  • Jonny and Tony from Gamify come into the Tank and make a splash. Their gamification business makes branded, personalized video games for companies and they’re here asking us for 200k for 10% of their business. With some big names under their belt including KFC and Air New Zealand, they have created a software system that allows them to quickly make video games that can easily interact with customers. Gamification is pretty big right now in the marketing realms - will the Sharks agree?

An international sensation, Shark Tank AUS features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Tank from our Sharks, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

@@OOXHattoriHanzoXOO I certainly would, the other fella is just a money man, the only thing he brings to the table is money and the connections he can/has purchased with it.
The business world is full to bursting with these got-rich-quick/trust fund VC’s who think that having millions of dollars means you’re worth millions of dollars-in reality folks get lucky all the time, getting a pile of cash is no verification of a person’s business acumen. Tony built something, johnny just has the money. That’s an important part of business, to be sure, but it certainly does not qualify their business savvy. Quite the opposite, actually, as usually the money people are quite out of touch with consumer desires-they probably couldn’t tell you what a gallon of milk costs

I think Jonny tried to slide Tony under the bus with that 20%. "Subject to due diligence that it's vetted it would get to $50 Million" you could get a lot better than 20%. Hurts Jonny too but at this point the whole company has to be sold for Tony to make anything significant.

In effect they would both have needed to agree for it to work (31.5% plus 20% = 51.5%, which is enough to pass an Ordinary Resolution to issue fresh shares to Janine - assuming that an OR is the correct mechanism for that - without having to rely on other existing shareholders’ support).

Although they dont seem to ask many of the important questions we hear on American Shark Tank like cost of customer acquisition, any debt the company may have, plans on how theyre going to build the company, distribution, they ask cost of product and retail price but weirdly never ask how much they sell it to the reseller for or wholesale price.

If the assets need to me made, that is another 10-15 hours - but for a game that should be produced that quickly you could just take an asset pack for a couple of bucks.
That comes down to a total of 20-30 hours. At a modest freelancing rate of 30€/h, you will get that game for around 800 bucks.
Making variations of that game now only means to swap some assets, which means for another 100 bucks you get a similar looking game ontop.
If the game should play differently, then some game design is needed, creating concepts, prototyping them, iterating over them etc will take more time.

Ask them about the ratings from the players they ascertained, don't focus on the simple number of 'beta testers'. 1/4 The price in 1/4 The time (Yeah, right) for 1/1600 The quality...also, he was still offered investment money from that demo of a poor excuse of a title....

That guy, good on him for not doing it, he believes in his product and he will make that money even though I think it be extremely hard to see them making that much money so quickly on the games they are making.
I know people are bashing the shark lady but in all honesty she was polite and nice about it and in all honesty going into this sort of business is very difficulty, there are companies that would make ocean of money and go bust. Just look at Midway who were the original developers for Mortal Kombat. Despite the huge success the whole company still went bust. She is taking a big risk and it is her money and at the end of the day in business, if you can, you don't always look for fair especially with strangers. You would look for the best deal, period, she was admitted not knowing the stuff in this business, heard the money and took her chance to try and get a big slice of it. No one is forcing them to accept it and if this is the offer she wanted to make then it's fair enough and she was open to negotiate, it's stil better than being shot down not having an offer because an option is still an option.
The other guy was a bit too desperate and ega. I hope they be ok after this because the other guy might be losing trust for obvious reason in terms of the sales guy's opinions because he clearly wasn't ok with it. I actually thought the Shark was ok because if she was truly brutal she wouldn't even mention him being uncomfortable, she could of just kept talking a bit more to get the other guy to buy more and more into it to try and sway the other guy but didn't. Though I'm certain she has her doubts about the business for obvious reasons too, gaming business makes loads but even then can still go bust.
The chap well done to him though, followed his passion and he is now in success. Lets hope he can prove that the shark's made a bad choice not investing in him for the 10%.
