I just realized how well the CGI in these movies aged compared to most other movies.
It's the lighting I think. It's either dark and muddy (this rainy battle scene), or bright and from one source (the sun in the open see). This kinda hides the CGI-ish texture from creating weird reflections that would show imperfections and makes it look more "real". The original Jurassic Park used similar lighting tricks.
When films have a decent enough budget, works to stylize the CGI, and/or have someone good at rendering CGI, this tends to be the end result.
also this is early 2002 they still use practical effect

Honestly, Barbosa marrying Elizabeth and Will was one of the funniest scenes in the movie do to see the scene with lightsabers is hilarious.
It was also, in my humble opinion at least, one of the most awesome scenes.
Elizabeth and William are quite literally in the middle of a war. Friends and foes are dying all around them.
But Will does make an excellent point: considering the fact that they are currently on a ship that is orbiting a _maelstrom,_ with sea-mutants swarming the deck and a rival vessel that, even now, is firing on them, there is no guarantee that they will be getting out of this alive.
He therefore decides that, even if it is quite possibly the _worst_ possible time, he must be plain with the woman he loves.
In response to his proposal, Elizabeth calls out to Barbossa, who, as captain of the vessel, possesses the authority to officially marry them.
In spite of continuous interruptions, Barbossa, the bride and the groom speak their parts, simultaneously holding off the hordes with their weapons.
Of note: in the moment before they properly kiss as husband and wife, Elizabeth Swann and William Turner become so immersed in their respective battle-rages that when they spin back around in search of another foe to rend open, Will nearly cleaves Elizabeth in two before she reflexively blocks his attack.
(It showed, to me, that the stress of the fight was beginning to get to them, since their capacity to tell friend from foe is degrading.)
This scene, in all its glory? Truly outstanding.
Everybody's talking about lightsabers and I'm just thinking how incredible the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy was.

For whatever reasons, seeing this made me visualize a live-action Treasure Planet with a space battle during a black hole...
The same. Always wanted to see it. Treasure Planet was an underrated gem. all the lightsabers in the background tho...really made this scene feel star wars but with pirate
That would be a brilliant climax.
If I may: the purpose of the _Soaring Storm_ is to ferry souls lost in the infinite void of space back to the Force, to rejuvenate the source of all life in the cosmos. Darth Krakus was once known as Davi Jonz, a powerful Jedi who grew to love the Daughter, Calypso.
Seeing his potential, she charged him with captaining the golden vessel, as his potent connection to the Force would allow him to effortlessly locate the lost souls amongst the void.
For ten years, Jonz faithfully performed the duty she bestowed upon him...but when the time came when they could reunite, Calypso did not come. His faith in the Light shattered by this betrayal, Davi Jonz took the name of Darth Krakus, abandoning his duty and instead seeking power enough to command death itself.
In doing so, Krakus corrupted the once mighty vessel, transforming it into a twisted shell of its former self, while he and his crew, once potent and powerful Force Ghosts, slowly grew hideous amalgams of flesh and metal around themselves in their deranged hunger for life.
The scene, I believe, would be thus:
_Master_ Jax Parro and Eliza-bet "Black Swann" have narrowly escaped the _Soaring Storm,_ which is first broken and then subsumed by the black hole. With the aid of a jerry-rigged escape pod, they successfully return to the _Black Sun._
The battle, though, is far from won; the _Dominion_ dreadnought, Cutla Bekat's personal vessel and flagship of an Empirical armada a thousand strong is bearing down on their starboard side, with all its forces rallying behind.
In spite of the overwhelming odds, Parro refuses to flee, knowing that even if they escape now, the armada will never stop until every last Republic ship and system is in ruins.
Seeing the _Black Sun_ holding its ground, Bekat orders the collective firepower of his ship energized, ready to finally finish his rival.
But then, as Republic and Empirical ships alike stare in shock, space itself shifts, warps and finally _tears_ ...and the _Soaring Storm_ emerges from the Force.
The mighty ship seems to be disintegrating and regenerating at the same time; toxic rust and twisted metal crumbles and decays off the hull, replaced by shining adamantine and swooping curves as the _Soaring Storm_ finally rights itself.
Cutla Bekat observes that the ship still flies.
But within? A miracle. The grotesque parodies of flesh the crew have grown crumble away, revealing shining energy.
And as "Bootleg" Bill looks on, the men and women turn to see their new captain: William, "the World-Turner".
Accessing the hidden frequencies, Will commands both the _Soaring Storm_ and the _Black Sun_ to prime every weapon they have. Echoing his words, Jax Parro and his first mate Ectorb-Arbosa direct the crews to unleash the full potential of the reactors in their respective ships. With vessels and crews ready to rampage, William pulls the _Soaring Storm_ into a hard turn to port, while Arbosa compels the _Black Sun_ to make for starboard.
This is the first hint to Bekat that something is wrong. Instead of continuing on a collision course, the two great ships are now on such a heading that they will flank the _Dominion_ on either side.
His first mate asks for orders, but instead sees the confusion on Bekat's face turn to mounting horror as he realizes what has happened: the _Soaring Storm_ no longer heeds the will of the Empire.
