- This is the original, unedited, subtitled Japanese version of M.D. Geist, in all its low-budget glory, complete with the many animation errors you've probably heard of.
I'm uploading this as it's unlikely the original version will ever see a DVD release, the quality of this anime is a bit laughable now, but the Director's Cut is a great improvement (I just hope you're not watching the English dub with its mismatched voices). Initially I was uploading this without the subs, but I had trouble getting the other parts. Credit has to be given to AceAdvent for ripping this from his Laserdisk.
"Sokihei" is a made-up Japanese word that means "soldier-garbed demon", quite cool and fitting for Geist. - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน

Absolutely. You can't go wrong with old-school anime sound effects. They're just too addictive. If I had my own buisness, I'd use a combination of American and Japanese sounds.
I have its soundtrack on vinyl, it must be my most favoured anime soundtrack of all time.
I like the way Geist screams at 2:24; "BURYAAAAHHHHH!!!"
It's incredible that this was a lowbudget production.

This is actually my first true bloody anime. The music still amazes me today. Havent heard anything close to it hehe.
Hell, I have some M.D. Geist art autographed by its creator, Koichi Ohata, Along with owning the comics, I'm a real fanatic on it.
I just thought of an entire layout of levels if there was an MD Geist video game.
Level 01: Intro Stage (During the Nexrum War)
Level 02: City Ruins
Level 03: Desert Raid
Level 04: Brain Palace
Level 05: City Ruins II
Level 06: Jungle
Level 07: Krauser's Fortress
Level 08: Final Stage
Geist looks like Metal Armored-form of Scorpion :)
@VendavalEste Yep. All those old school sound effects are quite noticable. They've been used in every anime from the 70s and the 80s. And some of them have even been used for certain anime from the early 90s.
Demon in soldier's clothing. That actually makes sense.
There's an odd little jingle you hear at some points too, and yes, this OVA still has a truly great soundtrack, that's only put to better use in the Director's Cut.
I love the music that plays at 7:30. Pretty ominous sounding track. I especially like the part that goes: "Da da da da! Daaaaa..."

Despite how amateurishly directed this original version was, I still like it.
Thnks for the upload. I love this movie in all it's 80s era cheesiness lol. This was prolly the first anime I had ever watched when I was a kid, and it's still badass even now! :-)

@VendavalEste Yeah. Those old school Japanese sound effects are pretty reconizable. Speaking of which, I wonder where I can find audio clips or retro anime sound effects. They may be old school, but they're so addictive.
Damn, that's cool, I wouldn't mind seeing that, and this supposed custom figure (if you're the same person who said they were making one of course).

@inevercamester Sure yu're talking about the right version here? Violence of the Flame appears in the credits in this version.

Interestingly, the Japanese title of this anime is "Sokihei MD Geist". Sokihei literally meaning "Demon Garbed Soldier". But I guess another name for this could have been something like "Akuma Gunjin MD Geist", which could be another way of saying "Demon Soldier MD Geist".

I think I just found it, is it of him holding his polearm and rifle? I actually have a poster I got with the soundtrack of him doing the same pose, I might show you that.
The robot boss fight is one part I liked better in the DC. You still got the same ominous synth music but then it really pumps up once "Violence of the Flame" kicked in. I am still amused by them using the generic stabbing sound effect for Geist punching a metal robot.

I prefer the sound effects in this version over the director's cut. I know it's less realistic sounding but it has a certain charm.
@alHalwima Spoiler: it's called low budget, tons of anime from the 70s to 80s all shared the same sound effects.

I like both versions. One is really moody and the other is explosive. I mean Violence of the Flame is awesome but I don't think it quite fits in tone wise with Geist.

Oh, and since Jason Beck is dead now, I think I know someone who could fill in his shoes as the voice of MD Geist should there ever be a remake or a video game. How about David Hayter, the same guy who voiced Solid Snake?
I actually like the original version much better than those terrible edits Ohata added to the Director's Cut...also I love that friggin robot he fights.
