This is just what I wanted, I’m 59, have appreciated most musical genres and recently developed an interest in opera. I can’t wait to learn and hear more. Thank you!
I have noticed that many opera companies are offerring education on their websites and before performances to help people understand Opera better. If I could ever find an online Opera Appreciation Course, I believe that others beside myself would pay for such a course.
Interesting video Mr. Reveles. I started listening and watching opera when I was fifteen yrs old. I’m 69 now. Needless to say I was hooked. My first opera was Carmen. I’ve graduated to more serious operas like Wagner and baroque opera. I love it all.
Thank you for inspiring me to delve deeper into the opera. your kind rekindled an interest in life. I an so young but I remember I will die, so youth doesnt gift me happiness.
Thank you very much for this video; I have always wanted to learn about Opera and I have certainly learn a lot by just watching this video. I enjoyed each one of the short operas presented. I can't wait to learn more!
Thank you so much Sir for this beautiful video, studying the introduction of opera for my 2nd year exams and i found this video… what a great teacher you are… 🙏🏽
Mr. Reveles: Look at the Broadway musical "Phantom Of The Opera". It starts with a song from "Faust". Not only commercials and movies, but also stage works on occasion.
For the major barrier to opera is the fact the most in a foriegn language. I wish they would translate them into English and then I could tell was the heck is going on.
The words are only one part of the experience. I find that once I understand the story, reading the translations are a distraction from the acting, the scenery, the music, the emotion
I once saw a performance of Tarare with music by Salieri and words by Beaumarchais. Unfortunately, it was in French and there were no subtitles. I discovered that my knowledge of French was less than I thought. I found the experience very bewildering.
Have you never taken a 101 class? First day is what is known as an i-n-t-r-o-d-u-c-t-i-o-n. Diving into the details comes later. Patience, Grasshopper.

Try some of la Boheme, from Puccini! That is my favorite opera. Musetta's waltz is very good.
This video makes me want to learn more about opera and attend a show. Your enthusiasm is infectious.

In some of richard smallwoods gospel songs, theres opera sequences in his choirs. Its so subtle but adds so much power and soul to the vocals.
Thank you for posting this all those years ago. I am eager to learn more about Opera and this helped!

Is it a contemporary way of showing the importance of opera by showing how it is used in ads? 😁
Thank you very much ♥️
😊 Thanx!
For the major barrier to opera is the fact the most in a foriegn language. I wish they would translate them into English and then I could tell was the heck is going on.
Most opera companies in the US have supertitles now, translating everything in real time above the stage. No need to know a foreign language!

You will understand the plot of a good opers without understanding a single word
The music itself and the action onstage tells the story.
will share with my private vocal students
You can become a salesman bro.
Flower duet... Homer Simpson gets hit in the head alot
Yeah!
Maybe returning a few of those books back to the library might help to further spread interest in this wonderful music? just sayin',,,
Haha good one. Maybe he’s in the library?
Don’t you read or collect books? Try it sometime.
❤️❤️❤️🙏🏿
It is unfortunate that the Carmen swallows her final notes on every line rather than finishing each phrase fully;
Mentioning anything and everything but Opera 101 as the title suggests..
The whole video was on opera. Can you name any of the operas that were shown on the video ? Probably not.
Not sure if dumbing down is the way to go. Not to the level of pasta commercial at least. Please
WTH
Too much waffling at the start. Get on with it man! Pointless video.
