    Great video doc. The Collector records scene, since Covid, has moved to street pop ups. One of the best of wjich is on Sunday's at 140 Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights just across from Wall St. From 2 PM to 6 PM. Guy is cleaning out his overstuffed collection of 50's to early 80's British, gararge, indy rock, punk,
    Etc. Priices are like almost give away

    This was terrific, you guys! I've lived in this neighborhood for 50 years, and am so grateful that there are still a few good places left. You did a good job showing them to their best advantage. And of course, there was handsome Hudson, sweety dog extraordinaire.

      Blue Bird we are so glad our videos are bringing a piece of New York to you out in western Arizona. So much has changed since 1982 in the Village but lots of small unique businesses are still going strong 💪

    i love that corner, I used to always get flowers at the vegetable shop on bleeker , in the 80's , gone now, ifc used to be just an old movie theater , I saw my first movie in nyc there .. earaserhead..

      Cheryl Pyle thank you so much for the love! We remember the Vegetable Shop and also when Joe’s Pizza 🍕 was located right next door to it. Joe told us that the building owner not only raised his rent forcing him to move around the corner but also demanded a 1.5 million dollar guarantee if he stayed.

    Awesome history behind that espresso machine. Will need to try that espresso slush - sounds great!

    • @JamesandKarla
      @JamesandKarla  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that espresso machine is a piece of functional art. We still wish they used it but glad at least that they kept it in a place of honor inside the cafe. And yes that espresso slush was just the thing to have on a hot day!

    My father owned Rocco’s Restaurant on Thompson in the 60s. Have fond memories of forcing him to take me to Zilch, on Thompson, the boutique owned by Davy Jones of The Monkees. I seem to remember the doorknobs were big Zs. Sadly he wasn’t there, but I still have the Barnabas Collins type ring that I purchased there that day...

      poppynurse that is so cool! Is your uncle named John? We interviewed Anthony DaSilva in the early 2000s when we photographed Rocco Ristorante for our book “New York Nights” and he mentioned his uncle John. Our photo and interview with Anthony appear in our book. We are glad our video brought back fond memories of the neighborhood 😀

      James and Karla No, its was Victor. Probably pre-John. I also remember being there when they had a feast at a nearby church, when they walked with a statue (a ?Madonna, not sure). And walking by the Night Owl hoping to see John Sebastian or Peter Tork, although I don’t remember what block it was on. And the Derby Steak House on MacDougal St. My grandparents landed in GV from Italy, the steak house was formerly a grocer. My father would frequent it. The restaurant had a photos of the old grocery shop with the black and white tiled floor, posted behind the bar. The owner was Andrew. I think its long gone.

    I would like to find out what percent of the mom and pop places , since you started streaming 3 years ago, were forced to close because of the pandemic . Here in Milwaukee WI a lot of places closed .
