If you're a beginner to logic pro x and you're looking to learn how to record vocals then this video is for you. I'll show you how to get setup recording your vocals from scratch and the specific equipment you need. I'll talk a little bit about different audio interfaces you can purchase as well as microphones that are good for vocals. We'll touch briefly on how you can process your vocals after you've finished recording but we will mainly discuss how to start recording vocals from scratch in logic as if you were a beginner.

This feeling when you spend half an hour browsing for tutorials to get to learn how to record vocals on Logic, and all what you end up with is being frustrated, you have many questions unanswered, and you don’t get the vocals recorded. Then you come to Charle’s channel, and suddenly you can relax. I love the way you’re explaining all of these things, everything sounds and becomes so easy. Thank you!

Thank you so much Charles. You are user friendly for all of us that haven't studies recording engineering and would like to learn. I almost had a my head explode listening to another teacher of Logic Pro X because he seemed to be more into bragging about all the bangles and beads instead of actually showing, hands on, how to get things recorded. When you explain it, it is so much more clear for us civilians, and singers, and instrumentalists that are trying to learn how to use a DAW during a pandemic. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

Charles came on to your channel by browsing and I am glad to be here. Have been recording with Logic X for some time but not at all in past 6-8 months for various reasons. Also now have a new Clarett +8 and new Mac Studio and was getting confused in basic set up in Logic. Of course this was compounded by not really fully knowing my new interface control software that well. Anyway, thanks for the straight forward refresher. You got me situated with the monitoring set up in particular. I will be checking out your channel. Best

It would definitely be great to see some more about how to edit vocals after recording. Even with gain set at a good level there will always be parts that need tweaking. I'd love to learn the basics of what to look for and what it sounds like, so far every time Ive been like "well I don't know what that is" like 10 second after in the video you explain it with multiple analogies and its so helpful. Seriously, thank you, Im sure the more I practice and follow along with your videos Im gonna get the hang of this stuff.

Thank you so much for your videos, they have been sooooo helpful. I set up today in a non treated room. I bought some in ear monitors so that I can record visually without cans on. I’m plugging in ears into apogee one.My in ears are way more sensitive than my closed headphones(I’m hearing much more room noise from my apogee built in mic with in ears?)I found it hard to get my backing track on logic to play at a reasonable level.
Do you have any thoughts? I know I need to spend more time understanding the gain on the apogee. It surprised me that different ear monitors would need different gain setting? Also backing track bass sounded painfully loud on in ear monitors at the level I needed it.
    Any thoughts welcome!!! 🙏

This is great - thank you Charles - I can see from the few comments I have read that it is your straight forward support and guidance that is such a relief as so many tutorials have lights and bells going off - just too much big personality' and not enough basic guidance So I am a beginner with Logic pro and so far its been fun recording vocals - however - my voice likes to wander up into the high range as well as being sort in the low - so there is an issue with loud and soft and distortions especially with the high more shrill notes - how do I clip the distorted notes in post. recording?

    • @CharlesCleyn
      @CharlesCleyn  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Radha, if you have such difference in highs and lows in your performance you could record separate takes and set the gain levels appropriately or if you don’t want to do that you can back off the mic when you start to sing loud. Hope that helps!!

    • @CharlesCleyn

you can always bring everything down before mastering so you sit at about -6 before you start compressing or limiting... but like you say just make sure you're not clipping on the recording.

Hey Charles! I literally just got the interface - Scarlett focusrite 2i2 - 3rd gen interface with the Rode nt1-a. I’m having a problem though which is incredibly frustrating. I’m getting literally a ‘Wind Noise’ with a mix of noises that sound like thunder and static robotic noises also with the interface and I can’t seem to fix it at all or figure it out. Have you any idea what this problem could be? The Rode mic is working with it but not as it should because I’m getting those awful noises with my interface and it’s passing the problem onto the mic too because of it. It’s literally so frustrating not being able to figure or fix it. Now I do have an older MacBook- I have a mid 2012 one with MacOS Catalina with update 10.15.7 and I’m just wondering would the system or update I have be causing this noise or can I rule that out? I’m really struggling to figure this out so anything you know that may be the problem would be very helpful! Thank you! Ps, great video 👍

I've been watching your videos, . My only user end suggestion is that in #1 and #2 is that I did not get to see where you were clicking, it went by a little quick. For us beginners/intermediate's ( I had a pro over here and I watched and learned) is that there are a lot of buttons and options to click. Way to many. They seem camouflaged to the inexperienced. You might remember them after the first few tries, but finding them in the first place is tough, at least for me.

Charles, I have a Yeti usb mic... plugged it into my Mac Laptop for a vocal -- but when I opened a track , there were two tracks instead of one? What does this mean-- I think it must be something with the output?

Hi Jan, are you talking about 2 tracks on the left side in the inspector window? You're right in saying that the track on the right side of the inspector is the output.

I can’t get Logic Pro to let my usb be used as an input.. only output has option

❤ ur channel- total noob. Do u have any vids that walk thru (simply and visually) how to take 2 tracks (lead and backing-I recorded both)
I don’t know how to put them together in one track. Lots of videos talk about stacks, busses, bounces, etc. I’m coming from OG analogue tascam 4 track! So these words are foreign to me. I just want to toss two vocal tracks together- is there an easy vid that shows that? Like I’m 5? 😂 thanks!

Hi Valenzia, yes you should be looking for an XLR cable to connect your mic to your audio interface. Unless you have a USB microphone that connect directly to your computer.

You did not cover the part where to audio waves overlapped and how to manage so many layers in the same track
