Honestly can’t accept that extinct or alive is cancelled. It’s imperative to bring it back. Someone.

God I wish Extinct or Alivw would come back. That was the best show EVER cuz we ALL want animals we thought were gone forever to be rediscovered. Everytime Forrest found one I think I, myself, was just as excited as him.

Hope the same can be said for the Great Auk one day. Phenomenal bird and possibly still about today on some remote rocky islands

Unfortunately that isn’t going to happen a flightless bird that is living on the coast we would have found it by now living in a dense forest maybe not but breeding out in the open only in areas accessible by foot it’s gone sadly I wish it were still here but it simply isn’t

Pffft, the "Great" Auk, how great could it be if it got dead!?
But in all seriousness I remember the story of the species from the book "Adventures in the Anthropocene". Also quite spooky to think of magnitude of species going extinct by the day. The sixth mass extinction has been my least favorite so far.

There are millions of people who search around the world for rare birds, and there’s just no way that great auks could still be around without one of us finding them. Even if they only lived on some impossibly remote island that we somehow couldn’t find, there’s no way one of them wouldn’t have swam to a more populated area by accident and been seen. Birds regularly do things like that, even flightless birds like penguins have been seen well outside their normal ranges.

The Aleutian Islands are so remote it’s possible for them to live in that area and nobody would know due to the lack of people in the area

I'm struggling to nail down my sources but it would appear that the entire thing is a joke mocking the captain's physical appearance and attitude
