This scene is intentionally without music, because it's supposed to a demo scene for high end audio systems. There's a 7.1 Dolby TruHD, 7.1 DTS-HD Master, and full Dolby Atmos version with overhead channels. It also sweeps the entire 20-20k hz frequency range. One can just tell, if you happen to enjoy it on a very high end system. They really went above and beyond, and it was one of the first game changers in dolby atmos to really utilize all channels lile the technology was supposed to be used. To many audiophiles and moviephiles, its considered reference material. One of the greatest audio mixes of all time, or at least top 10 ever made.
I think the music is amazing, but it almost distracts from the sheer intensity of the scene. The loud sound effects and background noise made it more immersive, the music makes it even cooler in some ways, but it also takes away from some of the immersive feel you get when you watch the movie.
Good catch! I also noticed during production that the sfx was specifically made to shine in the absence of music, so levelling the volumes of each sound are different from normal, and adding music actually masked quite a few of those sfx
Personally for me, without music this feels little bit dry. Yes, sfx making the scene more inmersive, but music is involving in whatever is happening on the screen. Seriously, after seeing this version, I was actually yawning at the original race.
Now I see why they didn't add music to it. There was so many thing going on the screen that people didn't even notice there was no music playing the first time they watched it.
True, sound effects with all the visual stuff are already enough to make the scene epic and memorable! With music it just feels like sensory overdose. Which is another reminder how much of a masterpiece this movie was from effects standpoint
I noticed the first time To be honest and I was somewhat disappointed because I really wanted them to play the back to the future theme. It feels really off to me whenever I see the delorean without the iconic soundtrack. Someone made an edit with the soundtrack and it fits really well.

No it isn't. Go watch this in a theater with a proper audio setup and it will blow your fucking mind. It is literally THE BEST sound demo for any Atmos/Auro3D system. This music fuckin ruins it.
Sorry, but with this song it took all the fun out of the scene. Watch the original video, this scene is so awesome just with the sound effects of the cars passing by, the engines, the tires skidding, of the destruction in the scenery, the car crashes, his taking those coins and so on. It's an incredible sound immersion, this song ruined everything and made everything very generic
I think I liked it more without music because you can really concentrate on all the different sounds happening in the race, it's almost like you're participating in it.
This is good! It’s not too much that it overrides the feel of the original car sounds, but just adds that little bit extra intensity. I think the only things I reckon you should’ve added would be a slight reference to the Akira and Bttf theme when the bike and car do their respective movie references, with the Akira slide and the bttf2 hover mode. Other than that, nice work
When I first watched Ready Player One back in theaters, I remembered the race scene had music playing in the background. Maybe I must’ve been misremembering things, but I could’ve sworn there was music.
That fit SO WELL I never watched the movie, yet it felt as though this music was genuinely from it! God it's so good... The way it dynamically changes and adapts to the movie is just... WOW! It's people like you who fuel that burning flame of passion in my heart :D

It's honestly a bit insulting that neither Destiny nor Warframe are dropped in there at all. Two of the most notable scifi live service games, and nothing. SMH. We even had the Sparrow Racing League!
Noo... .^. I like that in the Back to the Future films old and realistic special effects were used, this made the trilogy more classic (in a good way) But the use of models, things, characters in cover films is quite interesting ^_^ the same collaborations of robots from different movies and games :3
My headcanon is that the devs of the finals (who used to be EA devs and worked on the likes of bf1 and hard-line!) Took a lot of inspiration from ready player one in a lot of their game design for the finals
Wow! Having just compared this to the original cut, I really like this one quite a bit more. The score you've created definitely adds a better sense of urgency and tension to the established action.
can we talk about how during the entire duration of The Oasis, not one fucking troll thought about going backwards in the race? If this was irl people would have completed the event in 1 day.

"Please let me know what you think down below!" Well, mister, while the music does it's best to accompany the scene, it was design to not have any. So, as an experiment is really cool to see "what if", but it's impossible not to feel that something is wrong, all the sound effects are almost muted by the score, and what makes this scene great is exactly it's lack of music and incredible sound mixing. But I appreciate the effort and I would really like to listen to the track only.
Honestly, I feel like if it did have music, it would have had some moments of references to Back To The Future, Jurassic Park, King Kong, stuff like that. It doesn't sound half bad like it is, but I do feel like if this was in the film, they would have included some little nods to the films.
I personally love and prefer the original edit, sometimes the absence of music amplifies the sound design, and the sound design was absolutely awesome in this sequence. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
I immediately went to check out the original and I get why it didn't have sound. It was rocky, visceral, intense. You could hear the obstacles jumping up and the cars hitting each other and the environment. It made it seem like there was danger. I am worried about the heroes and what they have to overcome. This version is fun and enjoyable. Turns it into more of a ride and less peril. Just depends what you want to get out of it.
I feel both with or without music works well depending on the tone you want to set. Without music defines how this isn't a big deal and this is every day for these people, and how it's just an insignificant part of their lives. With music you feel there are stakes at hand and would be a better crestive choice had this race itself been more of a significant part of the plot, rather than a just another attempt at a race that people have been trying to beat for years. However, everyone's preference is valid. I do personally stand by no music when putting it next to the whole movie, but as a stand alone watch, the music works perfectly
In my opinion the music needs certain thematic beats to it for the characters. Like Artemis could have some of the drum beats from Akira when she’s winning, Parzival has back to the future sprinkled in when he’s on screen. Kind of like the opening of Redline where JP has the guitar riff and Sonashi has the vocal beat, then when they are neck and neck the 2 were used together.
Fantastic job, actually. I prefer the original version as it really emphasizes the movies' excellent sound design, but the music you added fit perfectly.
I was way more into this than the original! Music makes all the difference! I wish Mega Racer, from Spy Kids 3(D) could fit in this scene. I love that track! If this had an official track, it'd probably mix up a bunch of themes from their respective movies in certain sections.
This is great, but even greater would be a version, where it cycles between different theme songs. First, back to the future then Jurassic Park and lastly King Kong. Still, great job.
music is a good idea, however choice in song is important. the movie is filled with pop culture references and i personally feel like some old school 80's Rock would of been best for it
