But it's just like graduation, no? It's just the beginning. The draft and being selected in the first round don't mean anything if you end up being a bust.
It's just an everyday job. You can get into a big company with a great starting salary but it doesn't mean anything if you end up getting fired and don't develop yourself.

Eli & Rivers best trade ever. NY got a 2 time Super Bowl MVP and Chargers got a litter of very good players that helped they to the playoffs.
I've noticed over the years the more emotional players were often hardest workers. They went out there and played ever down as if it was the winning drive.

I'm not a diehard football fan, but I ALWAYS watch the draft. I love the raw emotion and I love to see when a guy drops from a lottery pick to a late first and sometimes even to a 2nd round pick. Then all the excuses and conspiracy theories come out. Best reality show on TV.
After all these years, I still can't believe Ditka mortgaged the Saint's whole future on Rucky Williams.

Funny thing about Minnesota missing their picks is that while it was embarrassing at the time, they got Bryant McKinnie in 2002, who ended up as a solid starter for them, and in 2003 they got Kevin Williams who had a fantastic career.
The Oakland Raiders: The only team to ever use a 1st Round Pick on a Punter, and a 1st Round Pick on a Kicker. And both of those were great picks at the end of the day. One is in Canton, and the other is gonna at least be considered for it.
depends on your definition of "great pick". Great players? sure...but I mean..could they have easily gotten them in rd 2? 3? 4? 5? probably, right? So really they were horrible picks...
They played the long ball game tho... they secured a great kicker and punter so they don't even have to worry about these positions for 10 years or more since kickers seem to last longer

I mean is it really all that surprising when men cry after being drafted? It's honestly the pinnacle of their entire lives. I've known several career football families and none of them ever made it. I can only imagine the emotion of all those years of hard work and sacrifice paying off, literally and figuratively.

Honestly it might’ve been a good thing that that happened to Aaron cause it probably was just that extra motivation that got him where he is now. I’m sure it made him step up more than he would’ve had he gone before Alex Smith.

It was crazy when it happen though. I went crazy.
So they almost certainly could have picked up at least 1 draft pick by letting the 2nd QB hungry team leapfrog the first, but chose to just let them pass instead.

The Raiders then drafted him in the 6th round in the 1987 draft- nobody thought he was going to play and Bo would ONLY play for the LA Raiders.

Tebow had 17 passing TDs against 9 picks and rushed for 12 more TDs. Manning threw 9 TD passed and 17 picks and won it all
John Ward Manning also had more experience and could read the defense better an also had a Fantastic Defense. Tebow was good but also didn't get much of a chance. I'd love to see him play with today's Denver defense.
John Ward Tebow also had like 46% completion percentage.
Manning won because of his name and experience, the defenses feared Manning and he played them like a fiddle. Tebow could never hope to do anything like that.
+John Ward, But that's the thing, Tebow never has and never will be good enough to be a consistent starting quarterback in this league. Sure he had a nice little gimmick for one season, but even in that season defenses started to figure him out and he fizzled out toward the end. He had his cup of coffee in the league, and it was a fun ride, but now it's time to let it go and watch some REAL quarterbacking....mostly.

Connor McClanahan Yup. Derek Carr, Gabe Jackson, Khalil Mack, Justin Ellis, Amari Cooper, Mario Edwards, Karl Joseph, Vandal Alexander, DeAndre Washington are all quality players.
The Eagles took the title of "The Raiders Unknown" for a few years when they had Chip Kelly & the early Howie Roseman years. Marcus Smith, Danny Watkins & Nelson Agholor in the first round?...oh boy..
