Good tutorial. Nice to hear the torques listed. I use Redline as well. They have a number of viscosities of gear oil to match your use. I have a Tacoma which sees pretty hard use, so I use their 75w110 in the rear diff and 75w90 in the front diff. I also have temperature probes in both diffs, so I know exactly what is going on in there. One interesting tidbit is that a good synthetic oil will drop diff temps 20 to 30 degrees below conventional oil,....so synthetic is what you should be using for sure.
I recently got my diff and transfer case fluid change and started to get issues right after the service. I own a 2017 4Runner I got 75w90 GL5 front and 80w90 GL5 rear and 75w90 GL5 transfer case. I started to get humming noises and vibrations after 20mph. The dealership first said it was my drive shaft than misdiagnosed me and turned out to be my front differential gear. Could have the viscosity been too thick of the differential fluid and damage my differential? They are denying that the service is not relatable.
Check out this thread www.4runners.com/threads/thoughts-on-using-75w90-gear-oil-gl5-for-transfer-case-vs-recommended-lf45w-gl5-gear-oil.33780/ likely didn’t cause the problem, but the fact that it started right after servicing the very same part of the vehicle tells me they did something wrong.
