Thank you! I told the husband I wanted lights on my shelves and we tested some out and then he connected them all together and put a little programming box on them. So now I can match my book covers, lol. It's the little things!
Just finished this and I enjoyed it! The characters were certainly flawed and sometimes made dumb decisions but I liked the tension. Like is the crazy stuff ERS or something else? I think general consensus, and I agree, is that dead Silence is better. It's spooky investigation vibes kinda like this one but has more exploration. The end was a little meh but not too bad. I'd give it a shot!
I gave Dead Silence 5 stars. It's written like a Gothic horror in space. I did like this one, too. I expected the slow pacing because the first book was written the way it was. Gothic horror is always a bit slow. I'd say that Dead Silence has a bit more oomf to it though.
I'll give Dead Silence a go then and have my expectations set for a slower pace. I don't mind slower books, but I was just bored because it was so focused on the characters in the hab. Thanks, Trin!
Okay, I think I'll give it a try, but thank you for sharing - I can make sure to have my expectations in the right place. I'll check it out from the library!
I would say Dead Silence is medium paced. I gave it a 3 star rating and liked the beginning half of it but then the end fell off a cliff for me and I kind of hated the reveal/explanation! 😂 I definitely think you'll have some similar complaints about not really becoming attached to the characters and finding a character in a position that they have no business being in (but this character eventually recognizes that too so it might hit different for you 🤔). I would say that if you try it, get it from the library or everand so you're not spending much on it since I'm not confident you'll love it.
Thanks, Stacey. I'm going to give Dead Silence a try, but will ABSOLUTELY grab it from the library. I think I'll try the audio for it and see if the narrator can help me immerse and enjoy it better.
hi! i appreciate you sharing your experience reading this book. also i know you posted this a while ago, but i heard something about bugs or parasites in this book. i've been looking and haven't gotten a definitive answer. if you wouldn't mind, could you tell me if there are?
@TheNerdyNarrative for sure! i've got a pretty bad phobia about parasites. i've already got about half-way through the book, and it would be good to know if i need to be prepared or even go for a different book. i just need to know if there really is bugs or if it's not real, i'd super appreciate it!
that's the truth right there - but I'm going to keep looking for good ones! From the comments, it seems like Dead Silence is the better of the two, so I'm gonna grab it and try it out
I love your setup! I've just finished Ghost Station... incredibly dull and poorly written. Info dumps galore, internal dialogue with no bite, a slew of adverbs and unnecessary words. I counted only a few passages I actually liked, and maybe a couple of scenes that were decent. I'm an avid reader of both horror and sci-fi, and Ghost Station fails at both. I wouldn't recommend it to even the most fanatical fan of either genre. 1 star.
Really liking the new lighting setup, Lezlie

I adored Dead Silence. 4 stars. And it sent me in a huge horror in peace kick
Awesome! Ever since I saw the movie Event Horizon, I've been a huge lover of horror in space, so I'm always down to read one! Thank you :)
I read the first book and quite liked it.
I've only had one person who didn't like it that much, so it seems like the first one will be a much better fit for me!

It seems everyone agrees with you about Dead Silence being the better of the two! Really glad you enjoyed Ghost Station :D

I read Dead Silence and I liked it. I gave it a 3.5. The pacing was much better, but the ending wasn't my favorite.

@@TheNerdyNarrative Sounds good! I did the audio for it as well and don't remember having any issues with the narrator! :)

I can answer that, but it would require me to spoil the book and ruin the intrigue and suspense, are you sure you want to know?

Okay, yes, there are - but they’re alien technology - kinda like nanobots or some such.
@TheNerdyNarrative you are a gift, thank you so much!
Damn. It's so hard to find sci fi horror. Dead Silence was brilliant. Definitely doesn't sound like Ghost Station.

Welp I know this is one I will pass on.
I'll try the first one and see if it's better!
I didn't finish this book because it was so slow and nothing made me want to continue. One of my biggest disappointments of the year.
While I'm sad it didn't work for you, at the same time I feel better that it wasn't just me, lol
