Opera. The longest art form that involves shattered glass chandeliers.

A** well a** temper tatrums, manic depression, meltdowns, and so forth. When it's the opposite tone, acting as if nothing's wrong in the world.

Thank you for this-I was looking for an accessible way to teach the concept of opera to my students at school. This is great brief lesson for my older kids who will understand what they need to know in a nutshell, with approachable but not inappropriate humor.

I think this is lovely. I can experience the lofty music and stage elsewhere. Just some basics here - intended not to be intimidating. Thank you. Definitely 101 level.

I'm actually pretty interested in Opera, and even live in the greater Dallas metroplex, but this video is very off-putting. Gone is the sublime beauty, and in its place is an apparent desire to mash a rich artform into the headspace of a LOLCats meme. "I Can Has Opera?" No thanks. To whoever decided to brand this way... it was a misstep.

Aaaaaand this is why opera is dying as an art form. There's no willingness to embrace the modern. Wagner's work would have been ridiculed by Handel, who would have been ridiculed by medieval composers, who would have been ridiculed by ancient Greek philosopher musicians.
"Sublime beauty"? Sure, there's plenty of that, but have you even seen an opera buffa? The plots are ridiculous and the characters consistently make fun of one another and themselves. Opera itself is not nearly so self-assuring as perhaps you'd like to believe. What's the point of consuming an artform if you can't also have fun? How are we to expect opera to survive and thrive and grow if we cannot let young people learn about it in a way that is accessible to them?

Thus speaks a troglodyte. Ever watch a Marvel movie? Talk about ridiculous plots, and shallow characters, and the conscious dumbing down of the Wagner Mythos. Opera isn't dying. It's the very culture around us that's dying. You reduce the average IQ by dumbing down education and allowing of mass immigration of non-Europeans, and you end up with a culture akin to "Idiocracy." NOTHING can survive that, but don't blame those of us with brains, verbal and linguistic acuity, and a knowledge of our own European culture, for your faults.

I can see both viewpoints. I live in the DFW metroplex as well and am curious about Opera but have no knowledge of it. This video did not make me want to learn more.
