Getting All Droney With a Korg MS2000

After many years of paying no attention to them, Korg's MS2000 had, in the past couple of years, popped up on my radar. I happened to be in Guru Guitars, in Raleigh NC, a couple of weeks ago, and whaddaya know! There one was, beckoning me hither.
In case you don't know, the MS2000 is a 4 voice analog modeling synth. I won't waste your time going over the features here. The bottom line is that it's basically a MicroKorg with knobs. I've been going over the various functions and features since then, and thought I'd share with you all something I came up with.
This is a nice ambient drone piece. It's just the Korg - no outboard processing. Oscillator modulation is done via the mod wheel and LFO 2, starting out with a very slow ramp wave, then changing to a fast square wave. FIlter modulation is by the Virtual Patch matrix, with LFO 1's sample and hold modulating the filter cutoff. The signal goes through the effects (a bit of chorus, maxed out delay) before heading out with a bit of stereo panning.

One of my all-time favorite synths to own. I’ve had mine for about 6 years. No doubt it was a TH-cam video like this one that spurred me to purchase it. For a virtual analog, It has some grit to it. Being a Prince fan-and thus an Oberheim fan-and not being able to afford an actual OB, this scratches that itch right nicely!! It’s FAR from an Oberheim, I know, but like I said it’s got some dirt and grit to it. That’s said, I did spot an MS2000 in Prince’s keyboard player’s rig at a mid-2000s award show appearance so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ …justified!

I love the ambient style drones/patches on this synth. With all the mod features you can come up with some very interesting sounds on these instruments. I had an original 2000 back when they first come out, and then inherited a B version after a friend passed (he was kind enough to leave me some of his synth gear). Ended up selling both during some "downsizing" lifestyle changes, and then recently picked up both the original keyboard and rack versions for a decent price. Hard to believe they are already over 20 years old (hard to believe I'm 20 years older!) but they still sound great and inspire my electronic creative mojo. Thanks for sharing!
