I own a bf xr6t mk2 zf6 in breeze, & done every mod for 600hp, I just turned 21 last week, I get my opens in October. So I can’t even drive it legally yet 🤣 I don’t think I would have got all that done without you & the other people on this platforms videos and knowledge. Appreciate everything you do Sean!
Closed loop boost control - this is where you set a target boost pressure and the ECU will constantly try to hit that boost level. You can adjust multiple parameters around how fast and aggressive the control logic reacts (PID control). Set it up to react too aggressively and you will end up with it hunting, i.e. it will cycle between overshoot, undershoot, overshoot. You can also go too far the other way and have it too slow to react, causing it to overboost. Changing the turbo like you have will 100% change how this should be setup, but it couldn't have been tuned correctly before with the stock flapper anyway. The Base Duty Cycle numbers you changed are the starting point for the boost control. When the ECU decides it should be controlling boost, it will start with whats in that table and use the closed loop logic to adjust that number from there. If The Hoff is still willing to help out, it might be best getring his help with getting this tuned right, PID control is a pain to work with. I can give you a basic run down on what to do if you really want to have a crack
It's great to see tutorials regarding the technicalities of tuning. It'll pay itself off when you tinker with it yourself rather than spending $$$ for an external tuner. It's great to see Aussie products that are looking after Aussie cars
Hi Sean, Andy here, just saying I wish I had your Haltech software for my Audi UR Quattro, that thing flew but overboost made it a bit of a pig to drive wish I still had it, it’s a deposit for a house now. I sold it for just over half you’ve spent doing your Magna. Can’t wait for the Magna episode!! 👍 I’ll get my son Orpheus to explain more about these setting your tuning here!
One of the reasons for issues when you open up the throttle on a manifold injected engine is there is a small pooling of fuel at the bottom of the runner in the head that collects some of the fuel passing through and then will displace some fuel from the pool because it cannot sustain a larger size under vacuum or boost. This means you need slightly more fuel initially than the engine requires to accelerate but then also enriches the fuel mixture in larger than ideal droplets after the initial throttle input. So it can take quite a bit of work to get a nice crisp throttle.
When I had my LS tuned I left it with my tuner for a couple of days so he could do stuff like this. My engine was fairly stock other than exhaust and intake but it held its own against many cars so I was very happy with how he tuned it
You lucky thing Sean (much of it self made luck BTW). What I like about this is it keeps these cars relevant after their birthplace has gone. You have my personal blessings to force induct the Fairmont Ghia and fit this Haltech gizmo as well. Look forward to it.
I haven't a clue what you said but sounds interesting 🤔 obviously this is way above my level of understanding....😂 back in my day my tuner was my screwdriver 🪛....Question what kind of power figures you can expect with a few basic bolt ons on a standard ECU obviously the moon is the limits with an after market by the seems of things.
Also you can save the Tune and work on another that you can play around with and if you ever think you have messed it up you can just revert back. The short term trims you can add back to the base map, once a week/month when ever you want and over time it will need less.
Best thing I put into my RZ supra, it just modernises the car so much with such a relatively small change. The company that tuned the car were hopeless so i ended up learning how to tune it myself. It's so much easier compared to 20 years ago and quite forgiving
I recently bought a ba xr6 ute as a run around, 300,000km and pretty rough cosmetic wise. Even though its a N/A barra with a btr, for what it is its a fun car to drive and is somehow great on fuel. im very tempted to part it out and put the barra, wiring harness and ecu into my NL Fairlane and rebuild the motor to suit a turbo and run a haltech. only problem is my best mate would kill me if i swapped the sohc for a barra 😂
All I know is that if the laptop screen says “DANGER TO MANIFOLD” and then a part of your floor pan falls off and starts throwing sparks everywhere you’re in the shit!
I watch your channel regularly you are obviously tech savvy.. just wondering if this device works on dual fuel FG barra engines keep up the good work 🇦🇺👍
I believe it can be done with an Elite running as a piggyback on top of the standard ECU. I am going to be attempting an install like this into my AU within the next few months.
Im keen mate for your vids on that, ido know lurking on haltech website they offer piggy back type adapters. Im keen on keeping the old girl as original looking as possible.
@motoringbox I've recently bought some goodies for my Xr6 turbo (haltech and bigger fuel pump and injectors) and am wondering how to load a Base tune onto the haltech plug and play so i can drive it to a dyno tuner, thanks
I would recommend regap your plugs to 0.7mm if your running over 300rwkw~ 16psi. Or AGSP22YE07. Pregapped ford iridiums denoted by the 07. The sooting maybe has to do with the plug type if your running other than iridiums an too tall a gap you will get unburnt fuel on idle if the plug is not cold enough? Correct me if im wrong here lol
I'm lucky to have my tuner 20 minutes away.He has dialed in the haltech on cold starts from like 8-10 hits of the key to start first go Everytime.I just need to get some traction on the Dyno now 😂
@@matman429 mine is currently set up that way, I've been playing around with it. The only thing is my car has a 6-speed manual which doesn't have sensors to tell which gear its in, and has to rely on the ECU comparing the engine RPM vs vehicle speed to determine it. There's a bit of a delay in it recognising the gear change, so I may go back to one boost setting for all gears.
@@MotoringBoxTV Yes I'm running a 6speed manual as well. But I'm also running a electronic waste gate.So my boost is dialed.Put that on your wish list for sure. And while your spending dollars grab a S1 sequential shifter.
@@Low760 I can't speak on their behalf, but perhaps their base settings are on the richer side to get the engine running safely? Back in the day they did confirm to me that the base map was only to get the engine running well enough to then get it tuned, rather than a recreation of the stock BA XR6T tune.
I'm leaving the oil pump for now. The saving grace is the Haltech has engine protection features that'll let you know immediately if the oil pressure suddenly disappears.
RE003's - I think they're brilliant. I don't really have anything to compare them to, but they're relatively cheap, quiet enough, grip well and also are surprisingly good in the wet.
I am late hear but a shorter name than ba falcon but not a short as ba is balcon. you know what might be funny (ish) getting a postie bike and kitting it out like the balcon
Definitely not. The Falcon is using an OEM turbo and they will overboost but the trade off is instant power down low and better economy vs a supercharger.
@@Low760 Sorry but you are WRONG, turbo chargers need to spool up before they can provide boost unlike a supercharger which provides boost off idle. So you have never heard of "turbo lag". Sorry too much plumbing on a turbo charger which is not that reliable. Economy is in fact comparable as economy depends purely on the control of the right foot.
Still can't believe you thought you needed a haltec. Please don't ever say you don't have much money when you basically threw it away. More hassle than it's worth at the level of performance you are getting.

Ive been looking at Haltech for mine for a long time, I'd have to manualise the btr however, to my knowledge no support for 4 speed auto.

Ring up and ask, I'm pretty sure Haltechs have been able to control a BTR for many years.

I'm surprised haltech don't supply a good base map for it that does a basic cold start given how much they cost and most barras keep stock cams.
They did, but as soon as you swap injectors things change.

Next upgrade for this should be billet oil pump gears and backing plate, because the oil pump gears are known to fail on the ba-bf

Haltech is American owned now. Just Australia based.
It was Australian owned till 2022.
Would have taken Hoff about 2 hours to fix all this for you.
You can pay any expert to do things faster. But then you don't learn a thing.

A lot of tuning support, heaps of features, easy to work with.
