If you are in browser or plugin mode and want to switch to MIDI template mode, press the MIDI Settings button while holding down shift. That way there is no need to unplug the USB connection to get to template mode. You can also hold down shift while turning the scroll wheel to page through the presets in browse mode, instead of scrolling through one at a time.
Informative video, thanks! With regard to your external midi notion: if your working inside your DAW this wouldn't be an issue right? As you can just trigger the external instruments (hardware) in your daw and then instantly switch to soft synths also I assume?
I believe that in the Maschine software you can control the Midi configuration . without the need of disconnecting the USB and inserting the charging cable
Nice video. Cool studio also. I had a double raven setup a while ago. Got rid of them and got a 43 inch touchscreen that I currently use. Just got my s61 mk3 today, haven’t opened the box yet. Have to get some tech support for my mk2 before I send that one out, then I’ll incorporate the new one. Excited to work with it. 🎹♥️
I have fl key 49 almost the same :) perty. Yeah the unexpected thing on the NI keyboards is that they initialize online. Very nice... the LCD looks nice. Yeah with scripting and plugin global linking etc.. these make the experience more kinaesthetic and enjoyable imo. So does the knob act as a normal jog wheel also. I use my qcon g2 as my main transport and jog wheel. IMO jog wheels also have a certain amount of enjoyment. That almost looks like it is the jog wheel with the direction keys all in one dial... if so that is neat. I have seperate buttons for the direction keys and zoom etc.. adding the wheel and direction keys together was a neat thing the NI Kontrol S61 has if so.
If you didn’t use MK2 and can’t speak to the functionality that was removed then this review is highly biased imo. We should also NEVER see a review of this keyboard that fails to mention it does not have a midi template editor (standard in every prior version). This means the keyboard is of minimal use with any non-NKS plugins and hardware. I understand being excited with a new purchase and do not mean any disrespect. But this keyboard is terrible imo and does way less than the MK2 for an even higher price.
@@mjrisinsd6836 I agree, how on earth can they release a $1300 MIDI controller (I have the S88MK3) that has no capability to create MIDI templates (the foundation of a MIDI controller). And if you are a Maschine user then it's even more bad news. These keyboards are amazing, but otherwise tarnished by these two important facts. Not to mention lack of key zones (outside of Kontakt) and the ability to control the light guide (outside of Kontakt / Reaktor).
@@domancayoutube thanks man, I installed the update yesterday. The on-board template editor is awesome, as are the key zones. They are releasing a new version of the Maschine software soon, let’s hope they were able to add a level of integration in it.

This is the first kontrol keyboard I've owned and so far, I'm loving it.
@@RadiumRecordsHollywood then the MK2 would have blown your mind. Not right what NI did.
