@collgoff In 20 years, we'll have something that's far more superior than blu rays. I don't give a rats arse about streaming as theg don't give you the features that physical media gives.
I'm still a collector at heart. I don't think physical media will completely go away, I think it will just evolve to being a niche for collectors and go back to the ways of Laserdiscs that very few people had and was only enticing for the collectors market.
Totally agreed. Streaming is not reliable enough in my opinion; sure it's fine for 90% of the movies out there, but for classics and favorites I still want to have my own copies available any time I want. I also don't trust the streaming companies to not dramatically jack up their prices once they control all content available to us.
People who simply stream movies, are simply casual film fans. If they were real movie buffs, they would know that PC censorship is destroying the movies of the past, and are now only available to stream in their edited version. And there are very few past movies that will be completely free of censorship. Also, a lot of streamers are realising that despite multiple subscriptions to streaming services, they can often never find a particular movie they wish to watch on any of these services. A friend of mine says he regularly has to visit TH-cam or illegal streaming sites to find many movies, DESPITE having subscriptions to Apple TV, Amazon prime, paramount, Netflix and Disney. Insane..... Physical collectors will have the last laugh
You hit the nail on the head….. it’s all about control and once the companies know you have no alternative the will raise rates too Poop idea all the way around to stream. The only benefit is space saving. Takes less room. Other than that…. It will be less options, more money, and definitely defiantly more censorship So tired of the PC garbage culture we live in. Screw ppls feelings
Agreed. There’s so many older shows & movies that are impossible to get access to outside of dvd due to either companies losing their licenses or because of licensing greed where multiple companies own a show or mouth & can’t decide which one of their streaming services to put it on because then the other owners get mad because they won’t make enough money. Look at South Park constantly changing between it’s 2 companies’ streaming services which is why there was a whole war between the 2 companies trying to get streaming rights to it which I think Warner bros might’ve won but idk.
What I don’t understand is why these studios are doing it to themselves. The marvels tanked, Indiana Jones 5 tanked, almost every Disney movie in 2023 tanked & the reason is not only cause of their content being meh, but because of streaming. Why go pay more if you can just watch it at home for free? Then they wonder why their movies are bombing at the box office & why they’re losing so much money. They’re doing it to themselves which takes away from the movie feeling special or feeling like an event but also takes away from people’s interest if they can just watch it a few weeks or a month or 2 later when it immediately goes to streaming. It’s a sad state these companies are in but they’re doing it to themselves when the simple solution would be to not count on streaming anymore & just leave it to Netflix to be the only streaming service as well as Hulu & Amazon prime.
THIS is the point. By ending sales of private physical sales they have total control over the movie media we watch and how it’s censored in the future. The same will happen with physical print media for the same reason. I’ve been buying important books and movies for a few years because I’ve felt this was coming. Crazy or not, I’m glad I still have a cassette player and tapes, a turntable and records, 8-track and tapes to listen to the music of my life and VHS and DVD to watch the movies that are important to me.

Same. I’ll no longer be going there. TVs? Oh please, you just need to get a tv once in your life at least, unless you want to upgrade or something happens to it, then you go to IKEA or target or wherever because many stores sell them. Screw Best Buy. They’re so foolish, cause that’s one of their biggest sources of income due to DVDs changing every month with new movie releases & even shows after their seasons or series wrap up.
Vinyl was also sent to the grave as was CD's, now look at them, massive sales and so will Blu-ray's bounce back, it's all about market trends and demand created by prosperous economy.
Sadly my local video store is closing out by the end of the month and sold all the DVDs as of now it’s only a mini mart from their half of the store. Been a member since the mid-90s and it holds so much memories renting videos, DVDs, and video games. I’d rather go back to DVDs, which I am slowly getting to, than pay so much for streaming monthly.
I feel outraged that they’re making this decision which is NOT okay to me personally because I still love DVDs and collecting them. I don’t want everything to be digital or digital copies forever, this must be prevented indefinitely because this I am extremely concerned and disappointed with their decision, my voice must be heard please, WTF!?!? 😬🤬
Fr, but what can we do? Other than just keep buying dvds from Amazon or from the actual stores instead of digital. I don’t think there’s much else we can do to change their mind. But to each their own, Best-Buy is going to regret it. That’s one of their biggest sources of income which is why it doesn’t make sense to me, TVs get bought very rarely, cause you buy at least one in your entire life unless you want to upgrade or unless your tv gets damaged somehow. But with dvds, they change & get new theater releases as well as shows that finished their seasons or ended their series every month on dvd. It’s the only thing (minus action figures although those aren’t in every Best Buy) that changes & gets newer things to keep people interested almost every month. When best buy goes out of business & I’m sure it will after this, they are going to regret it.

This is so wrong. Now the prices for streaming will go up, people are going to miss more shows and movies because they won't be able to afford. And now they are going to put all those people who create the dvds out business. Not to mention that stores selling them are going to lose profits. It's just wrong and sad.
Not to mention movies like Austin Powers or like Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory that got their revenue from dvd & physical copies that made them turn into classics will no longer exist. Movies that lost money at the box office usually would then make that money back from dvd sales if they failed to get the money they used for the budget back. Also Disney lost about 200 million dollars on the little mermaid remake due to it underperforming. I wouldn’t be surprised if more movie companies will start to file for bankruptcy & go out of business if dvds just stop existing. Not to mention all the future possibility of classics we’ll miss out on. Like DC’s DCAU movies & the Tomorrowverse movies that were straight to dvd movies or like Curse Of Chucky & Cult Of Chucky. Cause it’s like impossible to find movies in streaming because you don’t know what to look for & then there’s like 500 things left & right & then when they get removed they’re removed for forever. The reason for having my own copies is that streaming services are not yours. I “buy” a digital copy from a service but once I leave the service I lose my digital copy. When I buy a DVD it’s mine. Also, and more importantly, if I have the original copy, unlike a streaming or digital version, it can’t be changed later for social/cultural purposes to make everyone happy. I bought several classics (as well as books) after 2018 to be sure that I had them before they were pulled or changed forever. I guess I’ll be buying more in the near future.
Why can’t everyone else in the world just stop streaming and go back to dvd’s? 2017 ruined it! They ruined it too! This is why streaming shouldn’t have existed! Why streaming why?! Having physical copies makes more sense so you won’t have to be empty handed with nothing in your house so you can pick something to watch without having to scroll thru menus like Disney+ for example, (which sucks also) also Netflix stopped being fun in 2015, why can’t it not have any of its own shows? People need to stop streaming. Hulu Amazon prime video Netflix and Disney+ gotta go

I think what would help is if you could also download a non-DRM-locked copy for storage on a local home server, so that you control what you are buying.
I have over 3,000 movies (DVDS, Blu-rays and 4Ks) and I will keep building my collection which started in 1999 with snap case copy of Goodbye Lover. 24 years invested and you'll be able to get them cheaper online, especially from Shout Factory, Arrow, Criterion, Synapse, Umbrella, Vestron, on Amazon and E-bay or simply at Target, Walmart, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Family Dollar and any remaining FYE locations. I really don't buy anything from Best Buy anyways. I just got my new dishwasher from Brandsmart for $249 for a $1099 originally priced, plus they do delivery, installation and haul away for $129, when Best Buy charges, $99 for delivery for appliances below $399 and online I think its $179 for installation and delivery. Best Buy went from quality store to pointless store. Sucks but what are you gonna do about it.
I’ll tell you what to do…. Stop going to Best Buy lol If enough ppl stopped going they’d go outta business or change their model. Simple Ppl just have no kahunnas today
If people bought more DVDs and blu-rays, stores would keep selling them. Stop complaining with your keyboards and complain with your wallet. If you want to fight everything switching to digital you need to be willing to go purchase the movies and tv shows you love on physical media. When you purchase a digital copy of something, you're on borrowed time. As soon as a streaming service loses the rights to that content - you do too. I've had my digital purchases on amazon be completely erased - and there's nothing you can do about it. I tried. So I don't buy digital movies or tv shows anymore. If I want something, I'll buy it on blu-ray. If I have to get it digitally because there was no dvd release, then I will make sure it ends up on a hard-drive so I can keep it. Then I make backups too in case of hardware failure. A little bit of diligence and time will mean you get to keep your purchase as long as you want to.
They're slowly fading physical Media out of circulation. Only thing that'll still stay are ones that have already been made and been sold, anything new will be streaming only.
More then ownership, quality is really concerning, imo only apple and maybe vudu have good enough compression to look similar to the disc. But with many discs going over 30mbps and the 4k discs over 50 the quality of streaming just can’t compete
Movies and TV shows are beginning to stream like on Disney +, Peacock, and Paramount + it has gone in a big expansion so now dvd's would likely disappear overtime.
Ah they’re just saying bye bye to DVDs, not to Blu-ray or 4K discs??? Physical media will always be able to buy no matter what, cos the movie companies know it’s one of the best ways they’re making money on. Old ways are the best ways. But saying that, I wish that they use flash drives instead of discs, as they can’t get scratched, etc. and take up less space.
I still buy DVDs. CDs, and even records and tapes. Go to just about any Goodwill, or thrift store, and you can find numerous copies, of nearly all popular movies. Plus there are many record stores still around that sell new ones in all kinds of formats.
I'm a big history buff and love movies based on true stories. It's sad that I had to subscribe to Apple TV just to be able to watch their epics Greyhound, Emancipation, Napoleon, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Masters of the Air because they have no plans to release these titles on DVD or Blu-ray anytime soon and likely never will. I'm disappointed and that Scorsese and Spielberg would agree to this nonsense especially after they both made critical comments about streaming services ruining cinema.
I don't think so. Blu-ray and DVD are getting to be less common. You can still get Blu-rays of stuff through boutique labels. But it seems like 4K Blu-ray is really being pushed hard by studios and quite a few of these restorations look really nice. That said, I find an Apple copy looks almost as good and is most times significantly cheaper.
I have more than 1000 dvd and blu ray , a wonderful collection of 2000 classical cd and all the legendary rock albums on vinyls…and you know what I had never paid a subscription to a streaming platform in my life and I have not enough time to enjoy all my collection.
Robin i know this is off topic, but its on my heart to ask how you been feeling? So much going on in our world. This world needs to show they care and show love. I just want to say I've always loved you and pray the best for you, and all dealing with health or anything right now
@@meahdahlgren6537 very, I love buying CD’s, blu-rays, and DVD’s. Because streaming movies doesn’t always have a movie you want to see all you have to pay for it to see it.
I cannot see them becoming extinct. As long as the movie companies are making money selling them, they will keep producing them. But it will probably get like how CDs are where they're just not the premiere format and most people will buy digitally out of convenience and/or lowered cost. I went all-in on Apple since I already use them for music and I love using the app on my Rokus. The real nail-in-the-coffin will be when Sony and Panasonic stop producing players. Sony and Microsoft are already beginning to remove the disc drives on game consoles.
Box office movies and Nostalgic movies must buy psysical media for collectors, coz psysical movies has there own history era and many memories with your family.
I agree with DVD movies because of one basic fact is that movies on DVD are way worth every penny and the same fact is that some places don’t even have any internet access without paying an arm and a leg for internet but then you have to pay for the subscription to watch them on a smart tv with dvd disc format which is way better and cheaper to watch them over and over again so the companies don’t really know how hard it is out there for people who love movies to buy them on DVD or blu ray when prices go up on streaming services and I know for a fact as well when you watch them on a streaming service they are always buffering so during the movies you watch it will get in a quarter of the movies and it just buffers to try to get a connection is just plain annoying boring and stupid and that’s when you have reached your data limit and there goes your internet bill that shoots skyrocketing prices on the internet bill but with DVD you don’t have this kind of problem as long as you take care of the disc and clean the DVD player laser you are good to go but if your dvd player laser is bad it’s easier to buy a replacement laser and install it yourself I’ve done that on my own dvd and other dvd players for people very easy to install I think it’s ridiculous for streaming service platforms
Even school books are going away. It's kind of sad, but they don't have a math book or a history book etc. It's all on Chromebook, or packets that the teacher hands out. Yes, they still read books and do book reports. I imagine eventually that'll be done online as well. I remember when a new school year would start and we would have to cover our school books to protect them and we would use paper grocery bags. Well, kids don't have to do that anymore because they don't have school books.

I would love to buy movies in disks if I had the space for it..There is a limit of owning stuff..😔
They are not the the only fish in the sea.
Why? People Still Buy Them!
Well its a good thing i haven't shopped at best buy, since i was a kid. Lol
Lol. Well I only go to Best Buy for dvds so I guess that’s it now, I’ll have to stop going there completely. Cause what else am I gonna buy? Why would you need to buy TVs if you buy one once & then won’t need to replace it unless you want an upgrade or unless it gets damaged? Or phone chargers are the same thing. Dvds change every month with new theaters releases or shows that have finished their seasons on tv & go to dvd after meaning with dvds you have a reason to keep going to best buy because of it. They’re going to regret this awful decision & when they go bankrupt & close down because of this … it’ll be their fault.
@@packedentertainment2866 I agree
Best Buy Sucks Because Of Prices,Way Too High For Most Stuff!
Yeah not worried. My stuff gonna play for a long time. Twister...if it din't get 4K, I will be greatly surprised.
We are some democracy - We fans dont even get a vote
I think what would help is if you could also download a non-DRM-locked copy for storage on a local home server, so that you control what you are buying.
Home server? You mean on your hard drive lol.
Stop going to Best Buy lol
If enough ppl stopped going they’d go outta business or change their model. Simple
Ppl just have no kahunnas today
I sell random things on ebay, you have any advice on what collector's like you are looking for?
It's about time. Physical media has been declining for a long time, it's only a matter of time before they stop making DVD and Blu ray players.
More then ownership, quality is really concerning, imo only apple and maybe vudu have good enough compression to look similar to the disc. But with many discs going over 30mbps and the 4k discs over 50 the quality of streaming just can’t compete
DVDs only its lunnacy to discontinued Blu ray disc,/4K Ultra HD Blu ray.
2:04 This is NOT how DVDs are supposed to work...
That Twister dvd price is just stupid
complete exaggeration you can buy it for £4.99. brand new factory sealed.
That's some B.S. Get rid of DVD's sure. But keep those Blu-Rays or 4K discs
Best Buy may soon be extinct......
I’m going to start buying physical media from now on
I don't think so.
"Only Buy noo longr haw audios ar widdjoos...ah, soo thej'w diesceidedd tou tschaeny their naem tou Office Depot ar Office Max ar Staples, eh?"
In 1997, DVD was the future.
In 2024, DVD is so 1997.
I hope not, i'm a little vintage and i need to have some titles physically, even i'm waiting for a red white royal blue bluray collectors edition
That WAS the only reason I went into Best Buy. Oh well
I doubt it
I have more than 1000 dvd and blu ray , a wonderful collection of 2000 classical cd and all the legendary rock albums on vinyls…and you know what I had never paid a subscription to a streaming platform in my life and I have not enough time to enjoy all my collection.
Full time Hamiltonbooks here i come 😊
he said "listed" not payed for
There will always be small run botique releases, just as vinyl never stopped releasing.
Robin i know this is off topic, but its on my heart to ask how you been feeling? So much going on in our world. This world needs to show they care and show love. I just want to say I've always loved you and pray the best for you, and all dealing with health or anything right now

@@meahdahlgren6537why can’t dvd’s be saved? 2017 killed the fun
@@meahdahlgren6537 very, I love buying CD’s, blu-rays, and DVD’s. Because streaming movies doesn’t always have a movie you want to see all you have to pay for it to see it.
Come on technology needs to evolve
I cannot see them becoming extinct. As long as the movie companies are making money selling them, they will keep producing them. But it will probably get like how CDs are where they're just not the premiere format and most people will buy digitally out of convenience and/or lowered cost. I went all-in on Apple since I already use them for music and I love using the app on my Rokus. The real nail-in-the-coffin will be when Sony and Panasonic stop producing players. Sony and Microsoft are already beginning to remove the disc drives on game consoles.
They will become extinct because the demand for them is low, just like any other technology.
I hate you best buy
It’s not fair there not Selling Blu-Rays & DVDs from Best Buy.
Box office movies and Nostalgic movies must buy psysical media for collectors, coz psysical movies has there own history era and many memories with your family.
In the new world you will own no movies. It's all streaming.
Agreed 👍 as shown on 1:22-1:28.
I just looked at ebay brand new sealed twister from 1987 and 1986 do not sell for thousands.
fairy tales its £4.99 lol
Eventually books will go extinct as well. Everything is all digital
We can’t let that happen.
Books will never go extinct. The tactile satisfaction of turning a page is something that is too ingrained into human consciousness.
@@jengibs I hope you're right. My public library is very important to me.😊
