Hi Jim, as a Leicester fan all we are hoping for is a system and a plan. Cooper had us 16th which we would take come May yes but we had no set way of playing, the line up changed every week as did Cooper's idea of what he wanted to do. He had a full (and terrible) pre-season with us and in late November he still didn't have this sorted and think that's why Top got rid. The only defence people had of him was 'there are worse teams than you' but after Ipswich's good results and other improvements from the likes of Wolves, that excuse to keep Cooper became so weak and dangerous as banking on the results of rivals is so unsustainable. With Ruud, it'll be tough but as long as we know what we're going to get week in week out, whether that be formation, style, patterns of play then I feel way more confident with him than Cooper who was seemingly making it up as he went along at times.
He confirmed today at the presser that he will look to play 442 out of possesion and a 3 box 3 in possesion. So there are two ways you can achieve that shape. The first is what he did at PSV. One FB tucks in beside the CBs like you say, the other pushes into the winger position with the winger moving in alongside the 10 to make up the "box" with the two deeper lying CM's and the FB, Winger and striker completing the other 3. The other way is what Enzo done last year. One FB tucks in, the other moves in beside a CDM forming the base of the box with two 8's pushing forward and making up the top of it and the ST, and two wingers forming the top 3. We dont really have the perfect personel for either with injuries so it will be interesting how he makes it work but he said it himself, that IS the shape he will go for.

If Ruud deploys him as a willing runner who presses and has load of pace, he’s going to shine.
I think RVN can implement a system and tactical flexibility within a system. Honestly I think we should've appointed him instead of Cooper in the summer. His short stint at united shows that he can make a team more compact and more difficult to break down. At the same time I want to see him really utilize the squad, players like Daka, Mavididi and McAteer who haven't played much this season.
With the current squad, the player who can best do the job of a deep winger on the left wing is Victor Kristiansen. Thomas doesn't give you all that physical display and speed to get up and down.

The spinning top (faes) will shunt to left back as he has great recovery but zero static positional awareness, filling the Doyle role from last year. Winks sole 6, passing through the second line. Bounanotte filling the Simons CAM role plus maybe Ndidi or whoever, Mavadidi hugging the width one side and Fatawu’s replacement, whoever on the other. Vardy and hermansen.
I think El Khannnouss and Buonanotte together works really well, similar to Amorim with 2 10s and a striker. Vardy works best in behind and I think those 2 can pick out Vardy with simple balls in behind
a 433 in a mid block is the best tactic for Leicester. That way the 2 wider CM's can offer protection for the full backs in the channels and give the front 3 a bit more freedom to counter, as most of our wingers aren't defensively good. This is something liverpool have done to protect Trent whos defensive abilities are lacking.
VK is streets ahead of Luke Thomas who simply isn’t a PL player. First game he went for Coadys commitment and leadership alongside our best defender who is Vestergaard. Faes is a bombscare. Okoli looks good. El Khannouss, Buonanotte and Vardy will keep us up.
I think James Justin is unreliable due to him being awful defensively. I've been thinking about it, especially after Jacob Horsfall made a video where he put Kristiansen in a back three. At first, I didn’t like the idea, but I think Kristiansen is better than James Justin defensively. However, his attacking output is really good. I would possibly try Hamza Choudhury there, as he’s very good defensively and even played full-back a bit under Maresca. Also, as someone mentioned in the comments, we can't loan in Ferguson because we already have Butanoate on loan. However, I'm a bit concerned about Butanoate in January, as Brighton, the team that loaned him to us, could cancel the loan if they decide to sell him, especially if they get a good offer. I think we’re clearly missing Fatawu, and maybe we could convince Liverpool to loan us Ben Doak so he can get Premier League experience rather than playing in the Championship. I’m not sure how much can be done in terms of transfers in January due to FFP, so loan moves may be our best option.
FFP and PSR it's a new 3 year period. I expect 2/3 new players to come in. I think Justin has been caught out but it's more a systemic issue where he was always 1v1 with the winger and was always trying to recover from an advanced position. I think Kristiansen works in a back 3 especially if we do play Mavididi as when they played together they always got in each others' way

I agree hamza should be given that role. I do agree with Kristiensen point as well however maybe just play Mavadidi as more as an inside forward if Kristeansen is bombing up that wing so Mavadidi can get into the half spaces more effectively. Why I want Choudhry to be in that back 3. Also would like to see el kanos have a go out wide despite never really playing there. He’s looked quite good at times when he’s drifted out there.
