Oh man she sounds great. Nothing sounds like a Super 44, not having to change the other exhaust parts out to make it sound right too, nothing beats the Super 40! For those looking for that deeper big block rumble like the old Muscle cars, these mufflers are as close as you'll get. Just trust me I know the sound very very well as I grew up with them all around me, I over 200 cars so I owned my share of them since the 70's.
Just changing one muffler not even adding real duals makes a small block V8 sounds pretty close to what many of todays cat-back dual setups sound like, it even sounds better than most duals I heard where people paid big money to get.
I put a Super 40 on my 2007 4Runner V8 in 2015 and one on my 2005 Tundra Extended Cab V8 too. Loved both!
The 4Runner sounded a smidge better, over its foot or so longer exhaust pipe making it a tad quieter than the 4Runner was. Its the only thing I can think of as they were both installed the same way, resonator delete & old Cats still on, same pipe diameters so idk? Said I'm going to play with it a bit but not done it yet, but its only been on it 3yrs, maybe someday..lol?
Truth is I know I'd been just as happy with the Tundra's sound as I was with my 4Runner on the first startup after installing the Super 40, its just enough difference that "I" actually know its quieter is all and its V8 can sound better too. I know it can so it bugs me man..lol
Hate to make its exhaust not look original by shortening it just past the axle but I may do it? I can switch its cats out to high flow versions too instead, I know that makes a big difference but that costs quite a bit since I don't have anyone to weld them on cheap anymore.
Anyway, this is the best sounding muffler I found in many many yrs. I really wish I put them on my old 69 Super Bee instead of its Glass Packs that droned so bad your damn head throbbed after you arrived & just when it stopped throbbing it was time to drive home again..lol I sure miss that damn brain throbbing all to hell today. it was my daily driver over 12yrs but once gas hit over 3 bucks a gallon (premium) that 6mpg sure took the fun out of things for me. That 6mpg was keeping my foot out of it, almost idled everywhere, if I put my foot in hard its mpg was so low Jethro couldn't even cipher it. Peace

Sounds meaty & mean man, do you love it or miss the 3rd gen?

805 Drive Thanks man. I'm really loving the 4th gen, but do miss my 3rd gen from time to time. Gas mileage sucked on my 3.4 and this thing is a huge improvement, well depends how heavy my foot is sometimes. Lol

I have a 98 limited with a locking rear differential

Hahaha, I know all about the terrible gas mileage. How do they compare off-road?

805 Drive It's pretty capable, so far I've done Bilstein 5100s up front, and bought some used mud terrain tires. Only thing I dislike about these is the trac control, there's no button to turn it on/off

Interesting, so no locking rear diff or anything like that.

A locking rear diff wasn't available till '09 on the Trail Editions, and those are super rare. All 4WDs come with a center locking diff though.

Mostly held back by the driver and tire choices made but my 2007 V8 being full time 4wd with center locking diff on Duratracs has been just outstanding. We go wheeling with 2 Jeeps a couple times monthly with same tires and have no problems running with them fwiw. Now' one jeep has a high lift/taller tires but that's another story now.
      Snow?
Had storm with just over 2ft of snow with almost an inch of ice under it here the first yr I put on Duratracs and this thing went through it like it was still summertime. I went up the baddest hills around testing them it out. On largest/steepest one in our area I watched line after line of fwds backing down and turning around. Then as they tried waving me off while passing by I drove right up it like nothing, completely stopped at the red light on top of that hill then went on again when green. Of course to show off I done this several times to them all...lmao
Sorry you failed the hill black Xterra, ya that was my Gold 4Runner...lol

Sounds nice I just ordered a 40 and I'm impatiently waiting for it to get here I'm hoping to get the same or close to the same sound as far as the trac /stability control u can run a switch to the abs unit for off road to shut all that crap off the only downside is u also loose abs and u will have 2 shut the truck off and restart it b4 u hit the pavement again unless your like me and drive around with no abs (bad wheel sensor) but it's a really simple set up and is worth checking out if you are interested
