I remember when Godzilla was a character in Marvel books. The resemblance to the Abomination was one of the first things I noticed when they showed the Apex and the new Hulk. After watching the episode I really want to know how and when Moon Knight and Shang Chi officially joined the Avengers.
The Avengers van with the big "A" had me thinking A-Team instead of Scooby Do. Not a children show, but the van colour with the "A" feels like a dead giveaway
The season came faster then I expected. It was announced, I turned around and it’s released. It was fun episode. Nice to see Moon knight other other heroes as well as most of the actors.
The closest we have to a debut of Devil Hulk and the gamma beasts bear a certain resemblance to Giganto, a huge monster that the Mole Man often uses in his invasions to the surface .
You can tell this could be the new Avengers for the live action MCU somewhere down the line and Sam Wilson in this episode proved that he is born to be a leader.
The version of the Hulk in the animated tv show entry is a very direct homage to the 80’s hulk animated series. Which is my favorite animated version of the Hulk so it was a real treat to see that.
Talk about Gundam meets Voltron Defenders of the universe meets MMPR meets Pacific Rim all wrapped into one story. The bravery of Sam Wilson as he tells his team to stand down as he walks towards Megahulk shows true bravery who is will to put his life on the line. Also it's DBZ with how the Hulk tries to destroy himself but unleashes a dark side similar to Kami and King Piccolo with Kami being the good counterpart and King Piccolo being the darker half.
It’s like Gundam meeting Voltron and Power Rangers I’m really glad that they actually integrated most of the phase 4 characters in this episode because it’s about time they actually finally put them in
Yes, that monster reminds me of Destroyah. You mentioned Skull Island. Don't forget Monster Island. Also, Cap going to Monster Island to get Banner is like Jet Jaguar going to Monster Island to get Godzilla.
I love how with Captain America: Brave New World creativity and imagination goes out the window. lol Like Sam has to go head-up with the Hulk in order to beat him. Lmaoo
Actually… In the 70s there were a couple of made-for-TV movies, like Iron Man. There were also a couple of TV series. One was a live-action Spider-Man, another was a live-action Capt. America. Of course, don't forget the live-action Hulk. In the Capt. America series, he roamed the country in a van that had a motorcycle hidden in the walls.
"you cant do episodes with characters we havent introduce in movies", that is so dumb, "what if" is actually a really good way to build up hype for xmen
I was really happy to see him, but me & my friend could not tell who he was in the beginning when he was on the Zoom call with everyone else. Wasn't until I saw the costume when they showed him in the cockpit that we were both like "OOOoohh." Had a hard time placing Bucky in this episode at first, too.
This episode reminds me of a one of the Hulk comics I have where the cover says - "The horror of a hundred Hulks" and it was pretty scary indeed. Must have been from early 2000's.
Thank you my guy for this awesome recap what did you say they going to release an episode every day I must look into this I thought it would be every week which is awesome if they are I'm not going to lie I don't see anything wrong with that so I'm just trying to find out and thank you for the recap I am one of your subscribers😅😂😂✊🏾✊🏾
They had Moon Knight and Shang Chi in there but because they always try to rush these episodes and because of the Mech stuff it didn’t seem like they were super heroes but instead like random soldiers in the army or something
I won’t lie: this episode has really cemented in my mind that Secret Invasion should have been a New Avengers movie. We could have LONG since seen Sam work as a leader & Shuri/Monica work as his 2nd in command.
The mechs bore more than a passing resemblance to the 'Shogun Warriors' which were also a Marvel property in the late 70s early 80s. Not to mention Red Ronin, S.H.I.E.L.D.:s anti Godzilla mech from the same era.
When Sam said “Avenger assemble” afterward I immediately said “Orbots unite!” BTW, Go is the number 5 in Japanese. Go Lion Mach Go, Go, Go (Speed Racer) Go Avenger
Haven't watched this yet, but wanted to get my comment in early as possible. You've been my go-to guy for my favorite media content since before you had 100K subs. Thanks for keeping us all entertained and well-informed, brother, I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 👍👏
Great season premiere episode. Yes, there is something that catgut my attention that you forgot to mention. In the omening of the 80s cartoon, the look of the hulk is exactly like how he was in that cartoon of the incredible hulk 80 series. Which is a really good series.
1:01 Charlie you said they could only show Storm in What If because she had already been shown somewhere before. But Dr.Doom also appeared in the same series. Wouldn’t the same rule apply to him then?
The episode was awesome....!! Sam is a great leader... Captain Rambeau is great 2nd....bucky is an awesome strategist.... the combo here works... more mech suits please!!!
agreed! The shot of Tony gave me vibes of a combination of Mark & Jason! I could TOTALLY see it as an avengers version of that! "latest gamma beast has appeared" - cue the the avengers version of loading up the phoenix! :)
This first episode actually goes hard truly, especially Hulk showcasing himself as a Godzilla type Kaiju that took out the Pacific rim inspired one(as it should), luv it!
In the 70s Marvel adapted a few anime in comics called the Shogun Warriors line which were mecha toys licensed by Mattel. These predated Voltron and Golion. Heck, Thor's robot is a homage to Great Mazinger. Surprised you didn't mention bronze age character designs in said cartoon. The Apex is more or less Devil Hulk, a real Hulk villain from the comics. Marvel also did Godzilla comics in the 70s, Hulkzilla's design even imitates its stature.
8:11 They actually call it the *Apex.* 10:01 This is Nakia's first appearance in What If…? 10:43 I wonder why Rachel Weisz didn't return to voice Melina this season like she did in Season 2.
Don't you think the Alpha has a touch of Gremlins about him? The way he makes more of himself. Especially the 2nd time round when he's in water and makes THOUSANDS. Some of the lesser monsters even look like a Gremlins
I'm so glad that you got the history right about Voltron and the difference between Power Rangers & Voltron & and that Voltron was from the early 80's.
Shang chi deserves a movie before secret wars that for damn sure lol. too many unanswered questions. And the movie was sick and oi hope he gets a significant role in the upcoming films. I mean he's already linked with the avengers
Man, LEGO missed out because there was so many possibilities for Lego sets. But then again, we got Ninjago mechs. But I gotta say, it is so nice to see Shang-Chi and Moon Knight after so long.
I feel it would have been cool if there mech suites allowed those like Moon Knight Monica Rambo with actual super powers to flow through the suites. Also I wonder if the suites were vibrainium??
Just my opinion but honestly I hated this first episode. I can’t pretend like I like this shit anymore. I just want to see the hulk go world breaker. I don’t want a kaiju hulk, fighting another kaiju hulk. I don’t want to see hero’s that have superpowers already, inside of mech suits. I can understand why some of them are in mechs but Thor? Monica? What about captain marvel or scarlet witch are they dead? You had a chance to give one of these characters a huge power up and it would have been so fun to watch. I would have rather seen a normal sized hulk turn world breaker than him turn into a giant abomination looking kaiju.
they're gonna do it in live action, in his solo movie soon. Unless you'd rather they waste this story on an episode of What If...? Seriously, you have to think before you ask for this kind of stuff.
@@hulksmash1127 if he really gets one. Plus, marvel did not need to make an episode about hulk like this. Either make world war hulk or something else. This didnt serve anything as good as previous episodes we got. Just a load of cringe and predictable tropes with characters that seem shallow.

Thank You Charlie was waiting for this video outstanding
Thanks!
Hulk-Kong versus Hulkzilla !!!
I'm wondering if they'll bring hulk and his monsters back to fight a bigger threat later in the season.
NOW WHEN DO I GET MY HULKZILLA AND AVENGER Voltron figures?
I’ve been watching these videos for soo long that the girlfriend usually asks “what did Charlie say about it?” When a new show/movie comes out!
Thanks! That's awesome!
No she didn't, You're just fantasizing

I remember when Godzilla was a character in Marvel books. The resemblance to the Abomination was one of the first things I noticed when they showed the Apex and the new Hulk. After watching the episode I really want to know how and when Moon Knight and Shang Chi officially joined the Avengers.
You men that particular universe? Picking is because everyone else died.
And doomsday
I love Moon knight saying nope to mega hulk and turning on all the cannons
Bruh all like, “nah son… konchu, where you at?”
Y is no one mentioning the crappy quality jump from season 2 -> season 3. Like the animation is horrendous
The Avengers van with the big "A" had me thinking A-Team instead of Scooby Do. Not a children show, but the van colour with the "A" feels like a dead giveaway
No one:
Marvel: “Fuck it, let’s mix Avengers with Voltron with Godzilla.”
Right!
A horrible waste of opportunity.
And the end… hey, wanna go hang out at the rock everybody?? Alright, let’s go!
They released a couple "Avengers Mech Strike" comic series a couple years ago - might be worth a look.
@@akaBoGAre they full series or did they get axed? If they’re full series I am interested in buying them 😅

My Episode 2 video will post tomorrow!
@ it better lol
Hulk during the 2D anime cartoon intro kinda looks like he has Lou Ferrigno's Hulk hair from the 70s show.
Indeed this was awesome, brought so many great memories childhood memories back. Loved it.
@@danielcostanza1029 it was meh. So boring
That was the design of the early cartoons and original comics. Hulk here looks almost exactly like the cartoon from 1982, with the yellow eyes.
It looks great
The closest we have to a debut of Devil Hulk and the gamma beasts bear a certain resemblance to Giganto, a huge monster that the Mole Man often uses in his invasions to the surface .
I was thinking the same thing about the 2nd statement
Started with "WTF...Gundam" and ended with "WTF...Hulkzilla"... good start to the last what if series

Sam used talk no jutsu to bruce and its super effective 🤣.
There is an Eric Bana Bruce Banner moment as well with Ruffalo's Banner with the cap that he is wearing.
