Hi I have a Hyundai Sonata, 2011 LE, 4 cylinder, automatic, push button ignition. It only has 37,000 miles on it and the previous owner bought it new. She sold it to me because her two mechanics could not get it to function for her. It would sit for a few days and would not start. They replaced the battery and alternator. That didn't fix it. Right now it will not start or do anything at all, so it actually got worse. The battery is new and checked good (confirmed with part store check and deep charge). The main fuses I can see all look good. Nothing comes on. No exterior or indoor lights. No dash lights or gauges...nothing. Except, the push ignition button will lightly illuminate when I push it. Both key fobs will show a small red light when anything is pushed on them, but nothing happens. The trunk won't open, the alarm won't turn on, no door locks, nothing at all works. It does the same thing when attempting to jump start with 3 different vehicles. It did start occasionally for her with jumper cables and battery charge, but now it is entirely dead and nothing gives it power to crank or start, or any accessories or gauges. It's behaving like it has NO battery at all.
I have not connected a code reader to it, yet.
    Questions:
    1. Anyone have this occur? What fixed it?
    2. Is there a way to test the key fobs to be sure at least one is working?
    3. I know how to get the car in Neutral to push it around, but is there a way to get the steering wheel to turn? I hate push button crank cars!
Maybe someone with helpful answers will read this! Thanks in advance!

Guys, it's the brake switch. Please please please don't spend all that money on something that's 20 dollars max to fix.

My 2 cents... if the above won't work...like in my case where my car didn't even tell me to step on the brake, use the shift lock release. This is located right next to gear lever.use a knife to remove the cover to reveal a the small hole.then from your key fob, pull you key out, insert it into the shift lock release. This disengaged the gear lever.put it in neutral. Step on brake and walla!😉

Allan Nduati Thank you for this information, i tried everything possible. Then I came across your posting and it worked. Luckily I was at home and safe when my car did not want to turn over. Very frustrating experience but thanks to your post its working. Next stop the dealership.

+Raul Villarreal please don't give your money to the scumbags in dealerships.they won't do anything of value..but are too quick to charge you astronomically. just ensure you have something in your car to uncover the shift release and all will be good.

Unfortunately it's not always the break switch. My 2011 2.0t has been also having problems starting when the temp is below 30 degrees. I bypassed the break switch and it still didn't work. My mechanic thought it was the break switch, replaced it and the car didn't start 2 days later. Right now it's in the shop as they attempt to trouble shoot the issue. What they do know is the it's not the break switch which is new, not the alternator, battery either. And with mine, it doesn't seem to be an issue with the gear box. The car always seems to recognize its in gear and the gear box light is always blue. Also my key fob has a new battery in it and the car recognizes the fob. I believe it's could be something with the push button itself, a relay or the starter itself. However I've gotten consistent information that the car needs to not start when they have it and continue until they can hook it up to test where power is and is not going. That's the info I have so far. I'll make sure to report back when I get more answers. Definitely a headache for sure but my mechanics have been great and I haven't had to shell out a bunch of cash for this.

So I've had this problem for a while you just have to change the gear from park to drive and then back to park for a temporary fix! However does anyone know how I can permanently fix this problem?! Is it the inhibitor? And how much does this part go for or parts... Never buying a Korean car again... I bought the sonata right when they changed the body 2011

You have a sexy sonata!!! Very curvy, love this particular model and design with the sporty look and beautiful blue lighting (hehe I have the same exact car and I love it!!!) I think they have made the newer design dull and boring and I wouldnt buy another newer body style sonata.

You don't have to put your foot on the brake while pushing the button. Just push the button for about 10 seconds and the car will start, I do it every now and then. But never had the problem of my car not starting or moving, only a little old engine blown no biggie

Brake switch. Not shift interlock switch. If you don't get a message and can hear a whining noise when pressing start button then starter lever. Common problem on these cars.

    • @apachetucker9202
      @apachetucker9202 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Lewis Orr this sounds like the issue I'm having. No 'press brake' message, just the starter whirring and engine clicks but won't turn over. I need a starter lever?

Check the disconnect from the hybrid battery, that disconnect have a big fuse checked with the multimeter with owms or continuity..... if you don't have any beep or readings that means that your fuse its burn.

Mine is starting to give me an electrical problem with the light system on whole car. Once in a while it we'll just flash on and off real quick, and burned out 2 head lights. If any body find out what's up with the electrical system with these cars please let me know thank you.

Check the factory ground cable. The threads on the frame ground point strip on alot of these and the ground is faulty at that point. I always drill the stripped hole out and tap with a 10mm for a new larger bolt.

I know .. it drained my battery 2 times .. and occasionally will turn off and on the lights ..
You need to replace the turn signal on steering wheel ..
