The Unusual Origins of Adult Swim's DECKER Explained

- Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington's "Decker" on Adult Swim is a hilarious spy parody (of sorts) in its own right -- But taking into account it’s surrounding context, its incredible how much effort was put into really earning the show’s “so bad its funny” approach. In case you didn’t know, what makes Decker unique is that it is a show written by and starring fictional characters from another show, On Cinema at the Cinema, on which the series’ entire production saga is discussed and documented. The goal for this video is to fill in those gaps for the first season, Decker Classified. AKA explain the origins of this show and where it came from.
Featuring --------------------
Tim Heidecker (Tim and Eric: Awesome Show, Great Job! Jordan Peele's Us, Tim Heidecker's Office Hours, Eastbound and Down, Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories, The Comedy)
Gregg Turkington (Neil Hamburger, Rick Alverson's Entertainment)
Joe Estevez (Decker: Port of call Hawaii, Decker vs Dracula, Decker Unclassified, Decker Unsealed, Decker Mindwipe, Doonby, Rollerblade 7)
Mark Proksch (What We do in the shadows, better call saul, the office)
Decker: Classified (Decker Season 1)

What are your favorite jokes from decker?
Decker's reaction to hearing that Dracula and his cronies are back is maybe the funniest moment in all of On Cinema history
How many seasons debate
Taking off his shirt and diving into the ocean at the Pearl Harbor tourist center to miraculously retrieve 75 year old dog tags was hilarious (uh I mean... somber, dramatic, and inspiring)
- I work for the mayor record label - i right to sing you up on the spot
- Talk to my agent, i already is, i am Cs I am agent of CIA
Decker's somewhat explicit liver operation on Kington who Decker claims has ruined it due to too much movie popcorn salt, much to the codebreaker's and actor's chagrin.
One of my favorite Decker jokes is in one of the later seasons, Tim apparently thinks Pearl Harbor is located in Japan despite the fact that he visited Pearl Harbor in season 2.
& that WWII was still happening in 1945 lol
@@redvelvetunderground There l was thinking that WW2 had actually ended in 1945 but thanks to the seemingly endless treasure trove of knowledge that l can pump my brian with here on the internet l get harder and harder to fool and it happens every day.
Dude and he gets the year wrong. Pearl Harbor happened December 7, 1941. He goes to Japan in 1945. Fucking hilarious!
It was until Tim changed history in "The Butterfly Effect" - S4 EP3, of Decker
The best aspect of Joe Esteves’ character is that he has apparently never seen a movie that he wasn’t acting in. Which makes him the ideal co-host for On Cinema movie reviews
on cinema is some of the best material on the internet. the Oscar specials are immense and the trial of Tim Heidecker is the cherry on top. Tim Heidecker is an absolute genius
absolutely agree, its unlike anything really
Oscer*
Tim has come a long way from Lightning Fast VCR repair. Good for him.
What?
@@jackkingsby116 He was a great employee. Now there’s these two hack frauds that work there named Mike and Jay.
He did a guest spot on redlettermedia @@jackkingsby116
I laughed a lot during this. Just something about how you describe these completely insane childish men with such serious and sophisticated vocabulary is very very funny.
Gregg isn't childish...
@@markh.9822 you're right, my apologies, he is a very serious movie expert with expertise
Tim Heidecker's acting feels like an all too real interpretation of every Steven Seagall movie post 2000
I'm a simple man, I see an Admiral Gorgg video on On Cinema, I smash the like button. 😊
It's an immediate must-watch
Same! Especially if it involves master code breaker Kingston!
Edit: I am a GreggHead
I know you wont be doing these on cinema videos forever, but when you move on I wish you nothing but the best. Your talent for this type of video is worthy of so much more than our little niche can give you.
very kind and very appreciated! definitely plan to make a bunch more OC videos
Real tim heads will absolutely demand this series is fleshed out
i will oblige
The proper terminology is Timcel, 'tim heads' is just stolen from us Greggheads much like Tim always steals Gregg's talent in movies.
I'm 43 and having hip replacement in the morning 10/17/23.. boy did I need a new Gorgg vid!!!!
wow, wishing you good luck hope all is well!
I'd give up my right hip for a copy of Hog Shots.
@@AdmiralGorgg man thanks. The last few months have been horrible due to the pain. I had to miss the Two Tim's st louis show cause I was using a cane then. But th ocatc universe has kept me upbeat. Love your channel hopefully tim and gregg see it someday
Good luck with your surgery! Hope your recovery is better than Mark’s! 😂 (in all seriousness I really hope you are well ❤)
Stay away from Doctor San!!!!!
One of the best so far, and that's saying a lot because I've loved them all! Thought the editing in this one was clever and on point! Go Gorgg!
Tim Heidecker is too good at putting on a humbly smug face! He's hilarious!
I’ve got eyes in the sky, a Birds Eye view
I loved On Cinema for what is was and loved the Specials too but Decker is what made me go whole hog and watch and rewatch and completely give in to the universe
Same, but The Trial played an equally important role. I first watched it not knowing the back story at all or even that On Cinema existed. It is so incredibly enriched by this.
Hog shots?
Something i deeply love is a Steven Segal character is NAMED Decker and he acts exactly how this show is paroding
That’s amazing I didn’t know that, Hollywood tipping its hat to decker yet again
@@AdmiralGorgg the movie is from a few years back but I'm sure it was after DECKER came out, I don't remember the title but all his movies kinda blend together anyway
Google tells me this is 2016, End of a Gun
"Throughout all of this, Gregg remains stubbornly attached to his particular objectives in film criticism ... " is just a gorgeous clause. 😂
Tim deserved everyone of those Poppy’s 🍿 🎞️📽️
Well written and funny as always. Great retrospective. I hope we get more of both Dekker and Gorgg.
thanks again! more decker vids on the way for sure
Gorgg analyzing the extra features of the Dekker v Dracula movie / debacle would be fire
I love that this started with the rise of RedLetterMedia too. They guys who did the starwars essay had Tim on one of the episodes. I love both of the shows.
Oh man there is so much here. Great video! I can't wait till you get to the trial!
Thanks for watching, I made one on the trial it’s up on my channel let me know what ya think!
The analysis of this world by a talented ytber and passionate fan of this amazing cinematic universe is long overdue. Thanks admiral!
very kind and thanks for watching! appreciate you, more to come
I've gone back and watched all your On Cinema videos and I gotta say, I'm a Gorgg-head now.
yes please continue talking about decker. would honestly love a video about the tripp spencer saga because that was such a fun development and argument between tim and gregg over a character that didn't even get to exist. idk how anyone could truly get stuck into on cinema's world without twitter because the first time my partner and i went through this series we had no idea who tripp spencer even was, then suddenly he's in the animated adventures of decker pilot instead of kington, lol
also my favorite running gag on decker is when tim or gregg break the fourth wall when something they don't like happens during filming. like gregg picking JB007 as a code (Tim: no pick a different code) or Gregg's disgust and anger whenever Dekkar or Dr. San end up being characters on Decker in the later series. It's so good
yes great call, definitely will be covering that. my plan as it stands is to eventually go through the whole saga through the animated pilot and deck of cards
I have never had twitter or facebook. I do love seeing these ridiculous tweets in this video. They help enrich the already rich storyline. Your name is super cool. I saw Phish do 'Loaded' as their Halloween costume in Vegas in 1998. One of the best performances I have ever seen. Yes Gregg's disgust with Dekkar and Dr. San is priceless. 5 bags.
Decker vs. Dracula was pretty sick.
Your content gives me hope
🫡
I love your videos! I love that you chronicle this for us .
The funniest single word Tim ever says is "access". Every time he says it I bust out laughing
Another great video. Thank you for all the work you put into these 🎉 Love On Cinema and love your analysis.
Glad you like them!
I'm a huge movie buff and I am excited to watch all your videos on this.
Whenever I see Jack Reacher I cannot help but always think of decker
YES, more Decker content please!
And yes do each season
You can tell Gorgg is a Gregghead, absolute hit piece 😤
Really enjoyed this
What's crazier to me is that so many movies today will unofficially tip their hat to DECKER. Which is fine, but we all know the real deal when we see it.
Another BANGER, was looking forward to a Decker video 🔥
Not sure how doable it is, but I would love an Admiral Gorgg history of the Victorville Film Archive/Film Center
Great suggestion!
@@AdmiralGorgg you could be the Ken Burns of Victorville movie history
Yeah please do a continuation of this I've always wanted to know the subtle connections between the seasons of decker and ocac. Please continue doing the Hawaii season and how it was all just part of his vacation. Great video
Thanks Will do! Decker vs hawaii video is in the works 🫡
Gutted I can't get hold of any of the later Decker episodes after DvD. I did get to see them when they were released, but I'd love to watch them again one day.
Another excellent video, admairl grorg. Keep up the god work.
I watched the Decker: Unsealed episodes recently on the Adult Swim app, no subscription required. Sucks to have advertisements though
I think I'm region locked because I'm not in the US @@InaneBlatherPodcast
Thanks appreciate you! All the episodes are on Hulu right now if you have that
@@DankMangus I'm region locked as well, but any VPN can solve that!
I love the bicycle overtaking Decker on his hog!
On cinema might be the greatest thing tim has ever done
Nothing makes me happier than opening a delicious can and watching Decker.
follow me on OnlyCans
great work, my brain shuts down whenever i try to articulate what exactly OCATC is
Anyone else think Decker looks like Stephen Baldwin?
Decker is like Steve Seagal today, but he can walk, throw a punch, and probably isn't dubbed over.
I'm sure I speak for many when I invite you ("implore you" might be more accurate) to make as many videos on as many aspects of the On Cinema world as you can. Cheers!
Kingston jumping out of the plane in Decker vs. Dracula will never not make me laugh
Gregg and Neil hamburger could not be more different. It's scary impressive
Doctoral degree in Heidecker Affairs
Thank You JJ Dennercker
Oh man, you gotta do season 2 of Decker. That was peak On Cinema!
Gregg is more of a buff than an expert.
Keep em coming son
when you got analysis like Admiral Gorgg in them , You Can't Lose !!!
You’re magic!!! ❤❤❤❤ thank you!!!!
Tim delivery in the intro gives me flashbacks to all of the us military guys iv ever seen on joe rogan.
Love the Darkplace shoutout; if you feel the need to branch away from OC I would love to watch your analysis of that series.
i'm definitely planning on it at some point!
Yessss!!! Yet another piece of media I cannot explain to my friends. I'm wearing a Garth Marenghi shirt as I write this
This channel is doing God's work in trying to convey this universe's epicness. I fear it's a fool's errand though!
it may be lol, but it must be done!
I am proud to say that I still have my sealed VHS copy of "Dracula vs Decker".
When the time is right, I will donate it to the Library of Congress for future generations to enjoy.
"I've accessed five."
I SAW DARKPLACE
YES another vid
This review is worth five bags of popcorn and one pile of burned VHS tapes!
Godfrey Daniel! This is awesome! Yes of course do more Decker. Somehow I had not seen that Preview Clip number 1. Preview 2 is one of my favorites, but preview 1 is awesome because President Davi(d)son never talks like that. I was dying laughing! Probably Forest Lawn.
So many people won't understand any of these shows.. it's their loss, literally the funniest stuff I've ever seen. The on cinema universe destroys the MCU or DCU, people nowadays just don't have the attention span to appreciate it
so true, well put. the DCU may have a joker but the on cinema universe has the real joker
Yess, this was great
Thanks!
This one is for the Deck-heads
deck heads unite baby
God I love these videos
Heitv needs a super cut of all the content with the decker eps, oscar special etc intercut with the on cinema eps
Great video
Thanks!
Dr San is with us!!
How did I never draw the connection between Decker and The West Wing??
9:20 *and Neil Breen, definitely his main influence for Decker.
I think the most important part of this video is about Gregg's coding system for VHS tapes which is discussed at 14:40 in the video. I would use this for my personal VHS home collection if it exceeded a milk crate in the corner of my room. I'm saving up to visit the VFA!
I think at this point On Cinema is probably one of the most complex and interconnected multimedia stories lol
Decker Port of Call Hawaii and Decker vs Dracula definitely deserve videos from admiral gorgg
I'm on it, pretty excited to make one on DvD especially
Do all season please!
🫡 will do
I clicked expecting a clickbait montage or ytp type of thing. Ended up watching an interesting essay on how On Cinema (which i've only watched parts of) is best watched in tandem with Decker. (which i have seen all of) also I think Decker takes a lot from Seagals character in "Marked For Death" (1990) and probably other action movies of the time
dude as a long fan of on-cinema and tim n eric awesome show i salute you for the work u done so that more normies can enjoy this universe
thanks! thats the goal at least, from the comments it seems like these have gotten a couple newbies into on Cinema which is more than i thought id accomplish right there lol
@@AdmiralGorgg as far as i can tell the big time for those videos are yet to come
Gorgg...Pleeeeease do Garth Marenghis Darkplace!!!

*EMILIO! EMILIO!*
The whole work is very tongue in somebody else's cheek.😂
I want LaRue to take a hard look at this Gorggle guy
23:12 ⭐
Bro you should break down the 2012 film 'The Comedy' (runtime 94 minutes, 5 bags, 2 cups) if you want. That is one of the best Tim performances I have seen. It might still be free on youtube.
such an interesting movie and i agree amazing performance... i have lots of thoughts and would be a fun vid to make, great suggestion thanks!
And it birthed on cinema universe
@@LemonTree9280 Did it? The podcast started in 2011. Great movie though. I need to watch it again.
@@illuminotmereloaded6896 tim and gregg started it during downtime in filming

I got the Oscar fever hope you got it too
On Cinema At The Cinema-tic Universe
Hey Gorgg, did you know Gregg's real wife plays the terrorist the gives gregg the spy vhs in hawaii and is the 1st ladies advisor in season 4? Good on cinema trivia
Are you kidding? This hit piece on one of the greatest action heroes in cinema is sad. Decker is a true patriot with a strong message that the founding fathers would love. The acting is spot on showing Tims range and versatility. The special effects in the dracula sequel were terrifying. I think you are seriously jealous. Perhaps a little decker derangement syndrome.
Hey guys
Bro pls cover the rest of the show
Twist my arm, I’ll get it done 🫡
Please tell me how I can view all the seasons of Decker!??? 🥺. I have only seen up to decker v dracula because the rest were on adult swim website and unavailable in my country
they are on hulu right now, you can probably grab a free trial and binge 'em if you don't have it
@@AdmiralGorgg I know what I'm doing this weekend. Shot bruv.
You say tim met Marc 2 months before the Oscar special he 1st features in, but is that true? I could swear it was Marc that played the bandleader with the tape recorder all the way back in tom goes to the mayor...I'm also 100% sure he shows up in a short recreation of Tom goes to the mayor that was on an episode of awesome show, where Eric as the mayor starts freaking out and beating his computer/desk because Marc/bandleader won't turn off his tape recorder music. I could be wrong....but I think I'm right!!
i will go to bed sleeping every night!
cover it all, please i beg you
i think i shall
