i never understand that, its a strategy game, if you enemy scouts bad you suppost to take advantage out of it. why send important resouces to the enemy
@@andrejzizenstock9067 Because it's seen as poor sportsmanship and so people generally avoid it. Sheep can spawn it awful places sometimes. People want to win a clean match. Now it some tournaments laming is allowed but then it's like well all bets are off, we're trying to win a tournament not improve as players.

Which is utter bullcrap tbh. It's part of the game and that's it. And RNG is part of the game as well. Too many people making too many excuses. And if you cant survive a laming, well then you definitely need to improve as a player.
Says a lot about the state of the meta at the moment that Franks vs Goths ends up with an Xbow battle in early Castle...

I feel the same. As someone who spectates a lot, I'm always a little heartbroken when I see Japanese, Vikings, Incas, and other civs with amazing Infantry bonuses, and their Plan A is archers. It'd be one thing if these civs started with infantry and fell back on archers as a counter or a backup, but no: these civs so frequently go archers first, and infantry only if it's an emergency.
The problem is that to properly counter them during Feudal, you have to invest food into scouts or skirms, which is a terrible idea because it will make your castle age way later. The only realistic option to counter them is to match archers in feudal so you dont spend the food, or get to castle quickly and either build knights or mangonels.
I propose Infantry:
Get more pierce armor in feudal
Have squires and arson rolled into the MAA upgrade
Have the ability to build early rams in feudal
Reduce food cost of scouts and replace that with some wood cost
Make Skirms cost less food
Then make knights a researched tech (so they cant just fast castle and spam knights to completely counter your feudal pressure)
Make archers slower than infantry so they can be chased down
Roll Supplies into the LS upgrade
The idea is to make MAA an actual threat in Feudal Age that can fully win the game if not reponded to properly, and dethrone archers as the defacto unit to build by inrpoving their counters.

It's unrealistic though. Infantry normally wears much more armor/weight and cant be expected to move as fast as archers.
@@justalonesoul5825 that's kinda silly. First, it's a game and the focus is gameplay and balance, not realism. Secondly, medieval armour weighs much less than you'd think and it's distributed over your body. It doesn't weigh one down terribly.

Goths new eco bonus of hunt fast and loom instant feels really good in dark and early feudal age. Having said that, Overtaken played really well with his macro and micro both, he was clearly faster player. Didn't go all in, pressured with xbows, added TC's and eco, and then defeated Franks, which is not easy on Arabia. Impressed, and now Goths seem viable civ to pick in open maps again. gg wp!
Shrivamsha riders absolutely dodge. You just don't see the animation; just like you don't see the 4 - 5 men it takes to operate an onager, scorpion, trebuchet, bombard canon, siege ram, or seige tower.
Rams can ram down a farm, fire doesn't do extra damage to buildings, vills can't fight with bows, missionaries can't carry relics, and tarkans still don't make noise and you're looking for accurate animation on a "dodge" mechanic that acts like a "charge." 😂😂
Imagine what that dodge animation would look like if 5 arrows were fired at 1 Rider. It'd be insane. 😮😅

Can someone explain. I don't play AOE2 and only watch the videos. I see that in the massive games where trees are everywhere people use siege weapons to make way and destroy trees. Why can't one of the players use the catapult to destroy trees instead of the walls, and also make it so the enemy has less resources?
You need Onager to cut trees i.e. need to upgrade from Mangonel. It is quite costly, 800 food 500 gold, so no one will click that upgrade only to cut enemy trees.
And you can only research in Imperial Age
A 4v4 game lasts longer and has more players so you see more onagers, while 1v1 games end faster so you see less of them
I think people play Franks like they used to, but instead trying other than knights or throwin axemen. In this case some more skirms could have done well, because there was no Goth horsies. And Franks have plenty of options. Is it a safe bet to invest to knights when playing Franks?

Showmatch/tournament idea: The power creep cup where the players play mirror civs, one plays the current version and the other plays the oldest version that has both unique techs

The reason Trush is dead isn't about those minor nerfs towers received, but the actual map generation. More teeny tiny woodlines rather than big ones which are a juicier target for a stationary form of offence. On top of that devs spaced out resources, there is no way to tower both lumberjacks and mills/mining camps with the same tower, in fact, even a chain of towers is impossible to be pulled off these days, it's too pricy. And lastly, the desertification makes any all-in committed offensive act impossible, your base is way too vulnerable for any counter-attack.
So. let's enjoy the booming-xbow meta that's going on these days, devs are clueless and we're sheeps pretty much.

Goth is just the best Civ - good for beginners because they get to understand how AoE2 works: spamming.. i just always fail to get to the spamming point. Wp from ot

Crazy how if you play against a civ that is likely to raid early and snowball than you need to get aggressive and raid to stop then doing it; so it ends up going the other way often.

Huscarl vs knights and axemen don't seem like a great option. Maybe for raiding, but i think he wanted to use the res for different things
Huskarls eat archers and tarpit towers and castles.
But they don't do much else.
Goths get decent archers, and eventually hand cannons, which back up cheaper infantry nicely, but struggle with pop cap, you can make an army inexpensively but you need so many houses to do so.
Meanwhile throwing axes kind of counter your army as a whole. But cost extra, so I presume with archer use you trim them down and support the Swords and Spear lines.
Your Calvary work fine. But will lose to franks.
But yeah. Huskarls are a powerful tool, but aren't going to beat anything the Franks want to use.
Huskarls against what, the famed Frankish crossbows? They're a niche unit and the niche was never going to be here.
Goths should lose hand cannoners and get siege engineers 🙌🏻
I'm very on the fence about giving Goths more buffs considering how borderline unstoppable they are in the late game.

Quick walling has to be the lamest thing in this game, seriously. Some of the people will defend it, but putting a house down to block someone in the last second is literally a desperation move that's arguably an exploit in the game if you ask me.
I just don’t want AOE2 to fall into the SC2 trench of constantly changing the game. There’s a point where tinkering becomes damaging.

Video 3 of proposing the age wars. 1 set of games consists of 1 game in each time, you can’t progress in time. If there is a tie, the tie breaker is a normal game, if there is a stalemate in dark or feudal, same civs again in castle.

Please get your co caster back so you don't ramble. You are a great color commentator, but we need someone who can call the play by play with authority, and you just ramble on. Please hook back up with your main announcer, whom I think is named dave.
they only really co-cast for tournaments. They each have their own channels and income streams, casting together wouldn't double views/income but would mean revenue would have to be split. Sorry, not at all realistic.
All that said, I also disagree with the premise of the statement. The whole point of these casts is entertainment and variety. It's fine to ramble or chat about random stuff when there's nothing going on in dark age.
