    I'm back! Needed this again and couldn't remember the details. Such a great tip. Hoping to melt the remains of all my old scented candles down and create something new. Could be a disaster, but it's worth a try.

    Wow. I am literally going to go do this right now. I usually buy good candles with lids and hate to throw them away. Now I don't have to.

    • @JeffRatliffhome

      The chopstick part actually caused the candle to break up in pieces that I could pull out with my fingers. The boiling water took care of the rest of it. Works perfectly.

    This worked perfectly. I only had wax residue so I did not need to pole holes. I'm going to run them through the dishwasher to get them totally clean and dry to sell. I had 36 candles so this was a life saver!

    Just did this! It worked great! Using my huge candle that has a cute lid as a tea container on the counter. So cute, thanks!

    That was an exceptional video production! I mean it. The music was perfect for the melting wax coming to the surface. Your voice is fantastic too. I might just subscribe because your production is so professional. Great job!

    gonna fill jar with sea salt and on my bedroom window sill to remove condensation. when it gets really wet with moisture i can either put in the oven for ten mins or just use as bath salts

    I dip the jar in a large pot of water on the stovetop, melting the wax inside the jar. Once that's done, I pour it into my wax pot and wipe the jar out with a paper towel and then wash it with boiling water (while wearing double layered rubber gloves) 😀

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Forget the knife, freeze the wax, use a flat head screwdriver to break it into chunks that can be easily removed... relatively safe. Works best if the wax is pooled at bottom, otherwise I'll give this boiled water option a try!

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm a total klutz, any object used for prying/breaking up the wax would end up impaling me-- this hot water method is the safest way I've found! =D

      I use hot glue from a high temperature glue gun, myself

  • @kioanakos
    @kioanakos 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Put the candle jar in the freezer and let it there a few hours to cool down. The hardened wax is then removed easily, usually in one piece, using a knife.

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That seems super dangerous to me, maybe just because I know a guy who cut his femoral artery doing something similar (and lived but just barely). Be safe out there folks!

    • @kioanakos
      @kioanakos 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Even a butter knife does the job. You need a blunt object to apply some force on the hardened wax so that it comes off.

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I bet you wouldn't have to apply as much force if you combined the two methods-- if the melted wax freezes on top of the water, it has only a ring of surface area touching the jar. Overall I stand by the hot water method as the safest one with the least effort required.

    • @JesBewsey
      @JesBewsey 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BeckyStern the freezer method works BUT I bet it's not always a super clean removal (in my xp it has been, but I've never used it on a jar, but rather a wax melt ceramic dish- deeper than a plate, not as deep as a jar). BUT it seems like this hot water method would not only be better for deeper / more stubborn jars, but would also probably help get the faint residue off the edges that the freezer method leaves behind).

    • @JesBewsey
      @JesBewsey 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hot tip for the labels: if you find that the label glue is still being stubborn after the hot water peel method, rubbing a little lighter fluid on a wet paper towel will help you get rid of that residue (i then wash the whole jar & rinse the paper towel before throwing away bc I'm paranoid af about flammable stuff haha).

    And DO NOT dump ANY wax down your drains! Common sense there...

    • @wendylivings5577
      @wendylivings5577 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is my concern as all of the videos show the use of water...but fail to advise how to get rid of waxy water.. Definitely NOT the Dishwasher, you'll have all the drains/pipes clogged in no time.

    • @redeyesfanos
      @redeyesfanos 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you recommend for disposing of that water? The drain seems unwise, the garden seems unwise. Where would you put it?

    • @josephcade2485
      @josephcade2485 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've found that waxy water makes a great weed killer, especially if it's boiling hot 😀

  • @gabyll5084
    @gabyll5084 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It is better and faster way to boil a jar in water so you can reuse wax or throw all of the wax in trash insted of pouring water into the jar :)
