I have had some issues with Homelink over the years on certain vehicles but this took less than two minutes on a 2014 Mustang. Instructions are spot on.
1.) Cleared any previous codes holding the two outer buttons.
2.) Then held handheld transmitter next to the button i wanted and pressed both in about 30 seconds, it flashed and turned solid red.
3.) Then hit rolling code learn button on garage door base, came back to car and pressed the button i wanted for 2 seconds let go then pressed again and it learned rolling code and closed garage door. Easy.

Tried programming my 2018 Ford Edge SEL by using both the garage remote button and the Homelink center button several times to no avail. I even made sure all old codes were cleared. I went back to the owners manual (pg 148) and performed the alternative method by pressing the "Learn" button on the garage door opener motor housing, pressed and held the Homelink button for several seconds twice and on the third press it worked.

If you DO NOT NEED TO ROLLOVER (aka just need to reprogram 1 garage door) to completely reset your Homelink press and hold the left and right buttons at the same time until the light flashes rapidly. This will allow you to reprogram the easy way as shown in the first half of the video if you already have a transmitter.

Here it is 2022, and on a 2019 Ford Edge this is what worked for me. I'm guessing I don't need to worry about that second step, and I don't need to worry about the fact that the homelink in my edge always blinks when you push the button to open the garage door it does not go solid. It's opening and closing the garage door just fine.

So I have a 2015 Ford Escape and all my buttons started as a rapid flashing. So that means they are already programmed to another garage door. You will need to reset the homelink unit.
Press the outter 2 buttons for 8seconds or so. Then all your buttons should flash slow like the video. I had success only by having the garage door remote next to the unit. I have all Chamberlain Openers.

steve71 press and hold the first button, and the last button until the pattern of the light flashing changes. Take your remote, and press and hold the button that controls the door, and also hold the button that you want to control the door. When it starts to flash rapidly, release both the remote button and the homelink button. You do NOT need to press the learn button on Chamberlain garage door openers

@Ford Motor Company - Excellent idea to make this video, however, the directions are too vague. For example,
    * "turn on your car." - Accessory mode or drive mode?
    * 1st step indicates to press garage transmitter and the HomeLink button. You might want to warn user this will cause the garage door to open (or close if already open).
    * "press the HomeLink button" - Which one, the middle one or anyone of the three? Arrows in the video would have also clarified this.
    * After the getting the fast blink, does user release both buttons or continue holding one of them before proceeding to the next step which is to pick the HomeLink button that will control the garage door?
    * "press and hold the button on your HomeLink that you want to control your garage door." - Again, any button or only the ones on the ends (because the HomeLink logo and light above middle button implies that is a special button, meaning it's only used for paring?).
    * 1:23 "press and hold the function button" - which one is the "function button?"
There's more after this point but I (hope!) you get the point.
And why isn't this information in the vehicle's owner's manual? If it is, it certainly is not in an obvious place to find it. And based on the number and type of comments to this video, clearly I'm not the only one that could not find any instructions on how to do this. Come on Ford, you can do better!

This didn't work with my garage. I decided to follow the directions on my garage door receiver vs what was in this video and in the vehicle manual and it worked.
For those who haven't had any luck, maybe try the steps I took to see if it works for you too. NOTE: you will need TWO people to do this!
    1. Turn your car on (keeping it outside of the garage so the door doesn't shut on it accidentally)
    2. Person 1 should press and hold the button inside of your vehicle that you want to program to your garage door.
    3. While they are holding that button in, Person 2 should press and release (do not hold) the "learn button" on the receiver inside the garage.
    4. Person 1 can release their button from within the car and it should work.
    Hope this helps someone else!

“Press and hold the LEARN button on your garage door opener”… word to the wise, check the instructions on the garage door opener first. Holding the LEARN button might clear all your remotes… I learned the hard way I only had to press the LEARN button once and spent another 15 minutes relearning all the remotes. 😝

Wondering what other people's experience is with a 2019 Ford Edge, my homelink transmitter always flashes as it is opening and closing the garage door, it does not go solid. The buttons that go solid when I press them are the buttons that are not programmed. Is this just a discrepancy in the instructions? Will the homelink that I have programmed that is working eventually stop working?

    • @allegheny48
      @allegheny48 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I would guess that it is programmed to do the flashing letting the user know that it is working properly. Being that the above video was made in 2017 there are 2 years worth of upgrades and changes affecting many functions on the vehicle. I have the 2018 Edge SEL. My comment above documents my experience programming my Homelink.

I have a 2013 Ford Edge and am trying to train the Homelink button to operate my lift master LA400 automatic gate. I've tried every which way and cannot get it to work. I've contacted Liftmaster and they don't support Homelink anymore. I've contacted Homelink and was walked through all the steps I've been doing repeatedly to no avail and still no joy. I was able to program the Homelink previously just following the steps in the Ford manual. I had to change out the control board in the LA400 and now Homelink won't program. Anyone out there have any ideas??

If you have problems getting homelink to learn you might need to make sure you step over the safety photo eye sensors. I found out on my Overhead Door Python that if you don’t step over the photo eye and just walk through it, that it turns off the learning process.

For the not so clear instructions that this video provided. Here are the instructions from my ford (2008) manual. I had to type some of it out. So please pardon any mistakes.
Somethings to note while doing this. Whatever button you use shouldn’t matter with linking it to your car visors home link buttons. However to be on the safe side I chose the middle one for the visor. And the only other button I used from my hand remote was the button that opened and closes the garage. Make sure to keep it very close to the visor homelink buttons for connecting purposes. I had to do all 6 steps.
    Programming
Do not program HomeLink" with the vehicle parked in the garage.
Note: Your vehicle may require the ignition switch to be turned to the ACC position for programming and or operation of the HomeLink®. It is also recommended that a new battery be placed in the hand-held transmitter of the device being programmed to HomeLink® for quicker training and accurate transmission of the radio-frequency signal.
    1. Position the end of your hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches (2-8 cm) away from the HomeLink® button you wish to program (located on your visor) while keeping the indicator light in view.
    2. Simultaneously press and hold both the chosen HomeLink® and hand-held transmitter buttons until the HomeLink® indicator light changes from a slow to a rapidly blinking light. Now you may release both the HomeLink® and hand-held transmitter buttons.
Note: Some entry gates and garage door openers may require you to replace Step 2 with procedures noted in the Gate Operator and Canadian Programming in this section for Canadian residents.
    3. Firmly press, hold for five seconds and release the programmed HomeLink® button up to two separate times to activate the door. If the door does not activate, press and hold the just-trained HomeLink® button and observe the indicator light.
If the indicator light stays on contatnly, programming is complete and your device should activate when the HOmeLink button is pressed and released.
If the indicator light blinks rapidly for two seconds and then turns to a constant light continue with “Programming Step 4 through 6 to complete programming of a rolling code equipped device (most commonly a garage door opener).
    4. At the garage door opener receiver (motor-head unite in the garage, locate the "learn"
or "smart" button (usually near where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the unit) (I had to open the white plastic light box to get at mine - my button was black).
    5. Firmly press and relaease the “learn” or “smart’ button. (The name and color of the button may vary by manufacturer).
Note: There are 30 seconds in which to initiate Step 6.
    6. Return to the vehicle and firmly press, hold for two seconds and release the programmed HomeLink® button. Repeat the press/hold/release sequence again and, depending on the brand of the garage door opener (or other rolling code equipped device), repeat this sequence a third time to complete the programming.
HomeLink® should now activate your rolling code equipped device. To program additional HomeLink® buttons begin with Step 1 in this section.

Oh and to reset the programming you hold the middle visor button down for 20 seconds until you see it slowly blinking. Do not release the button. Keep holding it down and proceed to step 1. Hope this helps!

For anyone else having issues getting the door to work. Take out the led bulbs in the opener. It throws too much radio interference and it blocks the signal. Only took my wife and I 45 minutes messing with it to figure it out.
