I've had several jobs, one of them being mortuary transport. Fortunately in most cases it only requires a couple people to transport (especially when reporting from a residence to transport someone to the mortuary). One of my cases was 800 pounds and it took our entire staff of six just to get him on the gurney and into the van and after arriving at the mortuary, I told the staff I needed more people because of the decedent's size (most of the time we'd drop decedents off after hours so sometimes I didn't have help...yes it's an odd industry). When I saw the staff moving him, I felt that.
Lack of movement, an over-reliance on cars, cheap very low nutrition fast food, stagnant wages and long work hours that keep poorer people stuck on fast food out of convenience. It becomes a feedback loop that moves from generation to generation.

I was a caretaker for my dear husband for 4 years. He weighed about 325 lbs. but was bed bound due to a series of strokes. It was hard work making sure he was always clean and comfortable. He gave up junk food and drank lots of water but he was not able to exercise. It is easy for others to be critical of people in this situation but some of them (like us) are doing the best they can, so please be kind. There is probably an element of mental illness that factors into someone becoming this large and treating that as well as the physical ailment is important.

It was not right that the daughter was used as a caregiver but that family needed help, counseling, social services assistance, etc. If you have no financial help and don’t know what else to do, this is what happens. In the USA we don’t always get what we need because we don’t know who to ask, or what’s available, or the logistics are too difficult (like getting an XL person to a doctor or counselor). And no one is telling you the best way to manage bedpans, urinals, cleaning the patient’s body, what products are best to use…Even as a medical pro with decades of experience there was a lot I had to learn as I went along. So if this woman felt helpless and overwhelmed and used her daughter badly, I understand how that could happen. I don’t condone it, I just see her not knowing what else to do.

I've had several jobs, one of them being mortuary transport. Fortunately in most cases it only requires a couple people to transport (especially when reporting from a residence to transport someone to the mortuary). One of my cases was 800 pounds and it took our entire staff of six just to get him on the gurney and into the van and after arriving at the mortuary, I told the staff I needed more people because of the decedent's size (most of the time we'd drop decedents off after hours so sometimes I didn't have help...yes it's an odd industry).
When I saw the staff moving him, I felt that.
He died because he would not follow the rules. At least his daughter is free now and doesn't have to wipe his azz

Interestingly we had a French foreign exchange student come stay a few weeks one summer and she said that they didn't have any cases of insane Class 4 morbid obesity until they built a few fast food restaurants.

I was a caretaker for my dear husband for 4 years. He weighed about 325 lbs. but was bed bound due to a series of strokes. It was hard work making sure he was always clean and comfortable. He gave up junk food and drank lots of water but he was not able to exercise. It is easy for others to be critical of people in this situation but some of them (like us) are doing the best they can, so please be kind. There is probably an element of mental illness that factors into someone becoming this large and treating that as well as the physical ailment is important.

It was not right that the daughter was used as a caregiver but that family needed help, counseling, social services assistance, etc. If you have no financial help and don’t know what else to do, this is what happens. In the USA we don’t always get what we need because we don’t know who to ask, or what’s available, or the logistics are too difficult (like getting an XL person to a doctor or counselor). And no one is telling you the best way to manage bedpans, urinals, cleaning the patient’s body, what products are best to use…Even as a medical pro with decades of experience there was a lot I had to learn as I went along. So if this woman felt helpless and overwhelmed and used her daughter badly, I understand how that could happen. I don’t condone it, I just see her not knowing what else to do.
I completely agree with you. Mental health issues alone are an extremely difficult cycle to get out of. The woman clearly cared about him and was probably suffering from mental health issues herself.
