Interesting video. I wonder if they check the MFT serial numbers against ones that have been reported from Sparky vans as stolen and then inform the police. It would help stop the theft of test equipment.
Ah, as others have said, the joys of calibration of the calibration equipment. Accuracy, tolerance, uncertainty budgets, traceability, and accreditations. I ran a Cal lab for part of a Govt agency in Aus. Our accreditation was days and weeks of "interrogation". Seeing the facilities and equipment in the higher level calibration and standards labs was amazing.
Same day cal is good. I use to work at a lab that did calibrations as a side gig(fully accreited but not a core part of the business. Half the cals done were for internal use). You would be lucky if we even looked at your equipment within the first week of it arrriving
i mean out of sight they do a 100% job anyway, just less glamorous. :p idiots judge labor not by final product but by the glamour so.. KEEP YER CUSTOMERS OUT OF THE WORK AREA!
The most ironic thing is, the calibration equipment that calibrates your megger... Also needs to be calibrated! HAH! It's not like you can just buy one of them to keep at home and calibrate your own equipment. Eventually you need to calibrate the calibrator! HEheheheheh.
I was thinking the other day, what makes a level, level. Like do they have a big calibrated level in the stabila factory and what and how exaxtly was it calibrated 🤔
@@davey6024 Different technologies. Shenanigans. Small levels can never be accurate because their reference surface is always limited. The easiest way is to first get a super flat surface (i.e. granite plate) and run a bearing ball on top of it. It needs to not go in any direction and to not drift when rolled. You can use lasers and fancy other technology to get the "level" also. You can also get a 4-way connected set of tubes. Just get all 4 corners of the table to be at the same "height" as in the tubes. Water will always be 'level' from tube to tube if they're all connected, thanks to gravity.

If that X1 is anything like the Metrel with the full colour screen, you'll be forever recharging the battery. For battery powered meters like this, full colour screens are a downgrade.
Nice to see a video of the calibration centre loads of electricians online have great service from there and paul constantly gets tagged in posts due to the great service he provides
Question why not just use one of those test boxes where you can check the resistance and insulation test. Surely it's cheaper to send the test box once a year to test your own meter. I just had a quote of £89 for my tis pro.
I think it’s once a year, as often as you’d get the MFT tested. some small local firms, rather than send 5 testers off 1 by 1 to get calibrated and interrupt 1 of the 5 workers testing as a result, instead they can calibrate all their MFT’s whenever, and all they gotta do is send the calibrator off instead, interrupting no one testing
11:01 That new Megger looks like a Fisher-Price kids toy. You've got to think what a prat you'll look when you turn up on site. I wouldn't be seen dead with it.
Do customers actually give a toss what tester you have, the only bad impression you can generally give is turning up in a battered picky van and youre arse hanging out you’re trousers and a pair of ally steps covered in plaster.
Got to laugh as the company MFT is still waiting to come back from going for calibration over two weeks ago. My personal one had a 24hr turnaround. I don't use our suppliers calibration service.
Anything above 400v will damage smokes, led lights, basically anything with a circuit board don’t IR test at 500v with electronic equipment in circuit.
Yes and no. The IR testers are limited, typically to 1mA. Any electronics will typically draw enough current to run the meter it to its current limited zone so the voltage won't actually be anything like 500V if there's a load on the circuit.

A genuinely fascinating video. Thanks Nick.

Haha stored in the system as "nick bundy TH-cam electrician" so the staff working on nicks testers know to do an A1 job 🤣

Yes, it's like the age old question: What came first, the chicken or the egg?

Yeah but what callibrates the callibrators that callibrate the callibrators?

that new meggar looks like a fisherprice toy.
They do calibration days at our wholesaler… trouble is they have these days 9-10 months apart so robs us of the last two months 😂

That looks like a V2 Microscope from NorthridgeFix.
How often is the calibration machine calibrated ? Serious question ☘️
Depends on the equipment's cert. Some require annual or biannual recalibration.

You're joking right. I'd love to own one.

they never give your bloody rechargeable battery back tho
Megger interesting so where abouts in Stafford are they... Ahhh there on tollgate ind est

Ooo does it play xBox or PS5 games?

I self calibrate , such a ripoff paying every year
Great vid!

A licence to print money.
To me this is just verification. They charge extra for real calibration, which means adjustments to get the unit back into spec
More aposematism needed with high tech instruments otherwise it gets confused with Lego..

Why are you walking round with screwdrivers in your pockets
I’m an electrician, went to do this video between jobs
What a stupid question to ask jack b. I suggest you unsubscribe and F**K off
Your one of them sparks mate
He was going to go out in his Jag after this video. So that he can borrow stuff, he needed his screwdrivers to be able to let himself in.
