By 1963-64 the friendship between Steve McQueen and his racing mentor, Sir John Whitmore, had never been closer. Despite racing contracts with Ford Advanced Vehicles, Alan Mann and Team Lotus, Sir John still found the time to spend days in California with Steve and Bud Ekins, endlessly riding motocross bikes in the mountains while immersing himself in Hollywood life. Steve was planning a full-scale F1 movie entitled "Day of the Champion"; Sir John was captivated by the energy of West Coast and the Hippie movement. In this video Sir John recalls meeting Steve's "paintshop guy", Kenny Howard, and being amazed by his ability to write words backwards...

This guy is amazing. He needs to write a book!!
Happy New Year !!! Looking forward for more history vids!
I believe that one of the reasons Jim Clark and John Surtees don't get any acknowledgment in 'Grand Prix' is that they had signed up to work with McQueen in his F1 movie. Maybe someone can clarify.
Oct 17, 21 the History channel will show “FullyTorqued” a show about the Restoration of Von Dutch’s bus ,recently finished in Phoenix , Az.
niCE Series of videos! What's the soundtrack at the end?
The guys who became "Someone" were all just regular guys to everyone who knew them.
Even McQueen was just another guy on the track.
Did Bud Ekins do the stunt riding in the Great Escape ?
Bud did the famous jump in that movie, but Steve did his fair share of riding as well.
I'm Alone 😍😥
