looking forward to it, that’s for sure. I’ll see what I can do on lesser known, past, backlist or forgotten books.
🎂One of the books I loved that you recommended was Stay with Me and I realised I had it on my shelves, brilliant book. Also read Tin Man this year and really enjoyed it. Reading the Island of missing trees at the moment! So thanks for the time you take to be interested in what we are all doing bookish wise and that is appreciated from me and I think many others. 💜
@@SavidgeReads yes really enjoyed The Island of Missing trees have 10 Minutes 38 seconds in this Strange World on my shelf so will have to read that at some point. I have a reservation of Violets just come up at the library so will be collecting that next time it opens.
Thank you Simon for everything you do! There are so many books that you have recommended that I have loved but I particularly wanted to say thank you for introducing me to Sarah Winman's books. I have read them all and loved them all and I don't think I would have picked them up if you hadn't gone on about Tin Man!!! I also loved The Prophets last year and am reading the backlists of Elif Shafak and Maggie O'Farrell and these writers are fast becoming my favourite contemporary writers. Happy Anniversary! - keep doing what you are doing! - Please!!
So pleased I helped you find Sarah Winman, she is such a wonderful writer and such a wonderful woman. I need to head to Elif’s backlist books in due course.
🎂 My favourite videos are the book prize ones you do with Louise. A book you mentioned that I read and loved was Hannah Kent's Devotion, which I don't think I would have found on my own. I also decided to do the read along for the Women's Prize with you this year and enjoyed so many of them, especially The Sentence, so that's something I'll definitely do again next year. When you talked about editing I laughed, because I love it when you do the black and white 'ramble' edits, they always make me smile.
I still haven’t read Devotion. I must, I must, I must. I will keep up with the edits. There’s some corking ones coming in the next video. Ha. And here’s to the Women’s Prize. Only a few weeks to go and mum and I will be doing our winner video and filming backstage at the party.
@@SavidgeReads Hurrah! I hope you both have a wonderful time. I'll keep an eye out for the video. I'm finding it hard to come up with a favourite for the winner because I liked all of them for different reasons. I guess that's a good thing though, because it means I'll be happy on the night, no matter who the winner is. Take care, hope you've got a good week ahead of you.
🎂Absulutly love your wrap ups! Read Hamnet on your recommendation and oh my life it was beautiful! I subscribe to lots of You Tube channels but always go to yours first see what’s new! Keep being yourself📚❤️
I read The Western Wind, The Essex Serpent, Reservoir 13, and Winter by Ali Smith because of you, to name a few. I still need to read Hamnet. I bought it because of you, but I’ve been terrified of it because I tend to avoid books that will wreck me emotionally. Lol! I also bought From the Wreck and Normal People because of you. I’d love a “pre-BookTube books” video. I used to listen to The Readers back when you still did it. Honestly, I’ve lost track of how many books I’ve read because of you, but I appreciate you so much, and those are the ones that stand out. I also read and loved The Tidal Zone and Ghost Wall by Sarah Moss and LOVED both of them, but I can’t remember if I got those from you or Jen Campbell or both. Lol. Also, if you’re still enjoying mysteries, have you read either The Appeal or The Thursday Murder Club? My favorite videos are your book haul videos where you just open packages, your recommendations videos, and your crime related content. I also really enjoy your discussion videos (like about reading by whim or not having a TBR zero goal).🎊🎊🎊
I should do some more discussion videos. Maybe when I’ve a little less brain fry which I have at the moment. I think Jen is to thank for Sarah Moss, she’s how I heard about her. Ha. Also, a listener of The Readers, that takes me back. Ha.
Happy birthday 🥳🎉🎂🥰🙏 Books read as a result: HAMNET; all of Akwaeke Emizi; THE WOMAN IN WHITE, just to name VERY few! Thanks for all the love for reading you share with the world ❤️📚😘
Hahahaha. I have talked about those two a lot. I’m actually thinking if there’s ways to talk about the books I’ve read more that might not get so much attention.
You did a little video when you went to the Lady Leverhulme art gallery and I had been isolated in France for nearly two years and it was just lovely to see bits of Merseyside and that was pretty special. I also love the foody bits. I would definitely not have read The Sentence if I hadn’t seen it on here and it is one of my favourite books for ages. By the way Hamnet is absolutely wonderful I think. I am reading Little Black Lies by Sharon Bolton right now - there is a Simon Savidge in there - it has to be you! isn’t it? I haven’t been with you for very long but I really enjoy these videos very much. Thank you. 🎂
I am soooo pleased you liked the video with the Leverhulme. I’m glad you enjoyed The Sentence. I’ve still not finished it. And yes… the Simon Savidge in Little Black Lies is named after me, though is nothing like me. Ha.
Wonderful list of books Simon. I first heard of Sarah Winman from you and since then I’ve read and loved all her books. Elif Shafak is an amazing author and I have added a few more books to my to read pile🤗
Happy booktube birthday! I'm so proud of you, you've been so consistent with the videos, and I know how hard that could be. Thank you for the hard work, thanks to you I got to learn more about different authors and books. It's so much fun to see your videos, I can't wait to see more of your videos in the future. Congratulations! ^_^
I am afraid 😉 I love and enjoy all the content you create. If I had to pick a favorite it would probably be the videos with your mum and the interviews with authors. And you definitly helped me through some difficult times in my life. Because of you I read at least Still Life and loved it. And there are many more books on my tbr than there would have been otherwise. 🎂📖🐌
I shall keep being me… maybe a bit naughtier like in real life. Hahaha.
Happy Booktube Birthday Simon!!! I'm currently reading The Island of Missing Trees and am loving it!
Thank you! It’s such a brilliant book. I’m so pleased you’re enjoying it.
Simon! Even I felt emotional watching this! You’re so great! Top tier!
Awwwww thank you very much.
Still Life was my favorite book last year, made me so happy.😊 Thank you for sharing your love of books, places, authors and reading with us🥂🥂🥂
Oooh such a list of fabulous book. How lovely that I was the first. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
🎂
That’s such a kind thing to say and I’m delighted to have been part of your falling in love with books again, sooooo lovely to hear.
To hear I’ve reignited someone else’s love of books is just THE BEST thing to hear. Thank you.
I’m so pleased my videos helped even if just a tiny bit during the panda-pop, what a time it has been.
🎂!!!!! You have single handedly make my TBR miles long! Favorite reads thus far, Hamnet and A Still Life. Thank you for your wonderful inspirations, and hope you have many more years on TH-cam! xoxo
Hahaha. This is what I like to hear Julia. Thanks for joining me on this bookish space.
Ooooh that’s a lovely selection of books. Ha. Thanks for joining me on the channel for so long. Lovely to have you.
Keep vlogging & just being you 🤩🎉👐😻💖Thanks for sharing your passion of books with us all 🐻 📚 🌟 ❤️
Oooh The Essex Serpent, you are an old school supporter. Thank you so much for watching and chatting and all that good stuff. Much appreciated.
🎂 Finding your channel has brought me a lot of joy, thank you for sharing all this! And happy booktube birthday!
Hearing people have got joy from this channel is one of the best things ever.
🎂 my favourite video was probably the 30 books in your first 5 years as that was the first video I watched of yours and I've been hooked ever since! Congratulations on 6 years! 🎊🎊🎊
Awwww thank you. Glad you found it enjoyed it and have been watching since.
Happy Book Tube Birthday, Simon! Huge gratitude to you for recommending The Island of Missing Trees...my most favorite book in absolute ages. 🌟🌈🎂
Thank you so much and so pleased you loved the Shafak.
Haha.
🎂 Happy 6th booktube birthday Simon! Love watching all your videos :)
Thank you so much Laura.
Six years of pure pleasure. Thank you from Cape Town. You have enriched my reading so much
Awww thank you Enid.
Awwww thank you so much for such a lovely comment. I can’t believe I’m going back on the telly… and we have already filmed it. Ha.
🎂🎂🎂 Happy 6th book tube birthday Simon! You have recommended many books that I have read but the most memorable one that I had not heard of at the time was Tin Man. Hard to choose a video as enjoy them all. Will end by saying it’s important we all feel we can be ourselves…and I will not be unsubscribing if I hear a few swear words🤪 Here’s to the next 6 years
Tin Man. What. A. Book. I am 98% myself. Just a bit less sweary and euphemistic. Lol.
🎂🥂🎉 congrats on 6 years. I read and brought countless books based on your recommendations.
Awwww thank you Penelope!
Happy 6 years 🎂 I can't wait to see what you have coming up!
Hahaha. I am delighted to have influenced some of your reading. Lovely to hear. Here’s to more years of BookTube.
We definitely are spoiled by the quality and consistency of your sharing your bookish life, thank you for the wonderful years. And more importantly for sharing your mum 😁
I've read loads of stuff because of you so I'll one up the question and say I recommended From the Wreck for a challenge prompt and 3 people read and enjoyed it, I think you've really carried that book to an audience.
I really would like to bring back Crime Time. Hopefully Pip and I will manage it in the autumn when we’re not so bonkers busy.
Love your videos. Added some books to my tbr. Thank you for entertaining us and keeping some of us going. My depression and OCD has been bad and you've gave me a chuckle. Keep doing what you love. You should be proud of your achievements. You are a brilliant book tuber. Happy reading. 🤓
Happy book tube birthday. 🎂🎉
To bring some chuckles to people is a huge delight to hear.
Happy Booktube birthday 🎂 love the pink 'The Prophets' definitely cover love ❤️
Thank you. And yes… The paper back in the UK is pink. I had this one imported from Australia especially.
🎂🎂🎂🎂
My fave videos are any with you and Louise, especially women's prize ones ❤️
I recently read Still Life because of your recommendation and Cresi is now my favourite fictional character of all time! Congrats on all you have achieved 🎉🎉
Awwww you’ll be getting another video with me and Mum next week… on her channel. Oooooh.
Oh I hope it’s not dismal. That makes me sad to hear. Though happy my videos have made it somewhat better.
🎂. I read Girl, Woman, Other because of seeing you talk about it on TH-cam. I’ve recommended that book to lots of family and friends, your channel too. I loved those videos where you start with a pile of books balanced on your hand! It’s so exciting to find out what the books are. Thank you and keep up the great work 🙂
I love hearing about people passing on books I loved or raving about them to others and the love passing on. It is brilliant.
🎂 Happy Booktubebirthday to my favourite person on the internet!
Awwww thank you so much Fleur.
Oh my goodness The Offing. I don’t think I’ve shouted enjoy about that book. Dulcie is a wonderful, wonderful character.
I hope you're having a good rest this weekend, you look like you've been super busy. Keep well!
(I'll bite my tongue because I know the Giller Prize is a big deal here, but the more UK specific ones aren't as popularly discussed.)
So pleased you’ve found some corking books through this channel. That is music to my ears.
What an earnest and lovely video -- so genuinely delighted to have a cuppa here and enjoying your company. Thanks for being such an "open" book! I read "A Still Life" because of your recommendation and it's easily one of the top books I think I've ever read? Thank you for that!
Awwww thank you Liz. That’s a very kind comment. I loved the open book reference. Sometimes too open.
Haha.
@@SavidgeReads 😊📚🌷
Hi Simon, I credit you getting me properly back into my passion for books around 5 years ago, so will be always thankful. I can only speak for myself but I think I would enjoy unfiltered you even more 💕🎂
It means so much to me when people say that I’ve joy them back into reading and a passion for books. It means the world. Here’s to unfiltered.
Hehehe.
@@SavidgeReads oh I have haha that was just the big one. I have a good feeling we have pretty similar reading taste. ❤️
🎂 I read The Prophets and Assembly solely based on your channel and loved them!
Two corkers!
Well he will after the third book as I have that rule. lol.
🎂
1. Favorite videos in past 6 years:
The vlogs. Also love the evolution in the editing with the close-ups, the black and white tangents (love those as well), and all the interesting bookish adventures.
2. What would like to see in the next 6 years:
More of the same, but also the mentioned plans with exploring more translated fiction sound great. The bookish and general life adventures, as well as the on the go thoughts as you read books are the most interesting to me.
3. Favorite books read because of SavidgeReads:
Probably Hamnet.
I have truly enjoyed watching you over the years and wish you the best for upcoming years and all the bookish adventures. ,🥳
I got far more emotional than I expected making this. It does really mean a lot to me. More than I think I even realised.
I love reading books set in the place I am staying. The Red Hill sounds like just one of those for you. Maybe I will have to go there, sounds amazing. Love this video
Would highly highly recommend. The book and the place.
So pleased you’ve found some fab books, especially From The Wreck, through this channel. Especially glad it’s given you lots of joy!
Sooo favorite videos would be the ones with you and your mom doing the Women’s prize predictions with your sticky notes…love those! Books I have read because of your channel…ooooohhh lots. Two favorites are Hamnet and Grown Ups. 🎉👏
Two treats right there. I really enjoy doing those videos with mum, I think quite a lot of you do. Who knew it would spawn a second Savidge on TH-cam.
Hahaha. The force is strong indeed. So pleased to hear some of my five star reads have also been five star reads for you, that’s a lovely feeling!
🎂 Thank you for giving me Rebecca! Happy BT Birthday! 🎂
Awww one of my favourites.
Congratulations 💐
I really enjoy all your videos. I love traveling with you on all your amazing trips and adventures. I am so grateful for you and your channel. The Island of Missing Trees is my favorite book so far this year thanks to you. 😊 I have also read the Mermaid Of Black Conch another favorite.
So pleased you loved those books and are enjoying the channel. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Awwww thanks so much. What a lovely comment. I’m very moved by all these. Here’s to the next six years.
Congratulations! I have been looking at your former you tube contributions. What a Great effort.
You are really appreciated. I am loving the Prophets too.
Glad you’re enjoying The Prophets and thank you for watching and such a lovely comment.
Happy Happy Booktube- a- versary !!!!🎆
Do you like that???
To be honest, read quite a few books after hearing you talking about them. Some that come to mind are Hamnet, The Death of Vivek Oji, The Island of Missing Trees and loved them. I still need to get to Girl, Woman, Other 😊 Keep doing what you're doing, always like stopping by your channel and watching your videos 🎉
Do get to Girl, Woman, Other it is a wonder.
Thank you for your 6 years of wonderful videos ( I've been with you about 3, but often watch back) and thank you for being you!!
🎂 love your reviews. I read The Prophets and Tin Man because you talked about them. Here is to 6 more years of videos!
Here’s hoping 😉
Happy TH-cam birthday, Simon! 🎂
I wanted to thank you for all the videos.
I would just LOVE to do some of the literature festivals in Australia. Imagine that. It’d be amazing.
@@SavidgeReads hope you can squeeze it in to your trip down under!!
I’m Tasmanian and am grateful that you introduced me to Robbie Arnott’s books🎉
He’s a new one coming this autumn. I am so excited.
Happy 6 years and cheers to many more! I love the library in and out videos! I am about to read tin man in June, which I found out first on your channel!
Ooooh I hope you enjoy Tin Man as much as I did.
Happy booktube birthday!! 🎊🥳 thank you for all of the excellent book recommendations 😁 honestly super grateful!
Thank you so much for watching Becky and for the lovely comment.
@@SavidgeReads currently considering a Still Life inspired tattoo! Me and my friends are grateful for the Sarah Winman intro 🦜
I read the prophets and in the end it was all about love because of how much you enjoyed them!
I've enjoyed the blogs and the kind of focus videos where you talk about one b lol in more depth
Thanks Grace. I have another single book review video coming soon 😉
@@SavidgeReads Gosh I haven't been on Twitter in ages but I just looked, how horrible.
Gosh I’ve brought loads of books because of you have you read young mungo I loved it xx
I have not read Young Mungo yet. I feel like there’s been sooooo much talk about it I need to wait for it to die down a bit.
happy booktube birthday!!!! 🎂 🎉 6 years is big!!!
Awwww thank you Kiran!
We are going back to the Red Hill later this month and I’ll be doing another vlog then. I’m really looking forward to it.
@@SavidgeReads Hooray!
🎊🎉🎊 such a fantastic milestone! congratulations Simon x
Thank you very much Amelia.
Happy 6th BookTube Birthday, Simon!!! I am so so happy I found your channel.
Awwww. I’m glad I’m not the only one who got a bit emotional. Ha. It has been lovely what books have done to mum and my relationship.
Congratulations on your 6th Anniversary and thank you for all of your wonderful videos!
A pleasure. Here’s to the next six years, hopefully.
Happy BT birthday! 🎂 The book I know came from you is Hamnet (as you know)...and I'm pretty sure I heard of Elif Shafak from you as well...definitely Sarah Winman (but haven't read her yet) ❤️
Ooh you’ve a treat ahead with Sarah Winman.
🎂 I read the Wreck because of you and you put Elif Shafak on my radar 🎂
A fabulous book and a fabulous author. Hooray.
Congrats! Happy 6th!!
You’ve done so many amazing things. I’m so happy for you!!! 😘 🎂
Awwww thank you.
🎂🥂I’ve loved many books you mentioned. The Natural Way of Things was one I might not have known about. I had a nice chat with the author when she came to our book festival in Vancouver
I loooove Charlotte Wood. I need to read more of her backlist. I’m so jealous you got to meet her in real life.
Girl A amazingly good. Congrats on your anniversary!
I’ve still not read Girl A I meant to for a Crime Time but it’s been postponed to the autumn.
Glad you’ve enjoyed the videos and the books. It’s lovely to hear. Here’s to many more years. Hope you’re enjoying the Shafak?
Happy 6th Book Tube Birthday! 🎂
Thank you Emma.
🎂Absulutly love your wrap ups! Read Hamnet on your recommendation and oh my life it was beautiful! I subscribe to lots of You Tube channels but always go to yours first see what’s new! Keep being yourself📚❤️
Awwww thank you Alison, that’s really kind of you.
Thanks for all the love for reading you share with the world ❤️📚😘
So many fab books. So pleased I helped you find them in some way.
🎂 Thank you for Hamnet and Girl, Woman, Other, Simon! For talking about them so much, I mean lol.
I need to read more of Elif’s backlist. I might pick one up next actually.
Awww thank you for such a lovely comment. Here’s to the future!!!
@@SavidgeReads Thank you! I can't believe you replied back!
🎂📖🐌
Lovely to hear the channel has been of a help in difficult times. The feeling is mutual.
I'm a new subscriber and really love your recommendations. I just ordered Tin Man and look forward to reading it! Keep on keepin' on.
Awww thank you and welcome Jon. I shall keep on keeping on 😉
