I got a Volvo 940 for free, just had to pick it up. It did not have a working clutch, but the engine started, I pumped up all the wheels and started the car in first gear (manual transmission), which got it running and drive it home shifting without a clutch. So, how do I open up the casing without breaking it?

You mean get the glass out? There are some plastic tabs, but it was quite tricky, I broke those when I got mine off, not sure how to do it properly.
