The girls made their major label debut in 2017 (March 24) with "THE LOVEBITES EP". Lovebites are playing mainly power metal, but they touch on several other styles. Their live performances are incredible! Best metal band in the world. My favorite all-time band. They're amazing. The more you hear, the more astonished you'll become. The talent level is unreal. In addition to Midori and Miyako on guitars, you have Haruna on drums, Miho (or now Fami) on bass, and Asami on vocals. All of them are unbelievable. They're not just power metal, but also thrash, speed, progressive. Love them. I hope you check out some more performances from them. Stand and Deliver is my favorite off of the new album. Where to even begin with their live performances? I suppose I'd suggest Break the Wall live from 2020.

true - english is not asami's first language. but she does speak it very well although when you have the lyrics then you get it a lot more. but i would say with most metal bands you might understand half of the lyrics anyway. or less. bestest most badass band of beautiful babes to ever exist.

Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing. In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. As a hard rock/heavy metal guy myself I would say Lovebites is the one true metal band from Japan that's all talent and killer riffs and no annoying vocals or over the top crap I've noticed with pretty well all the other ones. Except Band-Maid, they kick ass too. Lovebites is #1 in my books.

Just to clarify something MinstrelBlood said in the live chat, in order to see Destrose videos that include both members of Lovebites (drummer Haruna and bassist Miho) AND the member of Nemophila (guitarist Saki), you will have to watch at least two different videos (which you usually do anyway), as Saki's time in Destrose did not overlap with the time period that Huruna and Miho were there. I'm not schooled enough on Destrose to know which songs came from which lineup, but hopefully some others can make suggestions that cover both eras.
Unfortunately there are no recordings of Destroze with Saki now (they have been removed). Saki played briefly in Destrose (2009/10). I would definitely recommend Skykiller. There you can see how much Saki was ahead of other guitarists and only HAL-CA caught up with her in playing speed.
When it comes to Lovebites or Band Maid, always watch the live version. Also, that Dean guitar is a signature model for Miyako (that guitarist, who is main songwriter).
That is not a Dimebag Dean. Miyako has her own signature guitar with Dean Guitars. And if you look closely, you will see Miyako is around the end of her second trimester of her pregnancy in this concert. I’m in awe of this musician.

She is phenomenal in every way. Though not Darrell's 'Dimebag signature' model, it is the model he chose to play that later became his 'signature' model, right?
@@dregeye I'm not sure if i missunderstood your question about Dimebag's guitar, but I know for sure that Miyako has her own signature guitar though Dean. As for the time line in Miyako's trimester... I will have to double check when she gave birth. She posted on her social media when the baby was born. She never did get very big during the pregnancy.
She has her own signature guitar from Dean, yes, but apparently there is a lawsuit flying around about it as well as another model she plays that Dean makes. Dean was apparently sued by Gibson for making the Flying V model that is the body for Miyako’s signature guitar, along with them making a model that she plays (not her signature line), based off of the body used in the Gibson Explorer. So her Flying V signature model may be the only one in existence.
@@dregeye Let's not forget that when Darrell was murdered, he was playing Washburn guitars and had a signature model or two through them. Neither company, Dean or Washburn, sells Darrell's signature models anymore. I don't think they have for a long time now.

It's not the water or any thing ingested. It's the culture!! The arts are still taught in the school, talent is recognized early and encouraged. Piano lessons can start as early as 3 yo!!! Miyako, black hair, on guitar started at 3 on the piano. When she was 18 she choose to go into Rock/Music and play the guitar. She is self taught, NO Lessons, and the first riffs she learned and played were from Metallica!! Midori, blond hair, began guitar lessons at 20yo. She also attended a vocational school to learn how to build guitars. One she built is for sale in a Tokyo guitar shop, NOT Cheap. There is a neighborhood that is just music stores and Miyako made a tour video of the shops. Did some guitar playing, TOO. Miyako has her own YT channel and there are a number of episodes of her explaining how she has customized them.

As you are discovering Japan, is from a different planet. A lot has to do with their education system. Compared to the west it may seem terribly draconian but when it comes to music lessons they appear to treat this subject as important as maths and english in the west.

Awesome, you reacted to them. Haruna, the drummer is 4' 9". I rest my case. Her double kick, fills, and cymbal work are always on point... the driving force behind the band. M&M talent speaks for itself, Asami's soaring voice always just above the music where it should be, and new bassist Fami is freaking phenomenal. To me, they are the Big 4, Testament, Maiden, Priest, Helloween, and a sprinkle of Motorhead all in one, yet modernized and play at Lovebites speed. It doesn't get any better than this for me. @JustDunk, I just watched part of your "Drum Sessions" LIVE from 4 days ago, starting at about 11min. Very nice drumming! I now imagine that you will continually be fascinated by Haruna's transition work, fills, cymbal accents, etc. As much as I appreciate the guitarists (I play guitar and drums, mostly) it was Haruna's unique (to me) style, her use of precision dbl-kicks as 'fills' while using her extensive array of quick-decay china/splash/crash/bell in melodic ways that got me watching songs repeatedly, over and over. I am 'working on it' on electronic kit (bedroom) and acoustic kit (front room) daily (interspersed with trying to change my picking technique toward 'palm-muting'. (it's been a challenge!) 5 virtuosos who play to their limits. They have an exhilarating approach to song composition. They aim to make each album to a higher technical standard than the previous one. Then, having written the piece, each member practices and practices until it is no longer a challenge. Then, having recorded the piece, when the time comes, even though some question whether they can pull it off, they incude it in the live set…making it look effortless. Best metal band in the world. My favorite all-time band. They're amazing. The more you hear, the more astonished you'll become. The talent level is unreal. In addition to Midori and Miyako on guitars, you have Haruna on drums, Miho (or now Fami) on bass, and Asami on vocals. All of them are unbelievable. They're not just power metal, but also thrash, speed, progressive. Love them. I hope you check out some more performances from them. Stand and Deliver is my favorite off of the new album. Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet).
Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing.
In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining.
They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band."

As a hard rock/heavy metal guy myself I would say Lovebites is the one true metal band from Japan that's all talent and killer riffs and no annoying vocals or over the top crap I've noticed with pretty well all the other ones. Except Band-Maid, they kick ass too. Lovebites is #1 in my books.
You've just experienced arguably the best and most talented metal band in the world today. The first track you checked out is speed-power metal and the second is straight thrash (and this was played LIVE). Essentially, the ladies play a seamless blend of speed-power/thrash/prog/neoclassical metal/power ballads. Swan Song with Chopin intro
Just to clarify something MinstrelBlood said in the live chat, in order to see Destrose videos that include both members of Lovebites (drummer Haruna and bassist Miho) AND the member of Nemophila (guitarist Saki), you will have to watch at least two different videos (which you usually do anyway), as Saki's time in Destrose did not overlap with the time period that Huruna and Miho were there. I'm not schooled enough on Destrose to know which songs came from which lineup, but hopefully some others can make suggestions that cover both eras.
Unfortunately there are no recordings of Destroze with Saki now (they have been removed). Saki played briefly in Destrose (2009/10). I would definitely recommend Skykiller. There you can see how much Saki was ahead of other guitarists and only HAL-CA caught up with her in playing speed.
When it comes to Lovebites or Band Maid, always watch the live version. Also, that Dean guitar is a signature model for Miyako (that guitarist, who is main songwriter).
One of the most musically talented metal bands on the planet. Possibly THE most talented when you consider Miyako's piano skills.
Best band on the planet IMO. Elite all-around. Best dual guitarists in 50 yrs of listening to metal.

That is not a Dimebag Dean. Miyako has her own signature guitar with Dean Guitars. And if you look closely, you will see Miyako is around the end of her second trimester of her pregnancy in this concert. I’m in awe of this musician.

Miyako is certainly unique among all musicians I have been aware of in many decades of life as a musician & music enthusiast. She is phenomenal in every way.
Though not Darrell's 'Dimebag signature' model, it is the model he chose to play that later became his 'signature' model, right?
@@dregeye I'm not sure if i missunderstood your question about Dimebag's guitar, but I know for sure that Miyako has her own signature guitar though Dean. As for the time line in Miyako's trimester... I will have to double check when she gave birth. She posted on her social media when the baby was born. She never did get very big during the pregnancy.
She has her own signature guitar from Dean, yes, but apparently there is a lawsuit flying around about it as well as another model she plays that Dean makes. Dean was apparently sued by Gibson for making the Flying V model that is the body for Miyako’s signature guitar, along with them making a model that she plays (not her signature line), based off of the body used in the Gibson Explorer. So her Flying V signature model may be the only one in existence.
@@dregeye Let's not forget that when Darrell was murdered, he was playing Washburn guitars and had a signature model or two through them. Neither company, Dean or Washburn, sells Darrell's signature models anymore. I don't think they have for a long time now.

Well, maybe not a ‘fact’, but it’s the only reasonable explanation. She’s also 4 foot 11. Small but POWERFUL
It's not the water or any thing ingested. It's the culture!! The arts are still taught in the school, talent is recognized early and encouraged. Piano lessons can start as early as 3 yo!!! Miyako, black hair, on guitar started at 3 on the piano. When she was 18 she choose to go into Rock/Music and play the guitar. She is self taught, NO Lessons, and the first riffs she learned and played were from Metallica!! Midori, blond hair, began guitar lessons at 20yo. She also attended a vocational school to learn how to build guitars. One she built is for sale in a Tokyo guitar shop, NOT Cheap.
There is a neighborhood that is just music stores and Miyako made a tour video of the shops. Did some guitar playing, TOO.
Miyako has her own YT channel and there are a number of episodes of her explaining how she has customized them.

As you are discovering Japan, is from a different planet.
A lot has to do with their education system. Compared to the west it may seem terribly draconian but when it comes to music lessons they appear to treat this subject as important as maths and english in the west.
Midori and Miyako are one of the greatest metal guitarists out there today, but there are some more from Japan...Takayoshi Ohmori (BABYMETAL and more), late (RIP) Mikio Fujioka (BABYMETAL and more), Syo (Galneryus), Shiren (Unlucky Morpheus), Jinya (Unlucky Morpheus), SAKI (Mary's Blood)...and there are more! 😉
I think you need to update your copy and paste. Mary's Blood hasn't been a thing for what, a year or two now? Plus, Galneryus' guitarist is named Syu and the guitarist from the Kami Band is Takayoshi Ohmura.

Awesome, you reacted to them. Haruna, the drummer is 4' 9". I rest my case. Her double kick, fills, and cymbal work are always on point... the driving force behind the band. M&M talent speaks for itself, Asami's soaring voice always just above the music where it should be, and new bassist Fami is freaking phenomenal. To me, they are the Big 4, Testament, Maiden, Priest, Helloween, and a sprinkle of Motorhead all in one, yet modernized and play at Lovebites speed. It doesn't get any better than this for me. Not "body building" which is classed by weight, vs height for "fitness" development.
Often the 'uninitiated' (like myself) lump them all together though they are quite different (as I am learning).
Midori is all about fitness, and applies it in LOVEBITES 'demanding' 2-hour performances in platform-heels.

No, Japan is not fuckin' around. You are just scratching the surface. There are dozens of female-led metal and hard rock bands worth checking out. Lovebites and Band-Maid are at the top of the heap, but a lot of others are right on their heels.

I now imagine that you will continually be fascinated by Haruna's transition work, fills, cymbal accents, etc.
As much as I appreciate the guitarists (I play guitar and drums, mostly) it was Haruna's unique (to me) style, her use of precision dbl-kicks as 'fills' while using her extensive array of quick-decay china/splash/crash/bell in melodic ways that got me watching songs repeatedly, over and over.
I am 'working on it' on electronic kit (bedroom) and acoustic kit (front room) daily (interspersed with trying to change my picking technique toward 'palm-muting'. (it's been a challenge!)
'Transitions' which LOVEBITES perform masterfully, I predict will draw your attention consistently.

That Glory To The World music video is one of the worst things you will ever experience from Lovebites. Extremely bad English, the "Twilight"-Guy and no live experience. Don't understand why it gets recommended so often.
