    By far one of the best Japanese animation movies I have seen, not to mention the second one. For it being around 1986 it was definitely ahead of its time.

    Fond memories of the time when my friends and I were watching this over and over again, trying to find a clue as to who he was really fighting for. Our punchline then became "Do you understand? Me neither."

    I especially like the "heart-beat" sound at the beginning just before Geist wakes up unexpectedly! It really induces that horror-movie sort of sensation!

    I actually wonder if that bullet thing was some undeveloped plot point about the MDSes having excellent regenerative abilities that allow them to hold out against things that'd normally kill a man. I really think there needs to be a game of some sort that is just a crossover of anime's manliest men; Kenshiro, Riki-Oh (and the rest of Tetsuya Saruwatari's creations), Golgo 13, Guts, Jojo and even Geist, but I imagine he'd have to be in his biker clothes with aviator glasses.

    It is hinted at in the series that MDSs can withstand more pain and punishment then the average human being and/or might have superhuman healing abilities like Wolverine (i.e., Geist with a bullet point-blank in his head unaffected by it, Geist being electrocuted by the Final Striker and surviving, Geist being partially on fire but unaffected by it, and my favorite one: Geist surviving a fall countless stories high and walking away with only some upper body damage, and quickly healing from it).

    0:32: I assume by "Christian Era", anno domini is no more.
    3:37: Geist is so tough that a bullet to the forehead is futile against killing him. I assume he is Koichi Ohata's answer to Buronson and Tetsuo Hara's Kenshiro (of Hokuto No Ken/Fist of the North Star fame). I'd pay good money to see them fight in a no-hards-barred, crossover battle.
    7:55-8:08: Apparently, being blind hasn't affected Stevie Wonder's atheltic abilities one bit.

    I felt sorry for the original owner of the armor. He had no spoken dialogue, we never learn his name, and he gets killed off within seconds of his introduction. Due to his lack of skill, he wouldn't have lasted long anyway.

    This version has the great Norio Wakamoto playing Geist and none of the other cuts or sequels do.

  • @VendavalEste

    You've never noticed how jumpy the animation is in this cut? Just look at Krutz's corpse near the end on the final video. In the Director's Cut, they used different cues for music, included a new prologue that also elaborated on a bit more, added in some new (very brief) bits of animation and extended the ending, as well as including a little flashback showing Geist killing things. It also has much more realistic (and in my opinion, BETTER) sound effects.

    Damn right, I can't tell which version I love more, this one in all its 80sness or the Director's Cut in Japanese.

    It just came to mind that Geist looks a lot like Goose from the Galaxy Rangers. because he has the same blond hair and hair style as Goose does! And the crazy thing is that both Galaxy Rangers and MD Geist came out in the same year; 1986! How ironic is that?

    Excuse me sir, but have you arranged an appointment with Dr. Geist?
    Dr. Geist? Oh no! I didn't! There must be some mistake!
    No sir. It says right here that your appointment is with Dr. Geist. He's in his office waiting to see you.
    Oh crap!

  • @VendavalEste
    @VendavalEste  15 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I really like both, but I think the Director's Cut has a lot more kick to its sound effects,and I really like the new Japanese audio track for it.

      I guess I'm the reverse. I LOVE the old SFX but like the U.S. dub for the director's cut especially Geist's voice.

    Believe it or not there is an English Dub for the original version of M.D. Geist released on VHS on 1994 and I own it. It has the same exact voice actors as the Director's Cut, but there are a few differences about the dub. It also has a short preview for the Ground Zero comic.

  • @MDthornton83
    @MDthornton83 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Judging by the way Geist literally sliced off that guy's arms before driving his knife into his head so mercilessly, just imagine what he'd do to Umibozu from City Hunter? Oooh! I have a feeling Geist would fuck him up big time!

  • @MDthornton83
    @MDthornton83 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I also noticed that this is the original 1986 version. Because the Director's Cut version features all the additional scenes that were added to the episode along with more modernized sound effects. Needless to say it included an entirely different Japanese voice cast though the dialogue is the same.
    The 1986 version has none of those, and the sound effects are the traditional old-school sound effects you'd hear from just about any other anime. But they're still spectacular though.

  • @MDthornton83
    @MDthornton83 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess that pretty much means that Geist is immortal. No matter what you do to him, he just won't die. And even if anyone DID manage to kill him, he'd probably just come back like Jason Voorhees does in each and every one of his movies. He truly isn't human. But a man-made devil.

  • @Loader2K1
    @Loader2K1 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    (Continued)
    While I'm not too familar with Riki-Oh, Berserk, and the Jojo series, I'd still like to see that crossover battle. Golgo 13 would probably be sexing up Vaiya somewhere while the other manly men fought each other to the death, though.

    Hilarious outfits. Enjoying this already. I just wish there were a cheesy English dub from Manga Entertainment available for the first episode.

    What are the main differences between the original anime and the director cut?
    Most people say that in the original movie they were a few mistakes. What kind of mistakes?
    I've never recognized them.

    • @MatthewTheWolf2029
      @MatthewTheWolf2029 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mostly animation mistakes. Some of which were corrected in the Director's Cut version. And also, the director's cut version has additional scenes of footage that were not seen in the original.

    there is, and it is one of the absolute worst! I mean I'm talking real early 90s dub, pure dark ages dub! the stuff of legend, the kinda dub you didn't think existed it was so bad. that combined with the already killer 80s vibe of the whole thing.....well you can imagine.....
