I think the most impressive part of this video is that Miso still remembers his Neopets login info after 20 years
Apparently there were some recent policy changes with the new ownership and it's incredibly easy to get back an old account now with a little basic info, like the email the account was made with and the city/state you were in when you made the account.
I recently emailed support and got my account info back!

Yay new video! The cake was probably dense due to you mixing it for too long when adding the food colouring! When at the last step of making a cake it’s always a good idea to take it off the stand mixer and incorporate it by hand with a spatula to reduce the likelyhood of over mixing. Love your content keep up the awesome work!
That makes a lot of sense. I'll try to keep that in mind for next time! I definitely have a tendency to overmix or overcook. I think it's me trying to be thorough but in the end I just end up messing it up lol
It was such a nostalgia blast to spot this book at the local bookstore. I just wish the recipes were more complex. I know Neopets is a family-friendly brand, but if we’re being realistic, the primary audience who will be buying this cookbook are adults looking to relive some childhood nostalgia. Maybe they could have done a variety of simple and complex recipes to suit both adults and kids.
Agreed! Either that or would having the book to include ways to elevate each recipe with extra/advanced techniques would improve it, this way each recipe could, more or less, have simple and advanced versions
a lot of these recipes are just simple in general, does make elevating them also pretty straight forward (some seasoning here, a more complicated cake base there, noodle making if you're a madman and like breathing clouds of flour, ect)

You can't let tortillas sit around, they start to go hard not long after cooking. Watching you dump the contents into an uncooked tortilla and take a bite sent a shiver down my spine.
What's wrong with uncooked tortillas?
@@glasiseit’s nasty. Corn tortillas are never eaten raw, at least by no Mexican I know. They’re also very brittle at that stage and break easy. You have to eat them fresh off the pan and keep them warm as long as possible
I can see some of these recipes going over pretty well at a party. Take the fish cake to a Halloween party, for example.
Neopets was a huge part of my childhood, this is so important to me, I had no idea that they came out with a cookbook!! Very lucky that my favorite chef on youtube had it featured
The art/theming is adorable on this one! It's always nice to see a tie-in cookbook that recreates actual food from the tie-in. There are too many that just shove referential names on things and call it a day.
Yeah they really did a good job trying to stay true to the in-game food item. I love it when themed cookbooks do that!
I appreciate you showing us your end results and being so real with us even though it may not be exactly like in the book, it feels so relatable, and I always end up enjoying your version anyways!
Neopets! The nostalgia! Your videos are always fun. 😄 P.S. a little tip: If you have to bake two layers and you only have one cake pan (that your batter fits into) you can just bake it in there and slice it with a big knife or dental floss later.

The cook book looks fun but the choices on the flavors in the food is very creative. Maybe the plain taste for the savory food was more for children.
I legit saw this in the local BAM on a stand with a bunch of other themed cookbooks and I was surprised to see it. I remember Neopets being a big thing and I was amazed it's still relevant enough to get an official cookbook.

I do some work with a Lebanese restaurant that serves halloumi. Par for the course on cooking, usually I order mine on the flat top just like shown for the tacos. HOWEVER. You can also pan fry it in a small shimmer of veggie oil for a different end result. Bit crispier, almost like a cheese stick. Regardless of how you cook it, we usually serve it with apricot preserve. That, and a more sweet and sour red cabbage slaw may be what your tacos need.

I really enjoyed the review and how you made some of the recipes and made it look like the photos.
I hope you’ll do the omelettes next someday. They were my favorite part of the games when I was a kid.
I also remember when I turned eleven years old, I asked my mom to make a peas and carrots omelette for my birthday breakfast inspired by the game.

I imagine the cake might have come out too dense cuz you over-mixed the batter. Oftentimes in cake recipes when you mix in the flour you want to do so just until it's incorporated. Surprised the recipe didn't specify that although maybe I shouldn't be considering how over basic the cookbook seems to be 😅. But still it looks great, you did an awesome job.

I may be wrong but It looked like you used precooked shrimp for the shrimp balls and that would be the reason for the texture issue 😊

I'm so glad that you covered this cookbook. I saw it in a bookstore a few weeks ago and it's one of the worst cookbooks I've seen. I get that it's for kids but putting cheese on top of raw asparagus is selling even child chefs short.

That cookbook is fairly new 🤯? Wow, I knew Neopets is still a thing, but I did not expect new media from it like a book to come out lately. Unless the company in charge of Neopets lately got plans to do new things with it and not just leave the website in its early to mid 2000s state.

At one point I started to think that too but I confirmed several times that it was raw. It was just pink because it was Argentinian shrimp which is already pink and not grey when it's raw.

The whole thing reminded me of the Pokemon cookbook in the way it is all looks, a lot of sugar and barely any taste (which for me is not a smart thing even knowing the publishers target kids because they are discovering new tastes) but you did a very good job and you definitely improved a lot since the first Pokémon cookbook ! The one-fish version makes me think of a Mario inspired design 😊

My husband and I regularly man our own tortillas and regardless of what they’re made with (corn or flour), they need to be topped and eaten RIGHT NOW. Or you can place them in a plastic bag and put them in the fridge or freeze them in said bag closed in an airtight pocket. They need to be eaten right away.
I'm bit sad I never got into Neopets when I was a kid. The recipes in the book look so colorful and fun to make.

I think the cake was too dense due to being overmixed when adding the food coloring. But honestly, that happens to me all the time too and i baked for my entire life by now.
One question: Will you do 'second' videos on specific cookbooks? I mean, the Avatar cookbook for example has a relatively tasty recipe for fire flakes. That video would do really good
Ahh that makes sense. Yeah I think I overmixed it since I'm often unsure of how the consistency should be. And yes I try to revisit older books with one-off videos or shorts. Unfortunately I haven't done anything from Avatar yet but I hope to soon!

This cookbook has a lot of appeal with its food design and colors! Pity the recipes weren't a hit. Maybe needed more testing to make them more effective. Was cool to see tho!

I'm just glad that Omelettes got the proper coverage it deserves. Weirdly, the Giant Omelette alone is probably the most memorable thing about the game to me.

To be fair neopets is a british company which isnt exactly known for having the most flavorful dishes. I actually own this book myself bc neopets is an incredibly important media to me so my thoughts are probably quite biased but I personally thought that a lot of the food in it was quite enjoyable (especially the cosmic stars sandwich and hot dog burrito)
While on Amazon a sonic cookbook and a fnaf cook book(pre order) was recommended. I like the aesthetic of retro gaming. The neopets is totally cute and colorful. time to think about if it should be on my list.

The cake looks like it taste good, also i found an invader zim cookbook on amazon.
i find it interesting that they'd choose to adapt iced fish cakes and wocky tacos as those are specifically "gross food" items on site which will make your neopet disgusted if fed to them. they're still eat them, but they certainly won't be happy about it.

The issue with the Wocky Tacos is the slaw; it was just mayo. A coleslaw really needs some vinegar. And the shrimpballs don't have enough egg per shrimp ratio, and they werent pulsed enough (should look like gooey paste). Its not your fault, its the recipe.
I'm gonna guess that you overmixed the cake batter- but you gave it a good try regardless! Next time I'd suggest avoiding the machines and trying to mix everything by hand, I believe you can get a better feel for it that way ;)

I’m probably not as old as everyone else who played NEOPETS but I was born in 2004 but still I remember playing it on a computer as a kid maybe around 4-6 and now I will be 20 2024 OCT 28th so yay me
Neopets is still legit something I dip back into from time to time, just to have a little decompressor. Make it a thing I actively interact with for a month, do some restocking, try to make some money or find a good deal on plushies, then let the guys have a month or three in the hotels on my dime.
Wocky tacos would go great with some Wocky slush

Maybe the reason the shrimp balls turned out mushy is because the shrimp were cooked, not raw? I could definitely see they were pink, and raw shrimp is gray
I bought raw Argentinean Shrimp which is already pink in it's raw state

You basiclaly need to have haloumi while it is hot, otherwise it goes squeeky and not nice. Its a bit of an annoying cheese, but it can taste so good too

I remember back in the day the jerky had the description "a tasty piece of dried...oh....oh dear..."
We had pigs back in the day. You could feed them *anything* except no meat whatsoever. Not just pork, but all meat was off-limits. Obviously because of cannibalism, but also because it could make them sick
